Rudolph at Wildcat!?!?!

Wood & Riddick on kickoffs=awesome.

I can't believe Hendrix hasn't made a move for the back up role...I'd like to know what's going on there.

Making practices harder than games is such a key. Gotta love the new coaching so far.

Some more details for people who haven't had a chance to see it:

* Called Wood and Theo 'dynamic' players in the return game.

* Wants more physicality from McDonald, more finesse from Carlo.

* Called Floyd "overhyped". Said "He ran down the field and they threw it up. Didn't run precision routes." BUt also called him the hardest worker he's had in his 20 yrs of coaching. (Which is great to hear b/c there were whispers of him not working hard for the new staff and having a poor attitude. Not true.)

* Sounds like he's very impressed with freshmen Tate Nichols and Christian Lombard (who, btw, verballed so early last year that he was forgetten by many ND fans...he was a HUGE get last year). Said for us to get to know their names.

* His 2 horses are Manti Te'o on defense and Michael Floyd on offense.

* Said when Cave blocks you, you're blocked, but he doesn't always block the right person. Sounds like the mental part isn't all there yet for Braxton.

True, but I've always thought Hendrix was clearly more talented than Montana and Rees that we'd at least hear Kelly have some positives to say about him.

There's still time though.

Yeah, not quite halfway through yet. But it looks like it'll be hard for Hendrix to make up the ground since Kelly mentioned that Rees has shown he can run the offense and is therefore receiving more reps. They have to prepare 2-3 QBs, so I'd expect the staff to focus on getting Rees and Montana better by giving them more reps.

He's had some great things to say about Hendrix and Massa both. But, I have to agree with Terry, let's give him a bit of time. Rees and Montana have been around for several months and Rees has shown lots of physical improvement in that time as well. That makes him stick out right now.

The talk is that lots of guys are getting lots of reps (not just the #1), something that Charlie didn't really do. Maybe the increased speed of the practices allows for more overall reps.

At any rate, Kelly proved at Cincy that he's a master of getting multiple guys ready to go.

Rees enrolled early. Plus he played a spread in highschool. I would very much like to see him in action. While Hendrix operated in a more pro style offense at Moeller

I love Rudolph in the WildCat. Tim Tebow style on 3rd and 3 is a automatic first down.

No Toma? I like to see Toma on KO or PR sometimes..

I like Toma.

But, I think the depth chart is indicative of what this program has been needing. There is less reliance, in many cases, on guys in their first and second year. There are some who can crack the two-deep early on (e.g., Teo, Riddick, T.J., Martin), but we're starting to be able to lean on upperclassmen instead of forcing young guys into position too early. As a result, guys are able to learn the playbook, grow into their bodies, and grow into young men before having to produce on Saturdays. Big time programs often rely on youth, but it does not make up their core.

Thanks to Charlie for recruiting well enough that we can make this transition.

I hope we see Throwdolph in the Wildcat too once in a while - just to keep defenses honest. You can't be one dimensional on those specialty plays.

That's kinda why I'm surprised Kelly didn't mention Goodman in the wildcat too.

Lombard & Nichols were real stud pickups that didn't get the hype. Thanks for the updates NDinLA

Can you imagine Floyd better than he was last year. If the QB can hit him in stride he will have alot of chances to swat some flys and put up 6.
Have you seen the arms on this guy. Sounds like he's Kelly's O man know.

Also on und.com is interviews from position coaches and some players. One thing I thought was interesting that Kelly said was that when he wants to know how the O-line is doing he asks Coach Elston, the D-line coach. This makes sense since his group is the ones competing against the O-line. Then in the interview with Coach Elston they ask him how the O-line is doing. He specifically mentions Zach Martin and says something to the effect that he is one of the better O-lineman he has had to coach against. That says alot especially with Martin having 0 game experience. I was impressed with hearing that the freshmen are really coming along and pushing some upperclassmen for playing time. This is only going to make the team better. It says to the older guys, if you take a break or have to miss some time or are not on top of your game, you may not see the field again.

I am really looking forward to being in ND Stadium on Sept. 4!

It's truly scary for opponents to think what this offense will do if Riddick is able to make a quick transition to receiver.

Why'd he change from #84 to #6 anyway?

I thought I was watching some new freshman, then I found it was Theo!

He's a fan of Mike Miller? I don't know.
