Man GoIrish this just continues to drag on with Kovy... Supposedly he's close to a decision... yet again. You got your Kovy jersey bought.... :gbanana:

It has really crossed over in to the realm of the absurd. I know it is mostly the lawyers and agents that are screwing up the process, but at some point, you have to hold the player culpable. LeBron really damaged his legacy and I think Kovy is doing the same thing. All he did was heap a ton of pressure on himself for the upcoming season. If he doesn't manage to maintain at least a point per game, the doubters will be out if full force. All the same people clamoring for him now will be booing him and saying how they knew it was a bad deal all along.

In answer to your question, no I have not bought a Kovy jersey. As a rule, I don't buy jerseys with players names because of how they come and go. Just me personally, but I don't like walking around Staples Center and seeing Jason Allison jerseys and Ziggy Palffy jerseys or Rob *cough* Blake jerseys.

Lol I hear ya on the jersey thing. I'll probably buy a Mike Richards jersey when his NMC kicks in.

He's really screwing the Kings as well as a bunch of other teams. The Kings probably could have made a few moves already and had there teams set. I really don't want Kovy to go to LA cause it increases LA's chance of getting Gagne instead of *sighs* Tampa Bay .

Kovy still believed to be going to the Kings? Haven't heard too much out of his camp as to where he's going.

Would any LA/Philly fan like Mark Savard instead?

Yeah they still think he's going to LA.

No the flyers are stacked at center and don't need another one. Plus I'm not a big Marc Savard fan

Gotta agree on Savard as well. If if the Kings weren't pretty well set at center, I am not a big Savard fan. Plus, I doubt he would be content centering the Kings 3rd or 4th line.

Plus his game 1 celebration vs the flyers last year was about the gayest celebration I've ever seen from a hockey player.

I can top that: There is a lady that sits just below my seats and she often wears a Stu Grimson jersey, which in and of itself isn't too troubling. However, it is one of those lame dual team sewn together jerseys - one half is a Kings jersey and one half is a Ducks jersey. Everytime I see her wear it, I want to throw something at her. I like the Grim Reaper too, but not during his Quack days! UGH!!!

apparently its Kovy back to NJ - Done deal. Unless this is yet another negotiating ploy.

Coveted Ilya Kovalchuk agrees to return to New Jersey Devils - ESPN New York

Yeah, I just saw that. I am relieved because I didn't want him in the first place, but I am now a little bummed because I was getting used to the idea.

However, this scenario of staying with NJ is the most intriguing because many, many dominoes will start to fall now. NJ has serious cap issues. I would love to see the Kings do a trade for Parise. Looks like the Gagne thing might actually pan out now. Who knows. The next week or so will start to get very interesting.

God I hope this is true.

Apparently Jay Grossman, Kovy's agent, Twittered-tweeted-twatted (whatever its called) that he is staying in NJ. Rumor has it as a 7 year 60million offer. A little high for what I think the Kings would comfortably spend.

You should go to the LA Kings Insider blog and see all the so called LA "fans" who are panicking and saying they are jumping ship. It is too funny!

LA Kings Insider

All these bastard fair weather LA fans griping about how the organization let them down for not signing Kovy and how they aren't going to renew their season tickets and blah, blah, blah.

Good riddance to them. We don't need fans like that. They are the same ones that arrive late, leave early, and they don't cheer or yell the whole game. I can't wait to see what Staples will be like on October 30th when NJ comes to town. Should be fun!

I will be pissed if we lose Quick. He is a great player though. I think your goaltending situation will be helped by him if that is true. Williams is as injury prone as Gagne without the upside.

Did you see the terms of Kovy's contract? $100 mil for 17 years?!? Yikes!

I saw frickin outrageous. I'm not sure it'll happen though cause hartnell has a no trade and he really likes it in Philly so well see

Yeah, I really don't think the Kings would move Quick either. I know Bernier is supposed to be the savior between the pipes, but I think he needs to experience a full season as a #2. The Kings haven't had two solid goalies in a long, long time. I am hoping for a nice season of not worrying about goaltending. I would like to see Quick get about 50 to 60 games and Bernier get about 20 to 30. I think that would be a nice split.

The flyers haven't had A solid goalie in a long time.

And to your point about Quick. If the kings are positive Bernier is there guy this would be the best time to move Quick after the year he had last year.

Very true. I can't argue with that. However, we wouldn't have anyone to backup Bernier. I think it would be very risky to roll out a rookie goalie with no viable veteran to help him out. Could crush his confidence and ruin a young goaltender. The Kings start off with a pretty tough schedule in the month of October. I think you would need a guy like Quick to start the season and get off on the right foot before you throw a guy in that has a grand total of 5 or 6 NHL games.

EDIT: I do feel your pain about the goaltending situation. I remember a couple years ago when we had like 9 different goalies play in about a season and a half. We had the likes of Jason LaBarbera, JS Aubin, Fukufuji, and a cavalcade of other also-rans. You would love Quick. He is a true professional and a team player. Not a great GAA, but he wins games - period.

I hear ya man goalies are tough to judge. Look at a guy like Carey Price. He started a couple years a go right when he got to the league and took montreal to the playoffs and everyone thought he was gonna be all world. Now look at him. He's a mess

Yeah goalies are tough - look at a guy like Tuukka Rask. It looks like he's going to be a top netminder for years to come - but being a Bruins fan I need to stay reserved for a couple of past botches in Andrew Raycroft, Blaine Lacher, Hannu Toivonen. It looks more as if a goalie survives and sustains for 2 full seasons then they're past the point of absolutely shitting the bed.

PS - Quick is a good goalie and a good guy - from Connecticut and was roommates with my best friend at UMass.

Carey Price is a great example. Or Steve Mason in Columbus. He was touted as the next big thing his rookie year and then this past season, you hear nothing about him. I would also look for a sophomore slump from Jimmy Howard this coming season.

Quick was older, had played college hockey and then in the minors, so he had some games under his belt in pressure situations. Bernier did well for Manchester this past season, but I am not sure if he is ready yet to lead the big club. We'll see when he gets 20 games in or so. His two road starts this past season were Nashville and Dallas. Let's see how he does in some tough barns like Vancouver or Detroit and then put him in some back to back situations as well.

Walker and a 4th rounder? They didn't even throw in the ubiquitous bag of pucks.

Plus Walker makes $1.7 million. There are times this organization makes me shake my head. 2 wins from the stanley cup and all of this turnover. :whoknows:
