The first and second team offenses are different from the two-deep. I'm guessing Kelly's messing things up to get the opponents confused.

I'm a little dissapionted Duval showed up to practice late. I hope he had a valid excuse...I'm expecting him to have a good year (I hope).

I read somewhere that Duval had paperwork to fill out or something to that effect.

Brian Kelly was impressed with Dayne Crist's handle of the spread. He said he has a good grasp of it.

Daniel Smith and Austin Collinsworth were mentioned as players that impressed him today.

From Dayne himself: "I'm worlds ahead of where I was from a confidence standout from spring to now."

Coach D's Blog

Freebie at ISD

Bryan Driskell

Best practice report I've read. The former coach keyed on the offense doing drills and had some interesting observations. Speed. They play fast thus they the practice fast, and Coach fast.

My read of his comments - there is no #2 QB. Montana has been around longer but ... Hendrix based upon brief comments, based upon review of drills looks most promising.

Sounds like everybody is leaner(Nix didn't get mentioned - Offense only report). Driskell's commented on slimmer guts and flatter stomachs more times than a late night informercial. He added that you can tell much about the players at practices like these but the players look to be great shape. The ball integrity and footwork drills only show so much.

He was late doing the paperwork and has to sit until Monday I believe. Very disappointing, esp considering over 100 players did the paperwork right but a senior on his last stand didn't. Apparently from various reports over the last 2 months he's gotten in great shape and looks great out there. Then he starts the year off like this...

Not surprising considering his track record of getting off to a bad start EVERY. SINGLE. SEASON.

Kelly discusses it in an Irish Eyes video when responding to a question about Duvall the spectator.

It's starts around the 2:20 mark of the 3:08 clip.

Text on Duvall Spectator Q&A

Text on Duvall Spectator Q&A

? Paper pusher: Senior wide receiver Duval Kamara did not participate in Saturday's practice. No, he's not injured, but he does have some homework that needs to be addressed.

"(Kamara) was a spectator (because) he has incomplete paperwork," Kelly said. "The things that we asked them to fill out, he didn't get it all in. So he's going to watch until he gets all of his paperwork, and he can't do that until Monday."

Asked if the paperwork was medical or academic related, Kelly said: "It's a little bit of everything. He seemed to think he had it all figured out and didn't get it all figured out."

Tim Prister provides the text for a couple of the questions that were asked in the previously posted videos including Riddick being gassed, freshman Collinsworth, Jackson, and Smith impressing, and the Rudolph hamstring twinged in the last week of summer workouts.

The NFL is infinitely less exciting than college football.

Every game ends up being 10-7 and the running game is incredibly boring on any team not named the Titans. The typical drive: two yard run up the middle, one yard loss up the middle, incomplete pass, punt. Lather, rinse, repeat, and throw in a long touchdown or two and you have an NFL game.

Thank you, BGIF, for those links. I am impressed with all of these young men. They strike me as clear headed, driven and well spoken. I am encouraged that, should professional football not play out for them or end tragically early for them, their years at Notre Dame will further hone their already obvious skills at reacting under pressure.

Right On, Notre Dame!
