Obviously they weren't undefeated, and the first thing to do is start winning more than 6 games a season. But that's a job for people like the coaches and the players. As a fan, I'm free to imagine a better world.

And unless I'm wrong, there's no way an undefeated ND would be going to the Championship game over an undefeated Bama/Texas. So I think that when the program does start winning we may be in a situation where the barrier to BCS games is fairly low (because if they can take ND they will) but the barrier to the NC game is incredibly high--like blow USC and Michigan off the field to have a shot high.

I'm not sure if this is a bad thing, especially as this team is still a while away from being physically ready to win a NC, but the slew of unbeaten teams this year got me thinking what if.

I really dont know. I think if everything else stayed the same in SEC their chamo would go for sure. It would all be IMO to if they felt our schedule was more difficult than Texas. With Michigan being weak this year ( they wouldve been 4-8 had we won) and USc being weak I think that we wouldve gone to the fiesta Bowl and played a non-BCS team or played Cincy.

I think an undefeated ND team this year would've gotten in the NC game over Texas. Texas had the advantage of starting off with a much higher ranking than ND at the beginning of the season, but their schedule was pretty soft.

USC was down this year, but not as down as Oklahoma. An undefeated ND team would've gone through PITT and Stanford on the road at the end of the season. 8 teams on ND's schedule are heading to bowl games - I'll assume that 8 still would've gone with another check mark in the loss column from ND.

I"m sure someone can tell you the strength of schedule rankings, but I'm saying it would've been a close call with 2 huge programs fighting for the 2nd spot.

I would say either TCU or Boise would be out. because an Undefeated SEC loser would get an at large bid because of their schedule. Im sure we would still get one because of the money it would draw. I think we would play cincy or TCU/Boise. Maybe even GT in the orange bowl now that I think about it.

The Bowls select which at large bids they want, the BCS doesn't determine for sure which schools play for the NC. If we went undefeated being the financial windfall that our brand is, we would certainly have been the favorites.

According to Saragin our SOS was tougher than Texas', but of course if we were undefeated each of the 6 teams we lost to would have one less win and one more loss, making our schedule weaker. E.g., USC would be 7-5 right now instead of 8-4.

Think of all the hype that Jimmy would have had throughout the season being undefeated, guaranteed Heisman right there, with Tate right there in the top 5 talk.

Regardless of all the hate that the media throws ND's way, College Football NEEDS Notre Dame. An undefeated ND team with the likes of Jimmy Clausen, Golden Tate and Micheal Floyd would have drawn the votes for sure. Remember, Texas had plenty of rough patches this year which would have give the voters the excuse to have ND playing Bama for the NC, especially with the close game against Nebraska.

as was stated earlier, had that happened, the SOS between ND and Texas would be very close, if not lower for ND. the scenario above would have put USC and Stanford at 7-5, Pitt at 8-4, and Michigan at 4-8.

that would have left Pitt as the only team ending the year ranked that ND beat, while Texas beat OK st and Nebraska, who ended ranked (BCS). i dont see where ND would have leaped over texas.

If ND beats a USC that is 11-1 or 10-2 and a Michigan of the same sort of record then I believe they would have gotten the nod for the NC game over Texas. They could hype it very well, Clausen probably would have won the Heisman, if that were the case, with Golden Tate in consideration, and would be advertised accordingly. ("High powered Irish Offense vs. Bama's defense" fans love matchup's like that) Along with ND's fan base they certainly would have gotten the nod.

One thing you must keep in mind, ND is a team with no "tweeners" either you love them or you hate them. This has been achieved by its greatness in the past. Kind of like Ali, some bought tickets to seem him win and some wanted to see him lose. Either way, they bought tickets. I know people that hate ND because they are envious of them. They are hated because of their success in the past. That almost suits me fine, except I wanted them to also be hated by those people for their current success. ND is America's college team, and there are many that hate that.

I thought of that. If anything, the powers that be would want to keep ND out of the NC game. Why? Because ND will draw if its a BCS bowl period. The NC game will draw because its the NC game. Therefore, it makes more sense to put ND in a BCS game and not the NC, to get 2 huge drawers instead of one. Plus, more media types seem to not like ND than to like them.
