Kelly can’t publicly talk about the decommitment of Florida offensive tackle Jordan Prestwood, but he was asked generally about how he handles such instances.
“I’ve told our staff unless I see a letter of intent, you need to keep recruiting him,” he said. “There’s so many shifting and moving pieces out there that I’m not tripping over that.”
ISD: ND, BK Ready To Go Written by Christian McCollum Thursday, 14 October 2010 17:57
You know what? One of the strongest impressions I get, and things I like best about BK and his assistants, is how much they care about the young men that play for them. I think this is true of all the young men they recruit, prior to the first offer. The Irish coaching staff probably asks more of its players, and probably provides them with more tools for development, and they base this on an incredibly strong, highly functional relationship with their student athletes.
This is why the statistics on Kelly’s player development are through the roof; also, this is why Kelly expresses the sentiment that recruiting is an ongoing process until the student athlete is enrolled in the university and putting on pads. What (healthy, functional) relationship, where trust building is key, do you know of where one party issues a “my way or the highway” ultimatum, early in the process, before either party can enter into an official agreement? Isn’t the first point of an actual agreement where either party has an obligation to honor on NSD?
