Agreed. But if you're SC, would you give the keys to a Porche to a kid? I mean, he's had ONE year of experience, and he was 5-7. Yes, that was a marked improvement, but in a weakened Pac 10 nothing to brag about. There were plenty of people at SC who thought he wasn't a good OC when he was there, and were happy to see him gone. I highly doubt hiring a coach coming off a 5-7 season is going to appease the alumni or the Raider fans, errrrr, fans...
...not sure I would give it to him...and I wasn't aware folks didn't like him when he was there...so maybe its not an issue...but If I'm SC and I'm having NCAA issues...who can I get?
...heres what I'm thinking...1) SC is heading into some turbulence, just way too much smoke for there not to be fire...so what if its big, and SC knows it? How do you get a premier coach to come in...maybe your only shot is to get a guy with some love for the program...Sark.
2) Sark knows what Pete has done to build the program, is reportedly an ok recruiter, has a relationship with alot of the players, and it seems like a little continuity of the systems on O and D might help keep kids there, and see them through...
3) he'd be cheap...relatively speaking...and if SC thinks they have serious sanctions coming (held out of bowls and whacked on Scholarships)...why not save some $$, build with a kid who has the potential to be around for a long time once he pulls ya through...
sure its a reach, but if I'm in SCs shoes, I'm thinking about all of that
If none of the sanctions are an issue, and SC doesn't think they are cooked, then sure...I agree, one season does not make Sark the SC guy..and as I mentioned, I didn't know Sark was unwanted by decision makers...
All I can say is, how fun it is to be thinking through the scenarios of the Condom demise...too cool
