Watch today's Outside The Lines...
Brown basically defends Reggie Bush in him forfeiting the Heisman. Said it shows the kind of man that Bush really is.
I can't believe my ears....and this coming from an Irish legend......

Is Brown on the Heisman committe or whatever its called that met yesterday? Maybe the deal they have is Bush gives up the Heisman and the committe won't badmouth him.

I don't get it. Are you saying he's defending the *giving back* of the trophy, or defending the *actions* that caused him to want to give it back.

No,he isn't. In fact no Heisman winners are on it. It is a group of lawyers and businessman.
I have a feeling that is the only reason he gave up the Heisman, because they threatened to take it away and make it incredibly public.

Dude Bush was and should still be part of the fraternity of Heisman winners Brown was just standing up for one of the members. So did Desmond Howard. What Bush did was wrong but he should not have lost his Heisman!! He was clearly and easily the best player in the country and that is what the award is for You can mark against me for saying this but Brown is right for defending him

Dude, Bush was ineligible for collegiate play by accepting luxuries.
He should not have even been allowed on a football field, completely nullifying anything he did on the field.
With that said, and his "admission" to doing this, he absolutely should've lost the trophy, no question!

if your talking about the Heisman Committe than yes Brown is on it, but the people that were meeting were the Heisman Trustee's which he is not on.

they are made of i think eight members.

I would "defend" him giving it back too. For the first time ever he showed some contrition and admitted he made mistakes.

Yea, honestly Reggie Bush comes out of all this looking the least bad.

The NCAA is increasingly exposed for what it is: highly exploitative of young men.

The NCAA and USC both look like they turned a blind eye to any shenanigans until they literally had no choice but to act.

The agents and boosters should have known better, and look kind of scummy.

Bush was just a phenomenal athlete who, for whatever reason, wasn't aggressive enough in turning down things that were given to him (keep in mind, this is a poor kid moving into a huge spotlight).

Did you actually listen to, or read his statement?
He took almost ZERO accountability for his actions.
He then went on to blame the media for his problems. "The persistent media speculation regarding allegations to my years at USC has been both painful and distracting."
Give me a f*cking break. Giving back the trophy is a clear admission of guilt.
He cheated. He knows it.And now it is the media's fault for him cheating?
Just another classless asshole, who ESPN is now spinning to make him look like a saint for being "proactive" in returning the trophy.

Desmond brought up great points on how Bush is being demonized for this and taking all the blame, when the adults at USC turned a blind eye. Bush was wrong, there is no doubt there, but his coach and AD should be taking all the fire as well. I do not believe, for one minute, that no one knew this was going on. It's like Barry Bonds saying he wasn't on steroids. No one could prove it at the time, but just because we are the public, doesn't mean we're all stupid. This is a much larger problem than USC alone, and the NCAA needs to get its shit together and start enforcing some standards. It looks like they are trying to right now, but it's a little late, don't you think?

I totally agree with you, but you have to admit that giving back the trophy is what Bush should have done in the first place. He may be doing the right thing for the wrong reasons, but that is still better than doing the wrong thing for the wrong reasons. I think that is important now for the Heisman trust to declare the award vacant so people never forget that Bush cheated.

What do you really want Tim Brown to say? He could criticize Bush but then he'll just get a ton of media attention for it.

Anyway I just got a random actual junk mail the other day for a sports betting site and this manual had Tim Brown on the cover hocking their sports book. Thought that was pretty cheesy.

I'm thinking Brown's point is, Bush is admitting, albeit sideways, he cheated. He gave back the trophy. Enough already. Yeah he played for USC, but we hate USC not the players.

The point was made, that Bush is the only person being held accountable for this crap. You can bet your sweet #*^ the adults knew about it. When the NCAA starts punishing everyone involved (agent, player, university), they may get somewhere. It should cost the coach. He should be suspended from all coaching... HS to Pro, for a determined amount of time. It should cost the university any money they gained while the player was at the institution, and the agent should be suspended by the NFL. That will put a dent in this. Money talks, BS walks, and the NCAA is slinging the crap everywhere.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

I'll tell you who I think looks the worst, Sneaky Pete Carroll.....Don't get me wrong, Bush and his family are scumbags, sorry if that is too harsh for some, but what happened to waiting to earn things in this country instead of being given everything immediately.....but I digress, The Poodle's quote on this situation was a total joke, something about he hope this is a learning experience for all involved, then he lists young players, parents, high school coaches and administrators!! What about YOU PETE, there is absolutely no way he did not know about this while it was happening, then when the poop hits the fan he peaces out...He is a cheating coward.

Has everyone forgotten the sanctions that were levied on USC last month?
The only person who has gotten away scott free from this was Carroll, and whoever funded Bush.
But USC has gotten hit hard, the AD is gone, and Bush has gotten hit hard. And they all deserved it.

The AD and Head Coach are both gone. Outwardly, by their own choice... but I think we can probably read between the lines. His position coach (the one most likely to be aware of what was happening) was not retained. In essence, he was fired. So others are feeling some heat, too.

Even Vince Young defended Reggie Bush. It's just a former player defending another player. This happens often. Look at Portis' comments defending the Jets treatment of that lady reporter. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Couldn't agree more...

Yup...it was monica's fault that dress got stained...(analogy only applies to how politics and the press work....not the deed...(and yes the NCAA is extremely political))

See, I'm tired of people falling for the absolutely stupid misdirection these assholes pull, and their media buds help them perpetrate...Reggie Bush was a kid...yea he knew it was wrong on some level...but when people you respect, all around you are all warped, and you are 20 , your moral/ethical compass might get a little dicked up. As some mentioned..the effing sidelines looked like hollywood and gangsta central in addition to shady agent types...see that shit anywhere else? Geez.

The folks who let the institutional control go all to hell, and fostered that morally/ethically decadent environment, as well as the folks involved in the dealings...they are the assholes here, and while Reggie may not know exactly how to articulate the issue...he knows something isn't right...as do all of us. People have got to start hanging the blame where it belongs...and calling it as it is...

and yes Reggie needed to be punished in some way...I'm not upset about the taking or surrendering of the Heisman...good punishment...I'm looking for NCAA heads to be rolling here too, as well as some law suits and jail time for some adults...NOTHING! Petey bailed and the AD got canned...In my book, thats just the very beginning of what this process should look like...
