Sports Illustrated "How They'll Finish"

I recently received my copy of the College Football Edition of Sports Illustrated. After reading through practically the whole magazine, I found a article on how one of their writers (Laken Litman) thought the 1A Independents would finish. I looked for Notre Dame immediately and was shocked to see us listed at a jaw-dropping 6-6. Personally, I think that we be AT LEAST 8-4. Oh, almost forgot, view the article here and hit continue story to see his notes on Dayne and the program this year. Post opinions below

EDIT:
I compared the article online to that in the SI and it looks as though they are a spot on match, no differences at all. So with this information out their, please don't ask for the rest of the story anymore. Thanks!

The only thing I could find at your Link about ND was:

While first-year starting quarterback DAYNE CRIST has received the most attention since coach BRIAN KELLY took over at Notre Dame, the Irish are going through a more drastic change on the other side of the ball. The defense is switching from a 4--3 to a 3--4, which will help hide one of the team's vulnerabilities: lack of depth on the defensive line. Kelly's top defensive priority is to stop the run (the Irish were 89th in 2009) because, he says, "I know we can bring pressure from the edge with our athletes."

Was there more?

Front page of the link list predictions for Navy (10-2), ND (6-6) and Army (5-7). I have not been a fan of SI in forever.

Ya, SI doesn't publish whole articles, I know, their cheap. I'll edit my first post and type out the rest of it straight from the magazine later.

6-6 while putting in a new QB, new offense, new defense isn't really a stretch. Kelly himself stated that this year the team hinged on how Crist would handle it all. 8-4 is not far from 6-6. A couple of bad plays, last minute upsets etc. You know, like last year.

Don't type out the whole thing. Just summarize.

At the the SI site they noted opening the PDF, only problem was I couldn't find a link for a PDF. If you found the PDF can you provide a link?

If Crist is heatlhy, this is a double digit win team. IF he's not, 6-6 is wishful thinking.

Too scary and true a thought. Let everyone wonder.

I guess that's why they play the game.

Thats the nations outlook on ND this year. From the outside looking in, we lost our starting qb with three years experiance and the best wr in the country. We have a new coach and a whole new system. It's not that hard to find reasons on why the nation feels the way they do.
I would love to come out and shock the nation anyway. It always feels better to turn heads. We have to be doing something right for Mark May to give us the outlook he gave us.

6-6 isnt that far of a stretch. I mean what makes you think were going to be any better than the last 2 years??? 6-6 is a good assesment. I said 7-5 MAYBE 8-4 if things go well so I'm sticking to it, but 6-6 is VERY possible. Until I see something different, I'm not gonna buy into all this PRESEASON hoopla.

If Kelly didnt think ND could win every single game, they wouldn't play the game.

it means that he wouldn't bother playing this season if he didn't think ND could win every game.

6-6 sounds right, because you know, Brian Kelly doesn't have a history of improving teams or anything.

Eh, we have no right to really rip on anyone's predictions with the play of the team the last few years. Obviously we think that Kelly will turn it around, but given the performance of the players, as well as taking into account the offensive and defensive switch, 6-6 is a conclusion I think can be arrived at reasonably. We are an enigma this year, and at the end of the day, these people aren't really ranking Notre Dame, they are ranking what they think Brian Kelly can achieve at Notre Dame. Some are obviously more confident than others. So I'm not going to get upset or up in arms when someone says ND is going 6-6, and I'm not going to get excited when someone, even Mark May, says ND is going to win 10. I'm going to stay nice and even and judge the product on the field.

i see nothing wrong with the 6-6 predictions and i see nothing wrong with 12-0 predictions...tbh, anything can happen and there are too many unknown variables to discredit ones opinion...

although, if crist gets injured, we are f-d that is one thing i am sure of...

with that said, i am going with 10-2 +/- 1...that is, of course, if we stay healthy.

We could go 6-6, we could go 12-0, we could go 3-9.

That's the beauty of college football.

6-6 is prob. reasonable prediction you can have for a team that went 6-6 two straight years... again, if we are 2-0 after Michigan I'll start buying for this season... no matter, as long as some kind of blocks are noticably laid BK and staff should be on to something legit in a couple years.

Just find a way to beat Purdue and the state of Michigan to start 3-0... don't wilt with the second half of the season, keep the recruiting class together and show legit actual growth and improvement throughout the year...

those are things that we have not seen here in a while... do those... then go from there.

Let 'em rip all they want. I like it right now with people saying they will be 6/6. Yesterday I was reminded of my statement I made last year that they 'were going to shock some people'. They did shock me- with 6/6 . I didnt see it coming and I do not see that happening this year. I just told this guy yes you were right and I was wrong. But my last word to him was the talent is there and this guy wins games. I think they win 9 games.

I'd much rather have all the "informed" prognosticators guess that ND will go 6-6 and off the radar than be in the position we were in 2006 starting the season ranked at #2.

Nothing I'd like better than jumping on some unsuspecting teams at the beginning of the season, than hopefully roll from there.

7-5, 8-4???

I've not seen such unbridled optimism by NDOM since this site opened!

Don't know what kind of kool-aid he's been drinking but transcribing the smoke signals, NDOM is looking for ND to run the table.
