Knew it wasnt Oregon
Evans position coach was Alford who is considered to be ND's best recruiter. One who relates well to the athletes. He was Evans primary contact not Kelly. Alford was the mentor.
The Position Coach tells the OC who of his players are ready to play.
The Offensive Coordinator picks the personnel he wants to suit the plays he calls. If the OC likes the way the #8 WR runs the pattern HE can plug that player in.
Kelly has overall say and reads out the Depth Chart but it is the product of at least 3 coaches.
It's a motivational tool.
Evans probably has a better grasp of who will return to the team next year and who won't. PT next year wasn't his concern. He wanted the PT - now. Not next month, not next week. Now. He apparently didn't earn it on the practice field and now he's gone.
Joe Montana didn't earn it on the practice field either. It took injuries and lack of execution by others to get his shot. The difference being he stayed to get his shot.
I find it sad when any of them leave ND without a degree. He had a much bigger prize in his grasp. I hope Evan finds his happiness.
Coach's comments sound both rational and high-road to me. I believe that he proves that by having no restrictions on where Evans wants to be released to. I can't imagine a successful coach feeling that it's a good idea to spend a lot of time trying to coax an unhappy player to get happier about staying. It sounds like a large waste of Kelly's time and a risk for both setting bad precedents and drawing out unproductive situations for all concerned. Kelly's remark about making sure that the student has at least claimed to have consulted his parents shows human concern for the kid and a great deal of learned wisdom. I am again a Kelly fan.
His name is K-A-M-A-R-A. Show some respect. Learn the names of those who represent your team.
MIA??? Where have you been Andy? Only two players on offense have STARTED more games than he has - 1 more game.
He's caught 75 passes in his career. He's the 3rd leading Receiver on the team. Not too shabby considering he played behind the Bilitnikoff Award winner last year, probably the Bilitnikoff Award Winner this year, and probably this year's Mackey Award winner. Caught 75 balls while playing with 3 All-American Receiver. Never has ND had so much talent in the receiving corps. He spent a year in Weis's doghouse and had his knee scoped prior to last season.
MIA??? You should read more and post less.

... Evans appeared primed to make a run at playing time during training camp with the receiver rotation open beyond starters Michael Floyd and Theo Riddick. But the sophomore never made a move up while others did as Duval Kamara and TJ Jones separated themselves in the competition for the final starting spot.
The coaching staff moved Evans to the slot, where he was stuck behind Riddick and Roby Toma.
Still, Notre Dame wanted to find six reliable receivers before kickoff against Purdue, meaning even if Evans didn't earn a starting nod there was opportunity for playing time. But when offensive coordinator Charley Molnar said last week that Toma had secured the fifth receiver slot behind Floyd, Riddick, Kamara and Jones, it pushed Evans further to the fringe. ...
Shaquelle Evans, the wide receiver who would have been a sophomore at Notre Dame, intends to transfer to UCLA, according to sources.
Evans, a 6-1, 205-pound speedster originally from Inglewood (Calif.) High, received his release from Notre Dame last week.
We have heard that UCLA has contacted Evans, and that he has indicated to UCLA he wants to transfer to Westwood.
Evans was the #1-ranked wide receiver in the west for 2009. Out of high school he was thought to have a great combination of size and excellent speed.
He first verbally committed to USC, and then decided on Notre Dame.
As a true freshman last season at Notre Dame, he had 7 receptions for 61 yards in limiting action.
Reportedly, a desire to return to the west coast was his primary motivation for leaving Notre Dame.
Am I alone in thinking our receiving corps must be loaded if Shaq Evans can't crack the two deep? However, even the sixth and seventh WR on our roster will have a fair number of balls thrown their way.
Add in attrition for 2011 and Shaq was in a good position to start next year. Kamara is gone and there is a high probability Floyd is too (please NOOO!!!!).
I know my entire quad wanted to transfer freshman year and we are all glad we stuck it out. Had we been five star football studs with half the world knocking on our door a year earlier it is easy to imagine a different outcome. I don't fault Shaq, just wish him well and hope he gets a degree. Not many NFL WRs that were not the #1 or #2 in college. Granted if you don't play you aren't going to impress any scouts either.
Does anyone think this may have been a ploy to motivate Shaq more? I CANNOT imagine Toma being listed above Shaq after last year. I love Toma's work ethic but Shaq has that break away speed we are missing at WR!
Both had 4.45 speed..
i was really bummed to hear about this but not entirely urprised. Wish him the best and i keep hearing UCLA so good luck.
BTW has anyone checked to make sure ShaqEvansisGod did not commit suicide?

That's why you don't make your screen name about an incoming freshman being a deity. Or why you don't make a college football message board screen name about a player in general.
Kelly's praise of Collinsworth and Jackson probably added to self doubts.
