Yet, the USC rivals page has a story that claims in its tease line that the hire was one of many brilliant moves by Kiffin this summer. Yes, they are still in denial in lalatrojanland. Great Entertainment!!

I wonder just how many bridges Lane will burn?

How many are there?

The one he won't burn is the one with an angry mob at both ends. Then he'll do a two and a half reverse (with a half twist, open position) into the river and doggie paddle his ass off downstream, hoping like hell to get snagged on the "NFL Last Chance Pier" before being swept out to sea.

how long can little kiffy stay at USC because he does nothing but screw up and isn't even a good coach. things can only get better, for us.

p.s it wasn't his coaching that almost beat Alabama it was his dad's defense, that is the only reason they did anything last year

So true, without Monte, Lane is nothing.

It's so funny I was lurking around rivals it was probably a week ago. And the guys were questioning exactly what kiffy has done to deserve these head coaching jobs(still waiting on that answer). So a USC fan comes on and states that he led a less talented Vols team and almost upset Bama. And he of course kept defending that, that loss was enough for kiffy.

What i'm getting at is that was good enough for kiffy to get that job and how what a great accomplishment that was. Kinda funny considering usc fans ripped about weis' best game being a loss.

Oh and I love it that they are doing this.

What's equally funny is that Kiffin was like... 6th on their pecking order of coaches? People have this weird perception that he is a good coach when his track record, and the fact that USC didn't even want him to begin with, state completely the opposite.

this is just another reason to drag USC's name thru the mud, way to go Kiffin, keep up the stellar work!

"According to the lawsuit, USC and Kiffin maliciously intended to -- and did -- induce Pola to breach his contract with the Titans. The lawsuit alleges 'USC and Kiffin engaged in improper means in their procedure of the breach and were not legally justified in their actions.’'

"According to the lawsuit, Pola agreed he would “not under any circumstance solicit discussions or entertain employment with any other person or entity during the term without given written permission to do so,’’ under the terms of his contract with the Titans. Pola was not given written consent by the Titans."

"Kiffin and USC’s actions through him were part of a course and pattern of conduct fostered by Kiffin and USC to use improper methods and means to the direct harm and damage of parties to contract, to interfere with an existing contract includes the breach thereof,’’ the lawsuit reads."

The absolute last bridge in the Football world would have been The Raiders under Al Davis. And well.. He has blown that bridge to hell.

From Titans Suing Kiffn, Pola and USC - WeAreSC Forums

Generally - The Law
I apologize if this has been covered already, but generally, to prove tortuous interference, you need to prove the following:

1) the defendant knew of the existence of the contract (and the relevant terms)
2) the defendant desired to induce one of the parties to the contract to break the contract in order to INJURE the other party (i.e., malicious intent)
3) the party breached the contract due to the defendant's inducement
4) injury resulted

The hardest thing to prove is that the defendant's goal was to injure the plaintiff. Just because you caused someone to breach and agreement, and injury resulted, does not mean you win. You need to have malicious intent.

Therefore this will be a tough case to prove. Unless during discovery the titans find a smoking gun (e.g., email from Kiffin saying, "Let's stick it to the Titans, I hate them and Fisher..."), they could lose this on summary judgment. Of course, if the case survives summary judgment (and heads towards trial), the parties will likely settle. USC would be wise to move the venue (if the case was brought in Tenn), because any jury or judge in Tenn will try to stick it to Kiffin. If they don't get the case moved, and it proceeds to trial, Tenn will have the leverage (because they may think they are guaranteed victory if goes to a Tenn jury or judge), so USC could end up paying so it goes away.

Just my 2 cents.

What makes it odd is that Fisher is a USC grad. Some SC fans are now saying he will never coach at SC ever. SC against SC implosion. But we don't even know if it was Fisher's call or the organization's call. And I'm too lazy to read any more about this...
