Coming to Camp at ND on Saturday

Recruiting heavily by Tony Alford (always a good sign when Tony's on the case)

Offers: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and USC

Auburn, Florida State, Miami and Ohio State showing interest.

He's a big strong back. Let's hope we get that good first impression during camp

Aldridge was a big disappointment in my eyes. I was actually part of that pink shirt crowd (2005?) that made him do pushups during his visit at the USC game. We also had some 300lb'er doing pushups. More like squats for that guy. I see the similarities though.

would love to have this kid. just hope he's working on the burst of speed and quickness side because he knows how to use blocks good just that first burst doesn't seem to be there.

Aldridge was a monster but he was never the same after he tore up his knee and while many can get back to where they were before not all due and it's not from lack of trying (effort) or anything the Doc that did the surgery could do as sometimes it just doesn't work out as it's the odds of happening to some.

That said Jones is a stud that I rate very highly of and he IMO is even that much better than Aldridge was pre injury. He's a 5 star lock and I hope I'm wrong but a Gator lock as well.

People will suggest moving him off of the RB back position as he's already 6'3 225 and still growing but it's his natural RB instincts along with his size that makes him special.

Very impressive offer list. I notice that he can get his shoulders down when he needs to put runs a little too straight up. He certainly isn't a burner, but then he is fast enough, tough enough and big enough that he looks like a man among boys on the vids. He would make a great combination along with Hayes or Higgins in the 2011 class.

Couple things here:

1. Couple different sites reported that ND really impressed Jones on his visit to camp last month. apparently he is wide open, but he really likes ND, as well as FL, FSU and especially Georgia.

2. He's at Friday Night Lights at FL right now. Bigcountypreps.com is reporting that he grew up a Miami fan and likes to line up out of the I formation, which they believe knocks FL out of it. By deductive reasoning, that would knock ND out of it, but Jones knew Kelly ran the spread but he still paid his way to ND to camp anyways. So I'm not sure I'm buying that argument. (But I wouldn't mind if he spurned FL of course.) And when asked if stud RB James Wilder were to commit to FL if that would sway him, he said that those 2 in the backfield would be a huge problem for other schools (he's right...that'd be scary).

At least others think we're in it for him...he'll be a top recruit in 2012.

EDIT: Chad Simmons tweeted that Matt Jones told him that Georgia was his true leader after a visit there this week...

I believe it will be tough to pull him away from the southeast area in general. Offer list is amazing and likes smashmouth football as you can see from his running style. Spread offense doesnt really fit that bill. We havent had a real good power back in quite some time.

Maybe it's the dreads but he kind of reminds me of Steven Jackson, similar size too.

Roughly 350 days until the next NSD?

Alford on the case?

A winning ND season?

A lot can change.
