I just hope he talks trash to Kelly like he did to Urban, Kelly will make him eat every word if he does. I hope Kelly sticks it to him on the recruiting trail.

Is he even a good football coach? He was a disaster in Oakland, he was more known at Tennessee for his big mouth and recruiting idiots to go there than anything else.

Its a step backawards for USC without a doubt

Gotta remember though the guy is 35 years old. If he figures out how to be a good coach, thats gonna be scary. Hes young, so he can interact with the 18 and 19 year olds comin out of HS. I jus hope Kelly shows him who daddy is.

From the Dennis Dodd article linked in the "UT Melting" thread:

... Garrett has himself a coach with a .363 career winning percentage, a guy with as many NCAA secondary violations as wins in his first -- well, only -- year at Tennessee. A coach who taunted, teased and tweaked so often he has a rule named after him in the SEC.

...

At some point, Kiffin might become a proven coach and he isn't now. Not after a season and a half in Oakland where, at last check, Kiffin is still being sued by owner Al Davis. Sure, Al is crazy but 5-15 is still 5-15. Not after a 7-6 season at Tennessee where the team became marginally better. ...

This is true, but I see a lot of potential for him as a college coach. Anything outside of Urban Meyer is a step back from Pete!

blah blah blah. I think USC will truly regret this in the years to come. Hes not a coach that can carry a team like USC.

I think one of the most interesting points of this article is this...

"Finally, there's the fact that if Kiffin is even remotely successful, he'll probably wind up emulating Carroll in another way -- by returning to the NFL"

IF somehow he is very successful at $C, I am SURE he would ditch for the league in a second. How in your right mind as a recruit can you put not only your faith, but your future in the hands of this KNOWN liar !?

Wait, you have a school that is facing some scrutiny from the NCAA, so you bring in a coach that, in one year as head coach, already received some scrutiny from the NCAA? Awesome!

Gas, meet fire!

Yea he can recruit his ass off, but can he win more than 7 games?

Does it look like we have had a coach at ND who can do that with his own recruits since 1996?? I would not say crap about Kiffin til ND plays them. The Irish have a lot of cleaning up to do on both sides of the ball and the recruiting class is not on par with the last 2 so we will have to see what BK can do with what CW left him before we get all excitted about playing USC. I don't see us beating them this year either, no matter how mediocre USC is. They have still got too much talent for ND to compete with them...for now anyway.

This is a fantastic day for ND. All Kiffin will do is add to the infractions list before USC's meeting with the NCAA in a month. If memory serves correctly, he reported Tennessee recruiting violations within the first two months on the job.

This staff can recruit, but they are living off their past laurels. Monte is a defensive genius, but it wasn't as if they were a dominating defense at Tennessee wth him. Heck, UCLA beat them at home and they got pounded by a VaTech team that throws the ball as well as I do. Orgeron was fired at Ole Miss after three seasons and never mustered more than five wins. If Chow does come over, it's not as if he got UCLA's offense back on track and he had talented players to work with. He also was fired from the Titans and look how much better their offense is without him And Kiffin, the guy is 12-21 as a head coach and I cannot believe that USC believes this is the guy that will steer their ship to a championship. If I am Boise St or Utah, I am thrilled with the hire because their proven coaches are staying.

I will say this though, who is going to be the bigger mouth now in the PAC-10, Harbaugh or Kiffin? Man how excited I am to get to play both of them next year.

If Lane sucks, that's obviously good.

If he explodes and does awesome, he'll be in the NFL before his first recruiting class graduates.

Either way, we win.

I've been following this over at wearesc the forum. At first it was kind of funny. But now, the majority of posters over there are making me sick. If anyone posts anything that is possibly critical or even a question, they are abused in reply posts with expletives and other nasty lines. Most of the posters think USC is the greatest thing and is above anything else. Win at all costs because we are USC. All I keep thinking is "Pride comes before the fall." I'm always one to want teams like USC to be good. It's good for college football for major programs to be good. Now. Now I want these suckers to get the death penalty. That forum is everything that is wrong with college football.

To be fair, there are some good posters over there, but the majority of them... It's not even like people are making a good case for Kiffin. "He's a good hire because of this this and this." It's all, "We're USC, f everyone else." Moron central.

I just posted at wearesc saying that it is a fact that LSU and Florida have 2 BCS championships to USC's 1. Someone responded with, "if it's a fact you should supply a link." Awesome.

I imagine the money, apartments, autos, etc...helps

trust, faith, integrity, doing whats right - all of these concepts have very little room in college football today.

The sole object is to win now, period. Lie, cheat, and steal if you have to.

If USC avoids any sanctions, I might be done with college football, at least as a 'full time fan'. I mean, I guess I have heard for years that college football is very corrupt and full of hypocracy, but to actually know that it is corrupted and full of hypocracy will be too much for me. USC has done wrong, there must be consequences for it. if not, then there is no reason for Notre Dame, or any other team to abid by any NCAA rules.

Why watch a sport where some schools/teams can cheat their asses off and there be no reprocussions? The answer is not to in-turn cheat, because if everyone is cheating, why watch?

regardless of the outcome, the NCAA is a complete effin joke

I just read an article posted on the Rivals boards, about an interview with a Tennessee player.

Kiffin played USC highlights right next to the 1998 national championship trophy in the football complex at UT. When he brought hundreds of recruits to UT in March, he played videos of USC players. He ignored UT traditions and stole several traditions from USC, as well.
