Right, you confused me because you stated that, but then went on to say that Kelly basically will run the offense scared because he doesn't want Crist to get hurt.
Here are the two sentences in context.
Kelly stated this summer he won't call plays being scared. And I'll add to that neither is he going to become suddenly stupid and risk his only QB
Being prudent doesn't make one scared. It's not about testosterone; it's about common sense.
Risk analysis is a technique to identify and assess factors that may jeopardize the success of a project or achieving a goal. This technique also helps to define preventive measures to reduce the probability of these factors from occurring and identify countermeasures to successfully deal with these constraints when they develop to avert possible negative effects on the competitiveness of the company.
Losing Floyd would be severe loss but there's a stable of WRs on the team.
Losing Rudolph would hurt but there's at least 2 TEs with the size, strength, and talent to start.
Losing Allen would hurt the running game but there's a stable of RBs and Riddick could play there is needed.
There's only 4 CBs on the team but you only play 2 at time.
There is NO QB ready to step in and run the offense effectively.
IF Crist goes down on Sept 4th, Dillingham enters the game.
2002 ring any bells? The BC game. Holiday gets his bell rung. ND committed multiple fumbles in the game. Dillingham added 2 ints. ND winds up in the Gator Bowl where Holiday gets injured early and Dillingham again was forced into a game.
An isolated occurence, try 1998, Jarious Jackson gets injured on the last play of the LSU game. ND goes to LA and Eric Chappell and Arnez Battle can't move the Irish in a 10- 0 loss. The Irish go to the Gator Bowl and a still not fully recovered Jackson can't run the option. GT knew it and on option plays keyed on the RB. Jarious was gutty but not effective. He run for a key 4th and one conversion and scored on a short run. He carried 12 times for 12 yds.
In '66 when Hanratty went down against MSU, in The Game of The Century, Coley O'Brien was neither a walkon nor a freshman.
As I noted in another post by the end of Spring Ball in 2011 Kelly will have trained backups familiar with his system and with the head, arm, and feet to do so. He does not have them NOW.
Crist is NOT going to play in a tutu or red jersey, nor out of a pocket 7 yds deep with the 2 TEs and the RB kept in to block (that would only be a result of lousy OLine play). Kelly has a multitude of other offensive weapons without risking the entire season rushing the QB.
