I started an account here during the coaching search, but haven't signed on much since. I read posts all the time, and hold back from commenting. I'm an adult like most on here, so getting into a virtual war or words is pointless. After reading all the post since the loss, I've got to say something.

We lost to Michigan and it sucked. We lost to Michigan State, and that fake field goal hurt. We lost to Stanford and the game wasn't even close. We lost to Navy and made the option look epic. We lost to Tulsa on a somber Saturday where football was second to a young mans life.

All of those five losses were bad in some way shape or form. We as Notre Dame fans take wins and losses to heart. It can brighten up our Saturday nights and Sunday mornings. It can also ruin a perfect weekend even though we can't control it. I for one love MY Irish. I live in Alabama, but in the fall my second home is South Bend, IN. I love Notre Dame football, and I believe in Brian Kelly and here is why.

Stop getting sucked into the Lou Holtz media love. Stop thinking that we are better then we are. Stop believing that one single season will fix all of our problems. The sky isn't falling people, put your umbrella's away. Brian Kelly has taken over a team that is a combined 12-12 the last two seasons. We have more faults then positives with this team. Brian Kelly knew that when he took this job. He said all the right things about winning, is because that is what a coach is supposed to do.

Our offensive line is blocking in an entire new scheme. Our offense has been drastically changed, and that is not something that gets perfected over 6 MONTHS! April to October people, that is the time he has had to get this going. Our defense is slow, and he's made that a huge point of interest in his recruiting. Charlie did not target top talent on the defensive side. If you have any doubts, look at our safeties. Motta, Slaughter, McCarthy, and Smith are not Division one starting defensive players. Their is a reason Corwin Brown wanted Smith and Motta at linebacker. Their coverage skills are horrible. Our linebackers, while great in size are not 3-4 linebackers. He has had to shift this D around to try and be competitive. The defensive line will be a HUGE strength next year with the size and speed that will be there. This year, they have been undersized against everyone. Even Tulsa!

We get so excited with these recuriting sites. We think that since Kelly took over two high classes that he is supposed to get us to a BCS bowl in year one. We are who we are people. We are a mediocre football team right now. We are a mediocre program this year. We went out a got a coach that has won where ever he has been. We went out and got a coach that has NEVER had a winning season in his first season at a school. We wanted an experienced Collegiate coach, and we got that. WE as fans asked for Coach Kelly, and after 9 games we have decided that he is a lost cause. Give me a break!

We are not the Notre Dame from the 40's through the early 90's. We are a team that is rebuilding a football program, in the mold of a coach who knows how to rebuild. I trust that coach who was hired in December. I don't trust the fair weathered fans who flock to this site when we lose. I don't trust people who tend to believe they are more qualified to run this program, even though they are probably to out of shape to reach for their laptop without breaking a sweat. My wife is an Auburn grad, and we are watching her number 1 Auburn Tigers take care of business. This time last year Gene Chizik was being questioned, now he is as cool as a cucumber. Urban Meyer has lost 3 games already, and he was our holy grail of choices. He lost Tebow, we lost our own NFL quaterback.

I personally thought Jimmy was a ****y prick of a kid, but his collegiate talent was top notch. He was a great decision maker on the field, and didn't get enough credit for that. In this offense I think he would have excelled. We are starting a first year QB, who had to learn a whole new system. Oh yeah a BCS bowl or bust this year huh guys? The INT by Rees today was not BK's fault. That was a freshman QB, who made a bad decision. It happens with a freshman guys, it happens.

Notre Dame football is still at a low right now, and it's about time people accepted that. Do I think Kelly will build this program up to a high standard, well hell yes I do. National Titles though, that is probably not on the plate anytime soon. For now, we are who we are..........

Very well put! I agree with alot of what you said. The problem with us fans.., me included is that we want to win every game at any price,,, we have a hard time putting things into proper perspective and I for one am guilty at that as well.

Some of us take this too seriously (self included). A good coach doesn't ask a freshman QB to even consider making that throw when he has the best PK sitting waitng to win the game. I think it is kind hearted and practical to make the excuses you have noted for BK but let's not forget that Charlie came in and turned an anemic offense into a jaugernaut in his first season against much tougher competition and with less overall talent. Ty did the same thing. We were all hoping that Kelly would at least get this team to a bowl game which is no longer in the cards. That is his fault. We/he has found ways to keep these games close if not flat out lose them (today). to Kelly's credit I do believe he did have a winning season in his first year at Cincy. This year is now a total write-off and nexy year we will be without the services of Floyd and Rudolph. Kelley's sysyem has done them no favors in rasining their stock. They need to get out while they can.

I sense that you are a bug Steeler fan so at least you can make up for these ****ty Saturdays with a good Sunday. I wish I had your patience and optimism but living in Trojan country out here it is getting old being a bitch to those DB's. Don't give up on us negative Norm's. We need to reset our expectations which sucks.

I'm not preaching to anyone. I'm stating facts about who we are as a football team. It has nothing to do with my amount of posts on this site, or my time on this earth. Anyone with common sense, and ESPN can see what we are.

It's the people that come on here with topics like BK being another Gerry Faust, or how BK has lost us games by being stubborn. He's a football coach at Notre Dame, he isn't dumb. He didn't leave the Big East and turn into a moron.

Look, this decision is inexcusable, there is no way you let a freshmen quarterback, who was playing well, take a chance like that when he had made freshmen mistakes all game long. Ruffer hasn't missed in his career. There would be zero criticism if the field goal is missed, since it was the most intelligent scenario to take, given the situation and the variables at the time. I try to be objective with everything about this team, but I have no idea why the decision was made to go for a touchdown.

That's the problem for me. I really don't see ALOT of talent on this team. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but this "talent" has been losing here for a while.

By not attempting to kick the feild goal with possibly the best kicker in the country in that situation......He may be becoming a moron, I'm sorry.

IrishSteelers that was very well stated, and I agree with most of it. I think its hard for alot of ND fans to have to admit to 'rebuilding.' I'm not sure, no matter how good or bad, that our team has ever been in this state. I believe in Kelly, I believe in our future, I believe in ND! (by the way, i do completely disagree with Kelly's decision to let his freshman QB throw that ball or that he even called the play)

I don't think that was the decision. You could see in BK's eyes what happened. His QB made a decision, that he didn't like. He will not throw his QB under the bus. He has to ride this kid for three more games.

I think alot of ND fan have excepted rebuilding, and make no mistake, I think Kelly is great. He ****ed us over royally with not kicking the field goal though. No win, no bowl, no extra practice that he has been preaching for 3 weeks. All because he didn't kick the ball. With the most consistant and talented player on our team.

Talented enough to beat USC? Not! Talented enough to beat Tulsa? Yes! But a bad play call cost a chance to win, period!

Feel free, if you will, to compile some sort of substantial list of talent we had on the field today. Was it the freshman QB thrown into a difficult situtation, or maybe the back up sophmore TE, or the back up running backs, or the back up reciever, or the continued injuries we continue to endure? There is no excuse for us loosing to Tulsa, MSU, or U of M. There is no excuse for us getting waxed by Navy or Stanford. But a talented team we do not have. But those of us who have followed Kelly ( I live in Michigan) also know that he hasn't been stacked at any school he's been at, but rather gotten most of his teams/players to play above their talent level.

Everyone get's up for ND

Everyone get's up for ND

I think we have better talent than Navy and Tulsa. The difference in these 2 games was coaching and adjustments. Navy just fot their *** handed to them by Duke and I would like to think we have equal to or better talent than Duke. I think I like their head coach better than ours though but Kelly does look nice with his sunny face, perfectly moosed hair and new ND sweatshirt pullover every week. Who is going to yell at him in front of National TV for making the call of a DB?

Kelly's modus operendi is aggressive play calling. If you hate it when it fails (like on the last play) you had better hate it when it works (fake punt end around to another true freshman: Bennett) Rees was looking at Floyd one on one with a 5' 9 corner and I will wager you will see him in that situation make a better throw next time. There is no sure thing in football, but Notre Dame hired an aggressive play caller we all should have understood that. This was not the act of a stupid coach...it may be a play that in hindsight is easy to criticize, and much of that criticism is fair...but BK is a live by the sword/die by the sword guy. We ought not expect different.

I always try to point out the brighter side of things, but today was like a kick in the nuts. I know the sky isn't falling and I didn't expect too much of this year, but I did expect more than a loss to Tulsa. I'm not sure if that was Rees's decision or Kelly's, if it was Kelly's then I'm at a loss for words. I guess I'm just going to hope we learn as much as possible and hold on to most of our recruits for next year. We are a team that is rebuilding and I do see a lot of young talent on the field, Teo, Riddick, Rees, Jackson, Wood, Eiffert, and even Toma looked good today........they will all be back and better next year so just enjoy watching the rest of the season because we're all going to miss football Saturdays when they're gone

Again, I like Kelly and his aggressive style of football, but there is a time and place. You team has just come off of a horrible loss to Navy and you have a chance to win the game and insure a bowl game is not the time to get creative. Win the damn game. Now, by being agressive at the wrong time you have lost to a team that has NEVER beaten a bcs opponent, lost all chance of a bowl game, lost the practice time you have stressed is so important, and put questions of doubt in your kicker for the future. Timing is everything in football, and tonight, Kelly's timing sucked.

Disagree. 3rd and 26. Dayne getting injured. Dropped pass by Eiffert. Missed intercept. 4 guys on friggen crutches walking out of the tunnel at the start of the game. They should have kept them in the stands. Special teams looking like a Polian coached squad. Special teams lost the game for us.

What were we talking about?

And still after all of that, we still had a chance to win with one simple play call. Put the game in the hands of your most consistant player all year. Mr. Ruffer.

No. That was just the most obvious one. How about the punt return for TD. How about 3rd and 26. I posted on game day thread before the play that this was the single most important play of the game. And ND was still winning. They gave up that first down, and we lose later. It was more than one play. I saw a brief clip of Kelly talking about the last call. He said he would do it again. Think about it: ONE on ONE coverage on Floyd by a defender 5'10". If your QB is good enough to play D1 ball, he is good enough to give it a shot.

I'm not ready to toss Kelly. As a matter of fact, I am rooting for him even harder than I have for any coach other than Weis through the tough times. Davies and Ty? Meh. I shouted in public to get rid of them.

Aren't you glad you came back.....lol

Disagree. 3rd and 26. Dayne getting injured. Dropped pass by Eiffert. Missed intercept. 4 guys on friggen crutches walking out of the tunnel at the start of the game. They should have kept them in the stands. Special teams looking like a Polian coached squad. Special teams lost the game for us.

None of that I am denying. Just simply stating that thru all that we still were fortunate enough to have a chance to get a W, and the final offensive play for us is what garunteed a loss. As much as I believe we would have prevailed, the FG never got a chance to be kicked so we will never know if it would have been successful. (I believe it would have)
