I don't see them winning more than 6 games this year without Kelly and company leading them

Guidugli has eagerly embraced the approach of new coach Butch Jones.

“It’s a different philosophy,” Guidugli said Monday. “It’s more family-oriented instead of a business approach or an NFL approach where you just get in and get out with no real personal relationships.

Butch Jones must be more family-oriented than Octamom.

That family-oriented/business/NFL approach comment was made months ago comparing Kelly to Weis.

After Cinci knocked out 12 wins last year, it may be a bit arrogant to dismiss them in 2010. I think most pundits have them finishing second in the Big East. Not a big jump from 2 to 1. When was the last time we won 12 games?

I'm a little confused as several posters in this thread think that Cincy will fall off a cliff w/o Kelly. They won't go undefeated, but I would hope that Kelly(as he did at CMU and GVS)l built a strong enough foundation so that his successor will also be competing for conference championships in the upcoming years.

Actually Cincinnati will be pretty good. Remember that Kelly taught them how to play. Add to that a very good coach in Butch Jones [Cincy probably won't be able to keep him either] and an major talent at Quarterback in Collaros, and they should compete for the Big East title. Naturally Guidugli wants to beat BK and ND, what kind of competitor would he be if he didn't? Guidugli himself is projected as being the #1 tight end in the Big East [although my brother who played there doesn't believe it]. I wouldn't mind us playing them at the end of the year even though it would mean intra-familial warfare. That would mean that both of us had just had good seasons. As to the outcome, they couldn't stop us, but we'd have some trouble with Collaros too. ND 42. Cincy 28?

I think it's Uconn and Pitt fighting for the top with Cincy bringing up the rear.. Who knows WVU might upset some.

This. Cincinatti will not have a significant drop off in wins. Jones knows what he's doing.

Guidugli can suck it, however. Kyle Rudolph he is not.

Sorry, I think it's Uconn and Pitt fighing for the top with Cincy bringing up the rear.. Who knows WVU might upset some.

Connecticut? They lost a lot on defense and one of their running backs.

So! How many teams have lost players and haven't drop off that much? Uconn is also favor to win the Big East.

Cincy bringing up the rear???

Cincy bringing up the rear???

I think it's Uconn and Pitt fighting for the top with Cincy bringing up the rear.. Who knows WVU might upset some.

Phil Steele thinks it WVU and Pit battling for the top with UC, USF, and CT next in line. Steele notes UC has the best offense in the BE. He doesn't think they'll match the 11 or 12 wins of the past 2 seasons but says, "Butch Jones will still have them a prime contender in the BE and the BE Title will be decide on December 4th." (v. Pit)

... Cincy bringing up the rear ...

Did Syracuse and Louisville opt out of the Big East this year?

In the last 10 years they've won only 22 BE games, 2.2/year. In the last 5 years they've won only 4 BE games, 0.8/year. Louisville over the past 3 years has been outscored 227-140 by BE opponents.

Steele's 2010 Power Poll lists:
32. WVU
40. Pit
42. UC
46. USF
47. CT
64. RU
65. SYR
94. Louisville

There are also teams who've changed coached(very good coaches at that)and haven't faced a major drop off. Look no further than Kyle Wittingham at Utah or Ken Niumatalolo at Navy. Cincy will be a very solid program for years to come as long as Jones doesn't try to change the entire culture of the program ala Rich Rod @ UM.

Jones went 8-5 his first year at CMU. Again, I don't see Cincy repeating 10,11, 12 win season next year.

Cinci bringing up the rear? First of all, they still bring back a lot of talent. 2nd, they bring in a coach who is a lot like Brian Kelly, in fact is a Brian Kelly disciple. 3rd, Brian Kelly's teams have done very well after he has left them.

And 4th, there is a school named Syracuse that is way worse. Also, Louisville sucked last year, fired their coach and won't be as good this year, even with new coach Charlie Strong. South FL self-destructed last year, fired their coach and have major question marks. The jury is still out on Rutgers as well.

I'm in the camp with others that responded who said that Cinci will be a good team next year. Not great, but certainly not a last place team. What the TE said was stupid, but that doesn't mean they'll suck. Eventually, I wouldn't be surprised if they sucked again unless they continue to put more money in the program like they started doing under BK. But next year, with their returning QB and offensive talent and the continuity that Coach Butch brings, they'll be good.

Oh, and UCONN isn't favored to win the Big East next year, it's Pitt. Even the coaches voted Pitt as the favorite.

You forgot Fresno State which is no pushing over! How about OU? What about NC St?

Connecticut does not have four or five stars.

Yet they beat ND didn't they?

Nice understatement as you previously posted they'd be bringing up the BE rear. Their their OOC schedule has them playing Fresno St, Indiana St, NCS, OU, and Miami OH. Fresno and NCS are road games and Steele ranks them around Purdue. ISt AND MOH are the only gimmes in that bunch. But then OU is the only big dog. UC should go 4-1 to start the season.

I think you misunderstood I meant third in the BE. As for Phil Steel, I wouldn't live off what he says. He had ND winning 9 games last year and probably didn't expect OU to lose to BYU either..

A few comments on this thread:
1. All the players at Cinci are BK's players. Will they go 12-0? No, but they will be competitive. They are competing in an improved conference in the Big East. No dominate team but no gimme games for Cinci. 8-4 is where I see them, no better.
2. As for Connecticut, IMO they will knock off Michigan in week one. They have a lot to prove and with Michigan's off the field issues and injuries mounting up, I think they'll look ahead and get bit.
3. For Cinci's organization to throw comments around like that is not very intelligent. The chances of us meeting up in any bowl in the upcoming years is slim. If it ends up to us meeting during the season that prob cant get scheduled till about 2014-16 right? That gives Kelly's Cinci recruits enough time to be gone and Kelly's Irish program to be more than up and running. IMO not good news for Cinci fans or Cinci optimists that think life without BK will be fine well and good!!

Agree.. 8 or 9 wins..

It'll be close.. If Uconn pulls it out than I think Rich is done. Mich AD will go after Les Miles because I don't see Jim Harbaugh leaving Stanford. I read some where Jim wants to try his hand at the NFL.

Rich Rodriguez can keep his job if he loses to Connecticut. It's just unlikely.

With Michigan's absolutely pitiful secondary depth, you can bet they'll let Notre Dame, Michigan State, Iowa, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin and Ohio State put up 30+. Connecticut and Indiana could also potentially put up 30 on the Michigan defense. Bowling Green is also a pass happy team, and they could it, as well.

Dayne Crist, Michael Floyd and Kyle Rudolph? How about Kirk Cousins, Mark Dell, BJ Cunningham and Keith Nichol at Michigan State? Stanzi, McNutt, Johnson-Koulianos and CJ Fiedorowicz for Iowa? Marve and Smith for Purdue? Tolzien, Toon and Gilreath for Wisconsin? Pryor, Posey and Sanzebacher at Ohio State? They will not stop any of those combinations.

They don't have a lot of options. Harbaugh? Maybe Bobby Petrino? Al Golden?

i posted this before, but chuck martin will be a candidate. if RR falters, i will not be looking forward to the off-season. CM was a stud HC in michigan.

for this reason alone i hope UM has a respectable season to avoid our guy leaving.

I believe that Rodriguez will survive the cut this year. A lot of the talk in Michigan [not necessarily in the Press] has been that he has gotten into a tough situation and they [romantically] are waiting for "Pat White" to show up and off the super-speed-blitz offense will go. They also blame the defense more than the offense and that deflects the negativism [slightly] off him. If he DOES get fired, we have the option that they'll look at Butch Jones at Cincy. Believe me, Cincy fans think that Jones is a bit like the second-coming and they are nervous as to how long they'll be able to keep him.

NO!! Chuck Martin is going to replace Kelly when he retires.. You see I have it all plained out. I don't think they'd offer Chuck anyways..

He was 74-7 at Grand Valley after Kelly left. They might not want to risk a hire like that. Martin took over a program that had dominated the previous three years (41-2 in the those three years, with appearances in all three title games and two wins those games). There's still the question of...can he establish his own program? It mgiht be too much of a risk.

Michigan is too small to be a truly elite football team under RR. They are simply not large enough to compete with teams like Florida and Alabama, teams with as much speed but much larger size.

Martin is in his early forties, so that would be a possibility, as Kelly will probably last fifteen or more years if successful. However...the last two times we've hired assistants, we've seriously failed.

Notre Dame fans, many of whom claim this is the year every single year, calling Cinny fans nuts for thinking they can go BACK to the BCS... in the Big East???

ugh.
