ND vs VTech in the Champs Sports Bowl.

The most frightening thing is the BCS championship game on January 10th. January 10th? Oh right I forgot that Student Athletes are Students first.. No time for a playoff.

I would love that matchup against Virginia Tech, playing Miami in the Champs Sports Bowl would be cool too, but now that we play them in '12 it's not necessary.

wow, VT! That would be a serious offense vs defense kind of game, BK played them in the orange bowl 2 years ago and lost. Somehow i think this will all hinge on the BSU vs VT game in week one.

speaking of VT and BSU it seems that Phil thinks either VT beats BSU then gets upset or vis versa because he has the Blue Carpet Kids playing at home in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl

Well, this is gonna be RichRod's last year so maybe they'll hook him up like they did with Bobby Bowden. Let him play in the Gator Bowl against WVU.

Hate the idea of Playoffs in CFB but the 10th is really late

I completely disagree. As a Minnesota-Duluth alum, I can tell you that it would not have been possible for us to win the D2 national championship without one. In 2008 we went undefeated, yet were only ranked #7 in the country. We went through the playoffs and won the national championship. If it were a bowl system we would never even have a chance.

I thought that the D2 championship was decided on by a mean game of "rock, paper, scissors"?

Tell that to Brian Kelly, who won multiple national championships with Grand Valley State. BTW, we beat them in the playoffs to win the national championship :)

on the perfect season! bet thats some awesome memories

NO!

I graduated in spring 2008. I was the school newspapers sports reporter, focusing on the football team with then head coach Bubba Schweigart (now OC at Southern Illinois). We were decent, good enough to dominate our conference, but essentially just an above average team nationally. When I left, Bubba left and the AD became the head coach again (he was previously UMD's football HC before becoming AD). We immediately the national championship when I left.

Want to know what makes it worse? In high school I was starting varsity CB as a freshman and got a verbal scholarship to UMD. I was diagnosed with epilepsy and had to quit sports. If I would have redshirted I could have been on a NC winning team!

Hold that question until after Sept. 11th. But for now I would say NO .... I'd say DALLAS FOOTBALL CLASSIC (#6 Big 10).

This man is very intelligent...

Things that make cfb great/special that a playoff would kill

1.) the rivalry... cfb has BY FAR the most intense rivalry games... who the fuck cares who wins tOSU/Michigan when both would make a playoff in most years.., same goes for UT/OU and USC/ND and so on...
2.) Meaningful and truely intense reg. season... see above, same logic
3.) The Bowls... not the toilet or lu bonnet bowl... I'm with you on that, cut half the bowls out... but anyone who says they don't care about the Rose, Orange, Sugar and Cotton Bowls can't be that big of a cfb fan... and sorry, both systems can NOT co exist... so that would kill the Rose Bowl andso on
4.) The fans tend to be alums and or students which means you have a TRUE, REAL tie to that school... this one would NOT be affected...
5.) The discussion the polls generate... love it or hate it... it definately is part of the appeal, no matter which side of the arguement you're on.

but let's not forget that expeanded playoffs in CBB, NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL all allow for the possiblity of a team that didn't even come close to winning their own division being crowned champ of the entire sport.... how does that make sense?? Playoffs do not make true Champions... they decide who was hottest during that one month of the playoff after diminishing the importance the reg. season... (I understand the flaws with the BCS also, BELIEVE ME... it needs a LOT of tweaking, but so does a playoff system) why blow up the whole system and destroy at least four of the five things that make this sport great for a system that is just as flawed imo... just my two cents.

I think ND will At least play the Gator Bowl this year.

Don't think that's possible. The Big East and Gator Bowl severed their conference tie-in. ND got consideration under the Big East contract.

The Big East now has an arrangement with Champs and ND can qualify once every 4 years.
