Who's next to commit? How many slots?

I'm under the impression that we haven't offered him yet? I think we get him if the staff wants him.

And just like we should have with Silver Tate. We should offer Martin.

He's been offered, and in the interview I saw - his family is pretty committed to Kentucky. His mom and dad both went there.

Shuler just put us in his top 6 and said that he is very excited about visiting South Bend so I dont understand why some of you are saying he is a long shot. I think Rutgers remains the leader for Shuler and Savon Huggins but we are not a long shot.

As for Ray Drew, according to his facebook and every recruiting agency known, he is wide open with no up-front leader. LSU seems to be where people think hes most interested in, but he has not stated that. If we get him on campus for an OV, we have more than a 1% chance.

Ishaq will be at the game in New York this year and I think we stand very well with him, especially with Penn States problems.

It will be interesting to see what schools like Florida and Stanford do in reguards to Wayne Lyons after his injury. He seems high on Notre Dame and will be back for a visit with his mother.

Christian French will be in South Bend this weekend but Iowa seems to be the team to beat. We need a strong showing against Pittsburgh.

IMHO, the ideal final 4-5 spots would go to:
Ishaq Williams/Ray Drew
Christian French
Wayne Lyons
Savon Huggins
Miles Shuler

A lot of different factors go into setting an OV date. He seems to be very focused on his senior season at the moment. If I'm not mistaken, he has not set any OV dates. He is not just leaving us out of the mix.

We have been saying he's a long shot because no website has heard a peep from him in 5 months. He's just not a vocal recruit. There were rumors that he and Huggins were a package deal to Rutgers. Happy to hear we're in the top 6.

I still believe that he and Savon are Scarlet Knight bound. However, if we can get Savon and Miles on the campus at the same time, anything can happen.

Its funny how before Tuitt, and The Atkinsons committed we had 4-5 slots, yet people still say we have 4-5 slots

I honetsly dont see Shuler anywehere in this class. I also think Drew doesnt fits our system

Outside of Lyons , French or Ishaq, maybe Huggins but its a long shot, and im still hoping Niklas gets in somehow but not likely

Troy Niklas is 6'6'' and 245 pounds.
Ray Drew is 6'5 and 250 pounds.

How does Troy Niklas fiit our system and Ray Drew not? Not being a smart ***. Just wondering why you think Niklas fits and Drew doesnt?

People are worried about our stock of DBs and Safeties, and when you make projections for next year and look at three deep players, those positions have the worst possibilities of being filled with talents that seem [from our distance] to be functional ND players. As to the safety position, when you look at linebacking and what's coming in, I have a crazy thought which in March didn't seem as crazy---Danny Spond was recruited as an "athlete" and I'm pretty sure that safety was mentioned here or there regarding him early on [i.e. it was BOTH Roback and Spond who were occasionally noted as possible safeties]. We know that this guy is a good instinctive defensive player, since Kelly has him in high regard. Why not a big slobberknocker of a safety?? That might ease our deficit in manpower there. You guys know better than I on things like this. Totally nuts? or somewhere on the edge of reality?? If Spond could go there, maybe our recruiting need there wouldn't seem quite as inflexible.

Niklas is being recruited as DE but plays TE and OT so there is more wiggle room with him

Drew is being recruited as OLB and that is one big OLB who will likely get bigger, I have not read anywhere they have talked to him about DE, so unless i'm mistaken he just sounds like a 4-3 DE to me

It would be tough to turn a player like Drew down (read: there's no way we do it) but I agree, d-end is not such a pressing need in this class and that seems like both of their natural positions. OLB does not seem like such a great fit for Drew. (He could be a beast at ILB though...)

Oh i agree, if Drew did commit i am sure the staff will find room but the question is how hard are they recruiting him. That goes for everyone outside of Lyons, IShaq, and French. Those three seem to be who the staff are really pushing for

I just dont see room for him at TE. We have a TE in this class and Welch in last years class. We seem loaded at TE even if Rudolph does leave.

As for the offensive line, we have brought in a solid class this year as well. I understand what you mean about his versatility, I just dont think we need it at the positions he offers.

Ray Drew does seem like a more solid 4-3 DE fit but BK traditionally only goes after recruits that fit his system. He may see something that we dont or may know something we dont. Bringing in ESPNs number 3 overall recruit cant hurt.

Niklas is just a personal favorite who i would love to see end up here but i also dont see it being likely. like i said outside of Lyons, IShaq and French i dont see the staff pressing for anyoen else

Gotcha. My personal favorite that we have yet to lock up is Christian French. He is very raw and his upside is unreal. He is a very good athlete that he could use on the defensive side of the ball. While I would love to see Lyons in a gold helmet next year, I still think he stays in state which would certainly open up a spot for French. I understand he is being recruited for an OLB position but with Rabasa and Clay Burton, we could really explore our options with French. Just my opinion but I am really high on Christian French!

encouraging

encouraging

I just watched the Lemming Report tonight and even though I am on record about the star deal with high school football players it was pretty heady stuff. Notre Dame had 5 guys that seem to be coming to South Bend and many others were a Notre Dame offer. It was good to hear so much Irish play. 'If he wins they will come'.

gut feeling is a name from the past (committed elsewhere) will POP up....

You have no idea how many people you just sent back to the recruting forum archives or the scout prospect page lol. I was going to go, but figured I have NO CLUE who you are talking about so there is no point for me to look.
