Nice addition to the schedule. Now the schedule won't look so weak in November. I assume the game will be played then.

I wonder if there will be an independent trend. I still think the superconferences will be in place by 2015, but teams could be trying to position themselves for making it in these superconferences.

BYU Cougars sign longterm TV deal with ESPN - ESPN

By leaving the Mountain West Conference, BYU was able to negotiate its own broadcast rights for football. BYU announced that the school has an eight-year deal with ESPN to televise the Cougars on one of the network's channels

I didn't think that would happen with the small market. Well done BYU.

On Wednesday, the day after BYU declared its independence, the school unveiled an eight year TV arrangement with the ESPN extended family of networks and a handshake agreement to play a six-game football series with Notre Dame.

ND officials, per their protocol, won’t comment on future series until the ink is dry - and it isn’t. There are no specific dates agreed upon, and in some cases, specific seasons need to be worked through.

Swarbrick did acknowledge that an independent BYU would provide a strong option for future November schedules, when many schools are restricted by conference affiliation. BYU would be college football’s fourth independent, joining Notre Dame, Army and Navy.

“Even prior to this announcement, we were talking to them about doing some games,” Swarbrick said of BYU.

When asked if the Cougars could be the final piece to the 2011 scheduling puzzle, Swarbrick responded, “I don’t have it in front of me.”

In a statement from ESPN, senior vice president Burke Magnus said, “Once BYU decided to chart an independent course for football, we both recognized it is a good opportunity to build and grow our strong 30-year relationship.”

ESPN will receive first selection rights to all BYU home games and any neutral site match-up where BYU is the designated home team.

Details include:

• An annual minimum of three games on ESPN, ESPN on ABC or ESPN2, including telecasts on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

• An annual minimum of one game on ESPNU.

• ESPN3.com, ESPN Mobile TV and ESPN GamePlan will be able to simulcast any ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN on ABC telecast

Thank-you my brotha. I've been looking for a great reason to bring the wife and kiddo up to my old stomping grounds. Now I have an excellent excuse. Maybe it will be late enough to catch the game and one of the two Cottonwood Canyons. Or heck, maybe Snowbasin. Thats my old hill. Powder Mountain at midnight would be sick too. They (my girls) would love the look of the Wasatch Front...
