My understanding was that an early enrollee could count for either class, and was at the discretion of the school. Now if say a majority of the potential fifth years would be not invited back, or if there was other attrition, say two or three, wouldn’t that make a difference?

Yes an EE can count toward last year's class. The issue is not the yearly 25 max but the 85 total player max for scholarships. Currently if we bring everyone back and give ruffer a scholly we are at 88 scholarships. Thats already 3 over the full roster.

realitically the class will add 2-3 more guys. That means that if we take 23 guys that would put us at 91 cholarships, we would need to get rid og 6 people. that is the issue with this class

Also next years class will likely be even tighter

Thanks for clearing that up Jason! Here is a post from another thread which belongs here as well:

Quote:
Kelly can’t publicly talk about the decommitment of Florida offensive tackle Jordan Prestwood, but he was asked generally about how he handles such instances.

“I’ve told our staff unless I see a letter of intent, you need to keep recruiting him,” he said. “There’s so many shifting and moving pieces out there that I’m not tripping over that.”

ISD: ND, BK Ready To Go Written by Christian McCollum Thursday, 14 October 2010 17:57

You know what? One of the strongest impressions I get, and things I like best about BK and his assistants, is how much they care about the young men that play for them. I think this is true of all the young men they recruit, prior to the first offer. The Irish coaching staff probably asks more of its players, and probably provides them with more tools for development, and they base this on an incredibly strong, highly functional relationship with their student athletes.

This is why the statistics on Kelly’s player development are through the roof; also, this is why Kelly expresses the sentiment that recruiting is an ongoing process until the student athlete is enrolled in the university and putting on pads. What (healthy, functional) relationship, where trust building is key, do you know of where one party issues a “my way or the highway” ultimatum, early in the process, before either party can enter into an official agreement? Isn’t the first point of an actual agreement where either party has an obligation to honor on NSD?

I hate to talk about it but I could see the following not being on the scholarship list next year:

Not asked back for a 5th Year
Emeka Nwankwo
Brandon Walker
Mike Ragone
Steve Paskorz

This would leave 14 Seniors (4th and 5th year) on the 2011 team. This is including Ruffer.

Then you would have 22 Juniors (3rd and 4th year) + 28 Sophomores (2nd and 3rd year) for a total of 64. This would allow for 21 kids or 2 more than what is in the current class.

But from what I can see, BK is going after more than 2 more kids. So either players like Matt Romine has said he does not want to return for a 5th or BK is anticipating Floyd and Rudy to jump to the NFL.

If all 3 were to not come back, that would allow for 25 in this class...but obviously I would love it if BK could only take 23.

I love the banter and info this board produces-its the best as far as I'm concerned but I do have a problem with calling these guys out as not offered to return. They are young men who are giving alot and trying to be the best they can be. If it was my son I'd be pissed. Just say they are 4/5 spots coming open-people read this stuff men.

The truth is no one on here really knows for certain what is going on... so it is important to take everything with a grain of salt. While message boards certainly impact kids, in my experience it is more as a general impression of their fan base. People's hypotheses and opinions I don't think have the biggest effect.

I see your point. I was not trying to offend any posters or insult any players.

i agree that Paskorz, Walker, and Nwankwo will not be back. The rest is hypothetical. I believe Kelly would like to take a certian number of players likely around 21-22. but if someone commits that the staff feels they cant turn away, they would figure a way to get them in.

Agreed 100%. Obviously this is hypothetical in every way but if in the next few weeks we were to receive verbals from Christian French, Ishaq Williams, and Wayne Lyons, that would put us right at the 22 player mark for this class. Come national signing day, if Savon Huggins and Miles Shuler were to be a package deal, I find it very hard to believe that BK and company could turn the additional numbers away considering the talent. The tough spot we find ourselves n this year is that we have great talent left on the board late in the process. It's a tough spot but certainly a blessing.

Prestwood is currently at the UF game and their offense is just stinking up the joint.

I honestly don't think the stuff is really that interested in Shuler, of course this is based on 2nd hand info but that my opinion

His facebook status reads "Had a great time at UF!"

Warm weather, free tickets and VIP treatment at a game, tons of hot cheerleaders fighting for your attention...ok, what was I talking about? Seriously, is he going to announce that the visit sucked?

wanted to post this in the lynch file....Randy Moss was raised in Rand, W.Va., and played wide receiver, kicker, punter and defensive back for the DuPont Panthers. After leading the team to back-to-back state titles, Moss signed a letter of intent to play at Notre Dame. He never made it to South Bend, however, as he was arrested for participating in a racially charged fight at school and was sentenced to 30 days in jail. His scholarship was pulled and he instead went to Florida State.

Chad Pennington can asure you of what college he went to considering Randy Moss was the reason Chad was drafted. They were an amazing duo in college.

He also got kicked out of FSU for smoking weed and ended up at Marshall. Moss made a lot of bad decisions, but he is probably the most talented player to ever play the game. Lou Holtz thought so. Aaron Lynch is a good football player, but is no Randy Moss. The comparison isn't really good...

Moss, who played at a school in the same conference as two of my brothers, WAS the freakiest athlete anyone's ever seen [He began the state championship BBall game by getting the opening tip to Jason Williams, who just turned and lofted it to the rim, whereupon Moss, already there, monster-jammed it...the game was over in the first ten seconds]. On Moss' team was a linebacker who DID qualify at ND and started and was quite good---sorry, memory bank is fogged on his name. You CAN go to Dupont and graduate from ND. But Moss couldn't have. He didn't even graduate from Marshall, and to my knowledge had very few credits when he left. It's still a joke in WVA that even Florida State couldn't stomach him.
