don't have the video but I'm sure it'll be up here soon by one of the other baseball fans...

two outs, top nine, perfect game (second in one week) one out away... ground ball to the firstbasemen, the soon to be glorified pitcher covers perfect... OUT AT FIRST.... CLEARLY... until Jim Joyce the firstbase ump called him,... safe.....

Good luck getting out of Detriot alive tonight Jim... wow.

Heard it on the radio coming home from my son's baseball game..... Hell, even the hometown announcers (Tom Hamilton and Mike Hegan, Cleveland) were up in arms and pissed as hell about the call. Tom Hamilton's quote, "This is what happens when the umpires feel they need/or deserve to be a part of the game. I hope all hell breaks loose on those overweight/overhyped pieces of refuse.... The best umpires are the ones that you don't even realize that they're there.

They were also talking about how Joyce blew a call the inning before on a Johnny Damon call which led to 2 runs for the Tigres...

I feel so bad for Galarraga.
This is something that happens once in a lifetime for a kid, and he gets absolutely ROBBED of a perfect game.
This is the single worst call in the history of baseball!
IF Jim Joyce still has a job by the end of the week I will send a rather hateful letter to Selig...this is something that should NEVER happen.Unbelievable.

What a blunder. ESPN announcers talking about it seemed somewhat sympathetic to the ump, saying "at least he apologized."

To hell with that. Who knows what the ump's motivation was in making such an atrocious call. Amazing.

(Sorry for the bad video, but it shows the last inning and blown call with the poster's live reaction and comments)

YouTube - Armando Galarraga Perfect Game or Worst Call In History of MLB 9th inning

The call was criminal.

Incidentally, Detroit centerfielder Austin Jackson's catch for the first out in the 9th has got to go down as one of the greatest catches ever. Joyce stole a lot tonight. I really hope it was simple human error and nothing else.

Reminds me of the refs at N.D. vs. Mich. this past season. Total theft of a game.

To have something that had only been done 20 times previously in the history of MLB taken away on a blown call is awful. Joyce feels terrible and has taken full responsibility for missing the call. "I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay" "I cost that kid a perfect game"

Joyce should feel terrible!
He should do the honorable thing and retire!

Gallaraga is a better man than me. I would have strangled that idiot Joyce out there on the field.

Joyce should never know happiness again.

seriously???... lol

the guy admitted fault... and really Gallaraga did not have history taken from him... this will go down in history as the perfect game that didn't happen... this will be remembered just as much as if he had gotten the final out... maybe even moreso... perfect games are remembered, but think about the historically bad calls... there are really so very few of them... who the hell would know who Fred Merkle was more than ONE HUNDRED YEARS after the fact if not for that call???... The 85 world series will never be forgotten, not for the teams that played but for that call... as time passes Joyce and Gallaraga will laugh at this and both will probably accept their places in history with open arms.

That's the facts.

He still isn't in the record books. It was taken from him. Smells like rape in here...

Local news is saying the Selig might reverse the call. Either way, this perfect game didn't go down the same as all Galarraga's predecessors did.

Was there only one more hitter after the blown call? Selig can make amends for his All-Star game disaster by reversing the call. Doesnt change anything about the outcome of the game. 1 player loses a hit that wasnt, 1 player loses an AB.

Do the right thing.

I've hated Selig ever since he tried to get the Twins out of the league.

To answer the question, yes there was only one more batter after the blown call

He actually got 28 consecutive outs... the blown one and the one right after....that is impressive!

I watched the whole game with about 100 people over dinner at our club. You can't believe the outrage when he called the batter safe. This comes from watching each inning pass and the tension build with each additional pitch and each additional out. Everyone in the room was on the edge of their seats in the ninth inning.

I watched alot of the postgame coverage on the MLB network. Armondo is a real class act. He didn't blame Joyce. He said no one is perfect and all people make mistakes. Jim Leyland was very stoic in his after game comments. He knows that Joyce feels terrible about blowing the call. He said the human element is part of baseball and should remain an element of baseball.

I just wish that since it was the last play of the game that MLB would reverse the umpires decision, right the wrong and give Armondo the perfect game he earned. As it is, he has pitched the first 28 batter perfect game.

Jim Joyce should run for political office in Michigan... seriously... at least he takes accountability unlike the rest of Michigans political structure, many of whom are DEMANDING baseball recall the last two at bats to give him a perfect game... all this while the economy they largely created continues to go down the toilet... freakin politicans...
