Thinking............what's your point and what does that stat have to do with this team!?

Welcome aboard.

The point is that we have a tremendous advantage that no other team has (other than army/navy and soon to be BYU) and we are barely above .500 in a decade.

I like that we make our own schedules. I'd rather climb back to the top against good teams. Proves we're actually legit.

So answer my question, what does that have to do with this team?
New coach, new offense, new defense, not his players and fans who bring up irrelevant bs stats.

No offense bro but i could give a **** at this point about our PAST record. How the hell you people cannot see that this is a transition and 3 out of the last 4 teams we've played are ranked is beyond me. RELAX!!!!

Are you suggesting that we pad our schedule with a bunch of cupcakes just to get our win totals up, rather then scheduling Oklahoma, Texas, and Miami. I was disgusted to see Western Michigan on our schedule. Go Irish!

I don't remember playing Texas, Oklahoma, or even Miami in quite a long time brah.

we are 57-46 in the last 10 seasons.

Think about that.

I get where you are going, and its true that we make our own schedule. BUT, we don't make the schedule in a vacuum. We have to find willing dance partners, and they have to fit in specific slots of the season. And, we have to trod very carefully - 2 or 3 cupcakes for us, and we get accused of having a weak schedule (even compared to the Floridas of the world scheduling AA teams).

I would say, if anything, having to make our own schedule is HARDER - its hardly an advantage.

The schedule is only going to get tougher and the losses are gonna start pilling up on more of a regular basis when Miami and Texas and Oklahoma beat our asses. Once we start playing them we are going to go 3-9 every year. I'm used to it now.

Notre Dame football is dead forever. Not even jesus christ himself could make this team win. Still going to be a fan no matter what, but I can tell you this for sure, WE WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER win or even play for a national championship again as long as I am alive. Mark my words.

Actually I did'nt. they were actually doing things 10 years ago to improve the team. Good management etc etc. We have top 5 to top 15 recruiting classes every single year and we still lose games. Although I did believe my Celtics were dead there for a bit.

Thank You almighty NDOM for your beautiful psychic reading! All so glad that it's not just this team that you pick to lose, but all Notre Dame teams. Sounds more like a Notre Dame hater to me. NO matter what you say!

No. Not a hater, just a realist. Find me a Notre Dame team that actually wins on a regular basis and I will give you some free land.

Even worse than this year is the fact that there is 6 or 7 loseable games on next years schedule. LOL. This is just bad. And it gets worse when Miami, Texas, and Oklahoma get put on the schedule. Can you honestly think we can compete with those guys? I think not. Stupid scheduling if you ask me. Chalk up alot more losses for our Irish in the future.

Speaking of Texas their OOC schedule: Rice, Wyoming, Florida Atlantic, UCLA (all at home)

Nebraska? try: Western Kentucky, Idaho, South Dakota St, Washington

Syracuse plays 2 Div I-AA teams (Colgate, Maine) in back to back weeks

Ohio St? even better: Marshall, Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Miami (all at home)

Most of the big 10 is the same as ohio st, this weekends schedule was terrible (NW vs central mich, mich st vs northern colorado, mich vs bowling green, wisc vs austin peay, iowa vs ball st, penn st vs temple, minnesota vs northern illinois, indiana vs akon who is 0-4)

So a team like Ohio St with their schedule and 8 home games and 4 away games is going to have probably 10 wins every year. I love our play anyone, anywhere, anytime attitude...only problem is the BCS does not reward that nor hurt the teams playing the patsies. I know SOS is in the math equation used, but the end of the day it is all about Ws and Ls (look at Boise and TCU playin 2 games all year and are talked about in title game????)

Again, WE ARE NOT IN A CONFERENCE! All of those teams are in a conference so they get away with loading up there schedule with pasties.

Dude...I'm so on board with sceduling "Pasties"...my wife isn't a fan though.

We all had high hopes for this season, but to a man I bet in the predictions most said we'd lose 4-6 games...think of it as a screwed up mortgage...we front loaded the loses.

...anyway...I'm pissed about losing, but less about this one than the previous 2...because the Cardinal was just a better team yesterday.

...so I gotta ask...when we sucked in the mid 80's, and there wasn't a blog...how'd you guys get through it?

I was just in high school playing ball...so I head hunted all the penn state fans ..hehhehehe

Believing that Notre Dame will never win a game ever again with such certainty is about as "realist" as believing a team that just went 3-8 and the 6-6 will be completely reformed in three games under a new coach and system. Erring on the side of pessimistic realism might be more apt, calling yourself a realist based on the above remarks, I think we can all agree, would be a stretch.

um, if we don't schedule tough games then we will never ever be thought of as a serious contender in the BCS. Because the Irish are not part of a conference, they have to schedule tough games so that they carry the necessary weight to warrant higher rankings in the polls.

or maybe I am just taking crazy pills. Several years ago....Texas sucked....Alabama sucked....Auburn sucked recently....Oregon who? a few years back. Point is that this thread is full of complete and utter nonsense and we are all dumber for wasting our time reading rants.

Compete? Sure, considering Miami could barely compete with OSU. Oklahoma is having trouble beating Air Force and Cincy. And Texas just got embarrassed by a UCLA team that was blown out by Stanford a few weeks before. I don't think the gap is as wide between the elite teams and ND as everybody tries to make it seem. I mean just look at Stanford. They were a door mat for years but you get a capable coach in there who can teach all the facets of the game and then recruits start coming. ND already has good recruiting. They are not that far away.

Almost all MAC schools, and not the fault of the Big Ten schools. A few years ago, the Big Ten and the MAC signed an agreement to play each other. As part of that agreement, the scheduling is done by the Conference offices, NOT the individual schools. The schools have no say in what weekends they play the MAC schools, nor do they have a choice of it being at home or away. That comes from the Conference, just like their conference schedule.

Good post. I agree. We are NOT an elite team by any means and it could be awhile before we get back to that position. But the gap between Notre Dame and Texas, Miami, and Oklahoma is not huge. All teams struggle and go through rebuilding phases.

I did not mean to imply that we should be in a conference. My point is there should be repercussions for the pastie games (i.e. games against Div-1 AA opponents do not count towards the six wins required for a bowl apperance, SOS weighed heavier in the BCS computer equations, and all schools are required to play an OOC game on the road).

I am glad we are not in a conference, and just because teams are does not give them the right to "get away with" playing a team they can put 73 points on. Mike Frank often states how letting teams like Michigan, Michigan St, etc dictate when they can play us hurts our program. We are an independent and scheduling is difficult for us setting up 12 competitive games each year, but we need to throw our weight around a little and set our seasons up for success not early season doubts.

That's what I'm talking about!!! Every game is loseable, that's why we play the
game. To have "0" faith in your team isn't being a realist, its being an ***!!! Especially when your talking about games a year away!!!!! Seems to me your more concerned with being "RIGHT" realist...then a fan. Your fan hood sickens me to death. We all get pissed about losing, but it seems like you bask in it with joy!!!!!!! I'm starting to think God is punishing the rest of us because of your faith alone....lol.....Go Irish!!!
