Per ESPN, Ian Williams and Carlo Calabrese are getting MRIs today to determine the extent of their injuries. Let's hope this all ends well in time for Tulsa. Just have to make it through to the bye...

Forget Tulsa, I just hope Williams can put on the Gold helmet again this year. His looked like a season-ender. I've got my fingers crossed for these guys, they've been warriors all year and I hope they get the best news today.

Hopefully no serious injuries... But man can it be possible to get more starters hurt?

Damn cut blocking, took out Williams. The sideline reporter said that he had tears streaming from his eyes, I am willing to bet he thought right then that his ND career was over, I sure hope not, but if it is I hope that he recovers quickly and is able to continue his playing career.

I'm starting to wonder if it wouldn't be better if we just dropped Navy from our schedule. It seems like we lose a player to them every year and there's just not that much to gain from beating a service academy, even when they're playing well like Navy is.

funny as they were glorifying "the hill" training in a pre-game bit as a great way to prevent this type of injury

Well, I'll toss this out. Clearly admitting my ignorance, I might say maybe an imbalance with the lifting phase (as has been discussed on this forum) compared to athletes that are being asked to run track meets during the game.

Thinking a crazy solution might be to skip traditional pre-game warmup and have the athletes jog a mile.

I know there is so much more involved, but what the hell... just a discussion point.

Don't think Utah can be beat without Williams. Or without Riddick for that matter. (I'm assuming Floyd will be back for sure by then.) Would be a huge loss for sure.

Anyone have the video of Williams last play? Do we even know if it was a cut block?

I do wonder if Williams was 100% going in. Didn't hear his name nearly as much pre-injury as I did the past few years.

Man I hope these two are going to be ok. We just cannot get a break with all of these injuries. This is the last thing we needed this point in the season. Hope these two are alright because I like them both.

Yes it was a chop block. Also what a dumb statement if he was 100%. Does that minimize the dirty chop block and possible season ending injury? Please don't justify dirty hits.

Navy shouldn't be in the FBS.

They literally have no other alternative to cut/chop blocking as they have weight requirements for the military and are always outsized.

I'm all for tradition, but Navy is far past its time when it comes to college football. I think the safety of the players is far more important.

Show me a team that doesn't cut block. Navy does it more, yes, but its not unbeatable. Moreover, show me a team that doesn't cut tackle, which is in all seriousness just as dangerous.

Kelly used it extensively at Cinci.

Williams deserves better than that. Hopefully ND makes a bowl and he can go out with a win

Alternatively, the NFL and the NCAA could collectively decide on a weight limit for all of their players. There's an emerging body of evidence that shows that being a lineman is seriously bad for one's long term health.

Absolutely agree with this.

Not going to waste a redshirt when we have Cwynar and Stockton to play backup. I think Longo needs a full year with him. He will be a beast, but not this year.

Don't forget Newman...He was a plugger just like Williams. Hopefully he gets some PT and shows that he is a gamer.

While Te'o is getting attention, Ian Williams has been the backbone of our defense, quietly playing the NT position at a tremendously high level. You'll see the results on the field without Mr. Williams, because he plays the most important position on our defense, and he has excelled. Unfortunately, the NT doesn't get a lot of stats or credit, but he is what makes our defense go. I'm honestly quite nervous about his injury. Cwynar has played well, but playing up to level of Ian this year is a whole 'nother story.
