Texas Tech's Leach suspended, won't coach bowl game - USATODAY.com

Texas Tech has suspended Mike Leach while it investigates complaints from wide receiver Adam James and his family about how the coach treated the player after a concussion.
James is the son of former NFL player and current ESPN college football analyst Craig James.
The school said Monday in a release that defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill would be interim coach and lead the team Saturday in the Alamo Bowl against Michigan State. James' family released a statement identifying Adam as the player involved.

Citing the enhanced recognition of the dangers of concussions, the James family said their son has been "subjected to actions and treatment not consistent with common sense rules for safety and health."

The statement did not elaborate on the concussion. The Associated Press, citing a person familiar with the case, said Adam James suffered the concussion in practice Dec. 16. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity, was not authorized to speak publicly about the case.
Craig James was scheduled to work the Alamo Bowl. ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said he no longer would work the game.

No details on what Leach did or did not do. The rest of the article at the link discusses other coaches with allegations over player relations and MSU' supension of players for a dorm fight.

Locked a kid in a tool shed / tackle sled shed for 3 hours for not perfroming despite of or being less than sincere on an injury... may have been a cuncussion... the player happened to be Craig James kid and they compleined to the university.

There was an assistant standing attendant outside the dor the whole detention...

Mike Leach's attorney is on ESPN2 right now in an "Outside the Lines Report" - he is a complete tool. First of all, the guy not only talked in drawn-out lawyer language, but he was also the slowest talker I have ever heard - the ESPN reporter conversing with him had to be getting frustrated. The reporter asked some very good questions, and the attorney spun it as Leach was "helping" the James' boy. I have never been a Leach fan, and I do hope this ends in him losing his job. The attorney kept saying he would not speculate on anyone (including Leach's) thoughts or intentions, however he seemed to find it acceptable to take some personal shots at Craig James... interesting.

Anyway, if this keeps up, I could see somewhat of an unprecedented ESPN vs. Mike Leach war going on here. It will be interesting to see whether the power of the press holds enough sway to possibly get an established, successful coach fired. Should be a good show...

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech coach Mike Leach is seeking a temporary restraining order that would allow him to coach in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday.
The motion was filed Tuesday in Lubbock, Texas. An in-chambers hearing was set for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 99th District Court.
University officials suspended Leach on Monday while the school investigates a complaint from receiver Adam James and his family.
A person close to James with direct knowledge of the situation contends the player was twice forced to stand in a small, dark place while the team practiced. The person spoke to the Associated Press on the condition on anonymity because of the ongoing investigation.
In the filing Leach says he "would never intentionally harm or endanger a player" and that he has been "forced into this situation without being afforded any process."

If they fire him before December 31, they save $800,000.... Mangino.... USF Coach.... Leach.... Lou basically called it out as kids are pussies nowadays and Mark May said kids need more respect.... The James kid could very well be a spoied brat.

Leach could get fired..... I'd hope equally the kid could get black-balled. But, I bet his pro chances are shot - if he ever had any.

No need to come to his defense... leave me alone... I don't give a shit. There's no crying in football

I've only caught bits & pieces due to my holiday season activity but going on just what I've heard this seems kind of far fetched.

I cant say Texas Tech is in the wrong if these allegations are true

An OC position, That would be amazing.

Listen, craig James kid is a little baby.

I concur. Football was and is a man's sport. He wasn't hazed. The evidence pointing at James's treatment seems retaliatory from his discipline he received for not putting enough effort out. He is probably also one of those kids that expect everything handed to them since his daddy is a high profile person. I hope they have to rename Texas Tech to Leach University after this poorly concerted effort by a preemptive TTU staff. The politics involved are mind boggling. I hope the players beat James's ass all the way out the door...

I concur. I am confused as to what so bad happened, like in the Mangino case. James' kid seems like a kid given everything and taking everything for granted. I'd be happy with Leach as our OC.

Mutiny. I never liked Craig James. His conference was obliterated. SMU was obliterated. It's like talking about the U where everyone shoots eadh other.

Okay, don't flame me, but I'm going to take this from the perspective of Craig James.

My kid gets a concussion and gets placed in a storage shed two separate times like he is a fucking toddler and needs babysitting. I don't care about his attitude or his practice work ethics. My kid is hurt and you are singling him out like he's getting a concussion on purpose. This is why there are trainers rooms. There is no excuse on why he was treated in this manner.

Now, with that in mind there is no way Mike Leach should have been fired, but Texas Tech was looking for a reason to shitcan him. At most, this incident was overblown and now you are going to have every fucking whiner out there crying foul with his coach if he doesn't get the playing time he wants.

I don't believe Mike Leach will have a hard time finding new employment.

If all that I have read about the James kid is true. I think his football career is over. He can't stay at Texas Tech and what coach would want girly boy on their team.

Maybe it wasn't being put in a shed but rather the visit by Herr Meisterburger Turd Burglar and the little dab of Dippity-Doo that has James upset?? He didn't go in the shed with a concussion, just left with one. He is going to be soooo popular on campus.

Maybe Knight should have schooled Leach on the finer points of athlete instruction before leaving TT....like the wake-the-hell-up chokehold.

Priceless post my friend. I have to say, I liked Knight. It certainly seems contradictory to hire a man, such as Knight a few years ago, and then fire a FB coach that has TTU rising to the top... Also, altogether, a lesser charge.

People in respective positions are so afraid of the balance and shifts of power alike... I bring to the stand, the Power Elite orchestrated recession of 2008.

The story I heard was the kid never complained of a concussion until days after the reprimand for attitude and on field lethargy... the kid thought he was privileged as James' kid - imo...

Also... Lubbuck is pissed.... they can't believe their coach was fired... I think this will turn out badly for James....

Narcissism gone wild. Never liked the Craig group. Never liked Leach..SMU did after all suffer the death penalty.

So did the southwest conference.

They continue to melt and take others with them.

OK, ESPN is ridiculous/sensational. I am watching the Nebraska /Arizona halftime show with Rece, Lou and Mayday. They are talking about this stiuation and show commentary by Bruce Feldman. Then they show these clips of Leach and its set to music. The music is this piano and its sad music- as if he died a sudden death. Give me a break. He got fired for being hard-headed. Hopefully others heard this.

Texas Tech is irrelevant
