I woud be surprised if it was Riley as he seems very comfortable in Corvalis and has a great situation there - he seems similar that way to Peterson at Boise St. Plus I'd hate to see him coach SC - he is way too good.

Ron Jermey has been named head coach of the football team at the University of Southern California. When school officials were able to be contacted, they commented that "If anyone would know the ins-and-outs of Trojans, it is Mr. Jermey"

BREAKING NEWS ON THE USC COACHING SEARCH

Sources indicate that Bud Kilmer has agreed to be the next coach of the USC Trojans football program.

I bet Matt Barkley is shitting his pants right about now.

If I had to make an educated guess on who they would target for this position it would be Sark, but they are going to have a tough time finding anyone to take this job right at this moment with all the dark clouds looming overhead.

yea...agreed...hes the first one I thought of. He's done a nice job with Washington thus far, and i hope he stays there...but if the condoms come knockin' it'd be hard for him to say no...

He's already come out and said he's staying at UW:

Not to worry, said Sarkisian, who reiterated that he plans to stay at UW for the long haul.

Sarkisian and Carroll have the same agent, Gary Uberstine. But when a reporter brought up that fact, Sarkisian tried to head off the line of questioning, smiling and saying, "I haven't talked to him," indicating there is no need. He also said he had not talked to Carroll.

"I love my job," Sarkisian said, then he repeated what he has said before, that he has long viewed Washington as one of the premier positions in college football and not a steppingstone.

"People don't understand it, but this is my dream job," he said.

Considering he's from SoCal, went to JC in Socal and went to college at BYU, I find it amusing that his 'dream job' was to coach at the University of Washington and not USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, hell, even Texas or Miami, but whatever. He's not going to SC, and people say he wasn't high on their list anyways...

Report: Oregon State to offer Mike Riley lifetime contract to remain at school - ESPN Los Angeles

By Ramona Shelburne
ESPNLosAngeles
1/10

Oregon State athletic director Bob DeCarolis is prepared to offer football coach Mike Riley a lifetime contract to remain at the school as a preemptive move against any offer USC could make to Riley if Pete Carroll does leave for the NFL next week, according to a report in the Oregonian.
"Mike's said he wants to be the Joe Paterno of Oregon State," DeCarolis told the Oregonian. "So we'll put something together to make [his contract] a lifetime deal."
The report notes that USC has not formally asked permission to speak with Riley. Carroll has not accepted an offer to coach the Seattle Seahawks but his hiring is expected Sunday or Monday.
As soon as news of Carroll's involvement with Seattle surfaced Friday morning, Riley's name was mentioned as possible successors.
He was a finalist for the job in 2000, when USC hired Carroll.
A person close to Riley told ESPNLosAngeles.com on Friday that he "would definitely be interested'' in the USC job, should Carroll indeed leave, but that "he's also in a good position at Oregon State and likes his life in Corvallis."
The decision, the source said, "would be a tough one."

Agreed. But if you're SC, would you give the keys to a Porche to a kid? I mean, he's had ONE year of experience, and he was 5-7. Yes, that was a marked improvement, but in a weakened Pac 10 nothing to brag about. There were plenty of people at SC who thought he wasn't a good OC when he was there, and were happy to see him gone. I highly doubt hiring a coach coming off a 5-7 season is going to appease the alumni or the Raider fans, errrrr, fans...

If Riley is their #1 choice and they don't land him, what are the chances that ESPN call USC irrelevant?

...not sure I would give it to him...and I wasn't aware folks didn't like him when he was there...so maybe its not an issue...but If I'm SC and I'm having NCAA issues...who can I get?

...heres what I'm thinking...1) SC is heading into some turbulence, just way too much smoke for there not to be fire...so what if its big, and SC knows it? How do you get a premier coach to come in...maybe your only shot is to get a guy with some love for the program...Sark.
2) Sark knows what Pete has done to build the program, is reportedly an ok recruiter, has a relationship with alot of the players, and it seems like a little continuity of the systems on O and D might help keep kids there, and see them through...
3) he'd be cheap...relatively speaking...and if SC thinks they have serious sanctions coming (held out of bowls and whacked on Scholarships)...why not save some $$, build with a kid who has the potential to be around for a long time once he pulls ya through...

sure its a reach, but if I'm in SCs shoes, I'm thinking about all of that

If none of the sanctions are an issue, and SC doesn't think they are cooked, then sure...I agree, one season does not make Sark the SC guy..and as I mentioned, I didn't know Sark was unwanted by decision makers...

All I can say is, how fun it is to be thinking through the scenarios of the Condom demise...too cool

I'm not one to revel in other people's misfortune...but...

Doesn't it feel good to see coaches turn down USC before they've even been offered? Let's see what PTI and Around the Horn do with this one.

The media will spin this some how to benefit USC. They'll say the coaches are discriminating the school and should treat them like the #1 school they still are...

I haven't been able to watch TV lately, but I can't wait to hear what Mark Mays has to say about this.

Actually maybe he'll take the job lol.
