If you read the ESPN article, you'll see how bad they need QBs. But this is like sheltering a pedophile at a daycare in my opinion. I'd take a blue collar walk-on any day of the week over a convict.

I suggest you all read the article on SI.com about Masoli. Not that I am a big fan of his, but certainly it offers an objective side to his story.

i read the jist of it and although i can definitely see that happening because i've seen it happen too, where your just with the people that do wrong but your not the wrong doer. but the thing is, is if he is affiliated with the people that committed the crime, just like if some one commits murder and your next to them, but then lie to police you'll still get in trouble. as much the "bro code" should never be broken, there comes a time when you should just seperate yourself, which he failed to do

When your parents told you to stay clear of hanging out with "those" people, they were right.

If you hang out with druggies, eventually you'll succumb. Legally, financially or habitually it will happen.

I tried reading the article but it was way too long. I agree with military irish and johnny on this.

I was really disappointed to hear about his downturn. I think he is a remarkable athlete and should have been a top 5 heisman finalist this past season. Hopefully he can get it together before it's too late.

ESPN says that he's enrolling at Ole Miss.

That really helps Ole Miss and completely changes their season. I don't like that he's playing on a FBS level, let alone for a decent SEC team, but it will sure help the Rebels.

for some reason I have no slack for this player. I say he has had his chance, give his spot to another more deserving player. someone else is denied a spot on a team because of this yahoo.

Nutt could take a public relations hit by bringing in the troubled player but he also may have improved a team picked to finish near or at the bottom in the Southeastern Conference's Western Division.

NCAA Rules Masoli Ineligible for 2010

NCAA Rules Masoli Ineligible for 2010

Masoli's waiver to play for Ole Miss in 2010 denied - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com

The NCAA has denied Mississippi quarterback Jeremiah Masoli's request for a waiver that would allow him to play immediately, meaning the former Oregon standout won't be eligible until 2011.

Mississippi officials announced Tuesday plans to appeal the ruling, with a response expected in less than one week. ... Mississippi athletic director Pete Boone said the decision was "subjective" and expected a successful appeal.

...

Masoli transferred to Mississippi after being kicked off Oregon's team after two run-ins with police.

He pleaded guilty in a January theft at a fraternity house and was suspended for the entire 2010 season by Oregon coach Chip Kelly. Then in June, he was cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession and dismissed and kicked off the squad.

The senior had already completed his undergraduate degree at Oregon, and enrolled in Mississippi's Parks and Recreation graduate program. The NCAA will sometimes waive a one-year residency requirement for athletes who are transferring, but enrolling in a graduate program not offered at the previous school.

Boone said the NCAA gave two reasons for the denial. First, Masoli would not have been eligible for the upcoming season at Oregon. And because of a "time-frame discrepancy" between Masoli's dismissal from Oregon and his decision to transfer to Mississippi.

Nutt said the NCAA should take into account that Masoli was only kicked off the football team, not the university.

I really hope this stands. It's complete and utter bullshit that he can be suspended by his coach, and just jump to another university. He should have the right to leave, but not jump between schools because he's miffed over his punishment. He deserves to be punished, and Chip Kelly's version of punishment is obviously vastly different than the "win at all costs" asshole down at Ole Miss.

Like a Congressional Ethics Ruling - Amazing

Like a Congressional Ethics Ruling - Amazing

Masoli eligible, can play for Ole Miss immediately - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com

...

Three days ago, the NCAA ruled that the former Oregon quarterback had to sit out a season after enrolling at Mississippi. But the university appealed that decision and announced Friday that the NCAA Division I Subcommittee for Legislative Relief had overturned the first ruling.

...

Masoli played for Oregon the past two seasons, leading the Ducks to the Rose Bowl in 2009. But he was kicked off Oregon's team earlier this summer after two run-ins with police. He pleaded guilty to a second-degree burglary charge and was also cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession.

Masoli had already received an undergraduate degree from Oregon, and decided to transfer to Ole Miss where he entered the Parks and Recreation graduate program. The NCAA will often waive a one-year residency requirement for athletes who enter a graduate program not offered at the previous school, but initially didn't clear Masoli because "the waiver exists to provide relief to student-athletes who transfer for academic reasons to pursue graduate studies, not to avoid disciplinary measures at the previous university."

Obviously, the NCAA subcommittee disagreed, and the Rebels' offense is likely better for it.
