Irish headed to Hawaii bowl

SOUTH BEND — Notre Dame’s schizophrenic football season took one last abrupt left turn Sunday. And a balmy one at that.

To Honolulu.

According to a bowl source, the Irish (6-6) accepted a bid Sunday to play in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, Christmas Eve at 8 p.m. EST. ND will take on the host University of Hawaii Warriors (7-6), who concluded their regular-season Saturday night by blowing a 24-10 fourth-quarter lead to Big East champion Cincinnati in an eventual 29-24 collapse.

The game will be televised on ESPN. The Irish began practicing Saturday for their third-ever matchup with Hawaii.

i don't really like this scenario considering how little practice time the team will actually get while they are preparing for finals. A bowl a few days later would have been more ideal.

Also - considering it is now understood that the buyout was a big factor in deciding to keep Weis...i would love to see all of the people going to get a free trip to Hawaii on the University's check

At Hawaii, San Jose State 20 Hawaii 17. There's hope.

I know having to deal with mediocre Notre Dame football AND living in Grand Rapids is a hard pill to swallow, but you have options. Find another team, or do what I did and move.

I think the last time we played Hawaii was in 1997. We won that game 23-22. I'm not sure but I think Powlus was our QB. We only played them twice, I think we won both times.

The reason we win this ball game is because Brian Smith and Michael Floyd will be back. I knew they were our best offensive and defensive players for most of the season, but having to watch the Irish play without them made me realize just how valuable they were to this team. Can't wait to see them back on the field making big plays. Irish WILL win this game and get the bowl curse off our backs!!!!

ND should be able to run the ball as they are bigger...opppps....I forgot.....CW has no clue how to develop a running game.
I hope the Irish win but playing this game on their homefield is a definite disadvantage

I just wanted to say that I'm pretty excited about you guys coming to the Hawaii Bowl. I know you guys were here for the Maui Invitational but hopefully a lot more fans will show up.
