Obviously he won't start...in the first 4 games. JC still makes mistakes like he has this year... then it could happen.

I really hope Jimmy can fix some of the bad habits he has developed or failed to fix from high school. As disappointing as the second half of his season was, the offensive line is largely to blame. He had no running game, no time to throw, and most defenses could get pressure with only 4 or 5 guys, so there were 7 or 6 defenders in pass coverage at all time. I am not very optimistic that the line will improve as long as Weis/Latina are there.

I gotta agree with you here. I like Weis and Latina but-there's some other styles they could incorperate to really hedge off the turnovers, fumbles, and beef up the running game. I'm not hating on JC-but ND is known for being a QB team, leadership, maneuvering, footwork, and always always always being humble with an edge. I see nothing but ego in this kid, he got knocked off his horse last year and got a little better but not enough. DC impressed me from the beginning with demeanor. Either way-09 is going to be very exciting between DC and JC.

The only thing that's gonna challenge JC next year is our O line. We fix that, find some consistent rushing, and Little Montana can succeed with our weapons.

I think that the competition will be a great thing. Look at USC there is competition with that team and they are a very well coached team and they show up on Saturday's. I think Clausen will be our QB next year and I hope Clausen and Crist can teach each other things. About the Syracuse game on the last possesion, Clausen's passes downfield were pefect w/ the exception of 1 and that was because of a Syracuse defender. I agree w/ mooneytostle about the running game this year- WE HAD NONE!! All you whiners about Clausen throwing interceptions, he is human and it will happen. Do you think Crist will go his whole ND career and not thrown an interception?? When the first one happens...I hope people bitch like they bitch when Clausen throw's them. First impressions last forever and it's too bad that people cannot get over about the limo and the fur coat deal....there is much more to worry about.

We have the whole game to worry about. JC is just the frontrunner for all hype it seems...dude has talent...I'm not saying he doesn't. but i'm personally thinking that DC has more to show than people think. Just looking at some of the youtube vids of him. IF NOTHING ELSE-DC is going to give JC a run for his money and nothing but good can come from this. I'm sticking to my guns about DC playing in 09 though.... and yes DC will throw interceptions and yes they'll be morons who will gripe about it. Are you extremely impressed with JC? Or just don't like the comments about him?

Montana?? I have mixed thoughts about him... he's either complacent.... or a sleeper and could explode on the field **IF he's got game. Bro's got pressure from the legacy of daddy...

I like Weis and Latina

Honestly, why is there any reason to "like" Latina? What has the ND offensive line ever shown under him, other than having highly recruited players who play nowhere near their potential. He may or may not ultimately be the problem, but why not try someone new!? He can be unemployed like everyone else in northern Indiana, I will not shed a tear.

he's going into his fourth year w/ND. Look what he did with the Rebels offense. Also, his coaching got Samardzija, walker, and stovall in gear I see the frustration with the idea of trying someone new. Since CW is staying-why not change some other coaching options right? I just don't really see that happening soon...unless one of the coaches decides to quit.

I wouldnt say JC progressed as some said on here. yes he did, but his oline might of well of not shown up for the sc game. They were literally in the backfield before jimmy got the snap. Sure his decisions were bad at times, but he was a sophmore, and running for his life most of the 2nd half of the season.

Latina has to go. There is no reason that with the guys we have on the line we should be that terrible. 3 rushers = a sack...that falls on the line.

Dude... how can you talk about Latina when you look at everything overall? I'm not a superfan of his-but one more year of him and that's it. if he doesn't fix the oline by then-he needs to go. What sucks about this whole thing is that maybe it's the talent...

You aren't watching the same games I am. When teams like Pitt, Syracuse, and even NAVY are dropping 8 guys into coverage and are in Clausen's face every play (rushing 3 DL) you have a problem. Latina may or may not be the problem but his time is done. He hasn't proven jack shit. He took over an OL his first year filled with 4th and 5th year players with a few years of experience. He didn't have to develop anything.

I have been very vocal about my desire to see Latina and Mendoza go. I formulate those opinions based on what I see on the field. Here is a snapshot of what I see waaaaaayyy too many times dating back to last season:

Center - face down on the ground with defenders stepping around, or over, him.
Guards - possibly face down as well, or turned completely around facing Jimmy or only seeing the back of defenders jersey en route to pummeling said QB.
Tackles - turned around facing Jimmy as well, or holding.

I have seen this live and replayed it on TIVO because I was in disbelief it could happen so often. I'm sorry, those dive blocks they try to do so often are coached. I think it is mostly coaching. I think heart plays a part of it too, but it is a little hard to have heart when you get smoked more often than not.

Latina and Mendoza should be let go. The product on the field does not indicate an adequate job by the coaches. If all our guys were 6'1" and 255 then I might cut them some slack, but with the mammoth boys we have, we should be able to move up and down the field at will. Sam Young should be a Jake Long caliber lineman after starting for 3 years. No doubt in my mind he would be All American this year if he had been coached right since he was a Freshman. Nothing against the young man, I think he has not been developed. And Mendoza needs to go because our players all don't look strong enough. And they falter in the second half. Is it all conditioning? No. But again, from what I have seen, my feeling is that he should go too.

Back to the DC thread:

I hope he plays his ass off in the Spring and Summer and pushes Jimmy to new heights. I hope the QB battle is a war and whoever comes out on top is better for it.

That would be the perfect scenario, the 1's need to be pushed to reach their ceiling. If there's no one behind them that can perform the players tend to get to comfortable and complacent and stay where their at instead of improving.

You are right on point on the Sam Young thing. Every game I find myself yelling at him for missing blocks, getting burned, or holding. I always say he is the biggest disappointment in Charlies tenure. It must be the coaching though because he is big and talented and should be putting defenders on thier backs. There is just no fire on the O-line and that is what bothers me and that is certainly coaching.

However this should be about Dane and Jimmy. So my opinion on that is that there should always be compatition but even if Charlie is betting all his money and his job on Jimmy I think it will be fine. Jimmy is a competitor and he makes pretty good decisions given his age and the amount of presure on him. I think if we fix the O-line and the running game Jimmy could prove to be the star we all hope he is.

ND.SB,
Am I extremely impressed w/ Jimmy Clausen?? No, I am not. However, he is better than he was his freshman year. I think that Clausen does need to be pushed, then the fans and the university can see why he was the #1 recruit in 07.

I got a feeling Charlie doesn't want to bet his Coaching Career on Dayne. Just a feeling. But what do I know.

I think we will have a good year next year, but not the year ND deserves. I truly hope clausen has an amazing year next season, but i just dont see that "it" factor that i see in Tebow or McCoy, or Quinn when he was at ND. I doubt Crist will get a shot because it seems like CW has his life savings invested in Clausen most of the time. Should crist get a shot....definately, will he? doubt it.

Agree 1000000% percent. Post of the year! I can't rep you unfortunately, I have to "spread it around" first.

Not sure if this is the post of the year but it is damn close. If they go through with Canning Latina and Mendoza then I'll give it to you.

I still have confidence in JC - but CW needs to structure to QB competition to push Clausen, while enstiling confidence in Crist. The reality of it, its Clausen's job. CW has clearly made a commitment to JC, and even if Crist plays 'lights-out' all spring and summer, and Clausen plays like crap all spring and summer - Clausen is still going to start against Nevada. Now if ND loses to Nevada, you very well could see Crist make an appearance.
