He gave us 3 mediocre seasons at best. What could he have done with a less arrogant coach?

Confident is a better way than Cocky!

.

28 TD's with only 4 INTs (3 of which weren't his fault) in a pro-system and tons of 4th quarter comebacks is 'mediocre at best'????? Are you serious? Wow...that's unbelievable.

So you are telling me at the ND v. Navy game, when Clausen tries to run the ball in and he gets slammed on the ground and he's a tough quarterback. I sat there not 20 yards from Clausen and saw him lay on the ground taking a breather and thats the moment I stopped liking Weiss because he catered to that....

This is a longer version of the previous video I posted. It's a better video showing the hit Jimmy took. It looks like he took a helmet shot to the jaw, which would knock out any boxer, and the next defender lands on his head and rolls his neck. I think most people would be knocked silly for a second or two. He keeps his leg moving while he is down, so I don't think he was completely knocked out. The play starts at 3:13 of the video.

Are you serious? Show me the quality wins he engineered? Show me the top 10 ranked teams he beat! Stats are for losers ! Comebacks against teams that wern't ranked . Go study Notre Dame football history. He is a forgetable QB.

I think I understand your point, but I don't think past two years was Jimmy's "fault."

I posted a video of the Penick 85 yd sprint a while ago. Everyone had a block on that play. Team effort.

See, you're the guy who says Dan Marino sucks because he didn't win a SB, and the same thing for John Elway until he won his 2 (thanks to an improved defense and a world-class RB). Guess what, IT'S A TEAM GAME. If you put those losses on Jimmy then you simply didn't watch the game. I agree, I don't think stats are everything. So then again, WATCH THE GAMES. ND put up points in pretty much every game this year. The defense SUCKED, they couldn't tackle, they couldn't get stops, they couldn't do anything. JC engineered comeback after comeback after comeback. It's not on him that his defense sucked. And it's not on him that his coach turned out to be an offensive genius who (under his own admission) hugely underperformed as the head coach.

You can easily say he was the QB of 3 mediocre teams. But you cannot say he was a mediocre QB. If you do, that means you never watched a single game that he started with an objective eye. Jimmy called his shot...he said his coach wouldn't be fired b/c of him. And guess what...he wasn't. JC did everything he could do to make that team win, including playing on a foot so bad that it required surgery after the year and he might not be able to throw for his own pro day. And yet he STILL threw for 28 TDs against only 4 INTs. with 2 of his top targets out for many games. Incredible. And you think he had a mediocre year?????? It's a team game dude, it's a team game. Saying that he was mediocre is the same as saying that Golden Tate was mediocre. Ridiculous.

You might forget Jimmy Clausen, but I'll never forget what a stud he was this past year...

I was pretty critical of Jimmy's performance as a soph. I thought he was not living up to his potential. I never would say he wasn't tough and dedicated. But since he choked out the rainbow warrior...he's lived up to his potential, and he retained his toughness.

Anyone who thinks he will ride the pine in the NFL is missing it...Jimmy got thumped more than any QB I've ever seen, including tony rice who was supposed to get hit...he survived, and learned how to be calm in the pocket.

This year, he killed people with his eyes down field. Want to see a quality that translates to the NFL...its that, composure in a collapsing pocket (and OMG he had plenty of practice again), creating space, and finding the open guy 3-4 deep in the progression. Tell me anyone in the draft this year that does it better than Jimmy. Who is more durable than Jimmy? When McCoy and Bradford took shots like Jimmy has taken for three years, they went down...and before you even start on the toe...that injury retired folks who were NFL iron men...he played through it.

I played w/QBs that were assholes I wouldn't drink a beer with (must have known then I'd have daughters), and I played with guys who I liked...SO Freaking what? I can only capture my point this way....

Do you know what it feels like to be down, and want with all your soul not to lose... then you'd know how inconsequential it is in that moment what the QB is like off the field...and how important it is to know he feels the same way you do ON THE FIELD, and that he thinks its funny the other team thinks they are going to win!

Whatever Jimmy turns out to be, buddy or asshole...he must have had the folks in the huddle believing.

Too cocky...don't believe it matters
Selfish...Hell No
Sit the bench in the NFL...so by football you know we mean American footbal right
Not tough/genuine/dedicated...unless your John McCain, you look like an idiot for even bringing it up

we can all talk about how cocky jimmy is, but you know what...im really gunna miss him in the backfield at ND. with all the sh!t that I have had to listen to these last 3 years about being a die hard domer, its hard not to lash out and defend myself (which i do every time) and jimmy did that for notre dame too, cocky or not. Thats why i love your video NeuteredDoomer (at minute 3:00). he didn't accept or allow anyone to walk all over him...did it happen? sometimes. did jimmy buck up and defend his, and notre dame football honor? yes. and for that i can care less about cockiness
I agree and more importantly he's one of ours. Its hard to believe the season this kid had last year and people still think he was negative in any way. You'll miss that arm and accuracy this fall, trust me he will be missed. Jim Clausen was not the problem these past 3 yrs. I say he's an above average to pro bowl NFL QB.

He aint anymore cocky than any other big name QB in the NFL right now. I not one for trashtalking on the field unless its a recipt but I dont think there is any issue with clausen's cockiness. I just know ill miss him and Golden this next year. I cant blame clausen for leaving because of the growing pain for having to learn a new system but I dunno I guess im such an ND fan i would milk my time at the place for all its worth. I do know if the rams draft him at number 1 I will be making the two hour drive to STL to see a game if hes behind center! :D

is he more cocky then Eric Berry coming out and saying that he should be the number 1 overall pick in the draft?

where is all the hawks swooping around Eric Berry? is he that arrogant enough to think that he SHOULD BE the number 1 overall pick?

If Mr. Clausen had said the same thing, do you think the reaction would be the same as it is towrds Eric Berry? hell no, if clausen came out and said he should be the number 1 overall pick, most of the free world press and media would have beat him down like a Mack truck.

part of this argument towards JC is typical ND-hate, or worse, Mr. Clausen-hate. The other part is just simple ignorance.

"Peter King is saying scouts think Jimmy Clausen is too cocky"......I think King is trying to make a story out of a non-story. How many scouts...1, 2, 3, how many? IMO, Clausen has gained loads of confidence which he will need in the NFL. I'm tired of people bad-mouthing Jimmy. He was a great ND qtrbk and will be one in the NFL.

Once Mr. Clausen starts throwing (on his Pro day) all the BS smack will stop.

JC delivers the goods.

Too Cocky? Maybe. I'm don't know the kid personally and he has a bad rep and has had bad publicity.

IMO from watching him the past couple years (mostly this year) He looks like polished QB. His drop back, his throws, his reads, even his leadership.

I also know he's Irish. I'll support him and wish him all the best in the NFL and in life.

I'm also not an NFL scout or coach. So....what do I know? Most likely nothing...

With all due respect . Your argument is circular. I never mentioned Marino or Elway . I never mentioned the TEAM aspect. I saw a lot of stats being padded. I didn't see any name or ranked teams being BEAT by Jimmy alone. I didn't see the leadership abilities on the field that make me want to build a professional team around.

That was what I first responded to. Last year, Jimmy was not a mediocre QB. No way, no how. Only Todd McDumbass thinks that way. His numbers and the way he commanded a very difficult offense in the toughest place to play in America (nobody gets scrutinized more than the QB of ND; he got sucker-punched outside a bar and it made national news. Meanwhile Florida has had 27 players ARRESTED and it barely causes a blip) proved that he was the exact opposite of mediocre. Mediocre team? Yes. Mediocre player? Not even close.

That is what I talked about with the team aspect. You might have never mentioned the word TEAM, but you opened the door when you talked about beating quality teams. For example, go look at the Stanford game. Stanford whipped USC in the Coliseum, and they would have done the same to OK if Luck weren't injured. Well, Jimmy was unreal vs. them at Stanford, putting up 38 points and generally being a complete badass. Yet they still lost. To you, that's on Jimmy. That's called bias my friend. To everyone else, you don't put the loss on Jimmy, because we all know it's not his fault the defense sucked. You put Jimmy with Alabama's defense, and guess what? You have yourself a QB with top 10 wins.

Ask yourself this: Do you really, honestly think that Jim McElwain is better than Jim Clausen? Ask Julio Jones which QB he'd rather catch passes from. But McElwain has wins over top 10 teams, because he had a better coach and a better defense and a better TEAM. That's my point...

I have it from many, many friends who are juniors now at ND (came in with Clausen) that he was a total prick to non-football kids and was a person who had an ego the size of the stadium. Basically thought he was entitled to more than and was better than everyone else. While in some cases that ego can be good, in others, like when dealing with NFL type pressure...not so much.

To be honest, I could care less about the cocky side of this story. With what we know about Clausen let's be in his shoes- the #1 QB coming out of high school, choosing Notre Dame (the University of College Football), and playing the toughest QB job in the nation. I think that Clausen's maturity increased each year and you could see that on the field. What I think that is going to bite Clausen is his leadership, yes he gave us 3 remembered years, but the one that I will remember the most is last year, and I think he could use another year to let his leadership grow. Would you want to be labled as cocky or a wimp...c'mon!!

I did not open the door and that is the only argument you have? Thats is a pretty thin one.

Todd McDumbass..Ad Hominem attackby you and a poor style .

Dream on if you think South Bend is still the center of the football universe. Its tough all over.

The "ask yourself" sidebar is a deflection. No where did I use a comparison.

Jimmy was great at padding the stats after many games were decided. The numbers he put up are impresive but lost in the complexion of the games. Keep grasping at straws, There are very few Pro teams that will risk building a franchise on him !

Allocco 12,1975;361540: I did not open the door and that is the only argument you have? Thats is a pretty thin one.

A thin argument? Really? So you are saying that every game, no matter what, is on the QB? IF ND loses, it's Jimmy's fault, period? Doesn't matter if it's 45-42, it's Jimmy's fault? See, THAT'S a thin argument. The QB is obviously important, but he doesn't play defense, he doesn't block, he doesn't run the ball, he doesn't coach, etc etc. Like I said, it's a TEAM game, and while the QB is important, if his offense is putting up 30+ points and still losing, that's not on him. You fail to see that.

And that's not the only argument I have. Read the thread...there's plenty of arguments in there.

Todd McDumbass..Ad Hominem attackby you and a poor style .

Well, maybe a poor style, but he is a dumbass. I quoted another article by a NFL scout who says what a joke he's known as around NFL circles. Anyone who gives JaMarcus Russell his highest grade ever just because he can throw the ball far from his knees, while also saying that JC's biggest weakness is his accuracy (which is his biggest strength) is a dumbass. Sorry if that offends you, but it's true.

Dream on if you think South Bend is still the center of the football universe. Its tough all over.

Definitely tough all over, but still not as tough as South Bend. Name a bigger fanbase. Name a school more in the spotlight year after year after year. Name a school that hasn't won in 20+ years that is STILL in the spotlight like ND. There is no bigger pressure-cooker in college sports than the coach at ND, and the QB at ND isn't far behind. I defy you to name one school more in spotlight nationally consistently than ND. Hell, CW being on the hot seat lead the news for weeks, then when he was fired and a replacement was sought, forget about it, you couldn't get away from it. And we sucked for 3 straight years!

The "ask yourself" sidebar is a deflection. No where did I use a comparison.

It's been a week since you wrote...I don't even know what you're talking about. But it wasn't a deflection, I guarantee you that. I dive right into the heart of every argument.

Jimmy was great at padding the stats after many games were decided. The numbers he put up are impresive but lost in the complexion of the games.

That's the funniest sh** you've written in this whole argument!!! Dude, do you even watch ND football? Are you a troll? Be honest dude, it's OK. Because there is no way in hell you can say you watched ND football this year and say that JC put those #'s up AFTER games were decided. After the Nevada blowout (where they ran the ball nearly the entire 2nd half), here are the scores of the rest of the games:

L 34-38
W 33-30
W 24-21
W 37-30
L 27-34
W 20-16
W 40-14
L 21-23
L 22-27
L 30-33
L 38-45

Do you see a pattern? Other than the WSU game, ALL THE GAMES WERE DECIDED IN THE LAST POSSESSION! How in the world do you come up with your conclusion that Jimmy padded his stats after games were decided??? You mean, when the other team was in the locker room, JC came out and threw some fades to Tate so he could get more TD's?

Dude, that's a pathetic argument. And again, he did most of that on a busted wheel, a wheel so bad that he couldn't even participate in the combine and maybe not in his own pro day.

Keep grasping at straws, There are very few Pro teams that will risk building a franchise on him !

LOL. Grasping at straws??? You mean, like you looking like a fool and saying that JC padded his stats after games were decided?

He doesn't need a ton of teams to draft him...only one. And there is more than one team that likes him, so he will be drafted in the 1st round, perhaps in the 'lottery'. Hell, even your boy Todd McShay finally admitted that pro teams are high on him and has him going 9th in his latest mock draft.

Accept it, JC did a helluva a job for us, and will be a 1st round draft pick within a month...

All jimmy needs in 1 NFL team to take a chance on him; and you can bet that IS going to happen. By your own admission, he has 'a few' teams looking at him, so he is GOOD shape.

All these yahoos taking smack about jimmy will wet their pants when he throws on his pro day. But then again, they will all say, "Well, Clausen excels at the passing drills, he ALWAYS has; its not live competition, blah, blah, blah...."

It's clausen hate, you will always hate him, no matter what. He is about to get paid, is that what bothers you? No matter what argument is put in front of you, you just seem to see red when you hear his name. hate is blinding.

WTF??????

Padding stats when games were decided? Did you see the games? ND only played in 2 games that were decided by more than a TD. There was no room for padding stats every throw he made was critical. Negative reps for a ridiculous post
