What was classless about it?
Media/Media/Media. Plus he explained and showed his point in an intelligent, classy, way. Watch the media twist it and make him look bad, when he was only trying to prove a point on how media screw it up.what is wrong with what he did?
Weis is in no position to be talking about rumors of the personal life of a rival coach. If this is untrue it is a very hurtful rumor that could hurt the Carroll family. It was an awful thing to say.
Nicely said with one more point- fear and jealousy makes you do such things. They dont want to deal with Notre Dame on a roll, all you have to do is listen and you can hear their fear of Notre Dame. Its about time that point was addressed and brought to the front. Kick when their down boys dont let 'em up we saw what they can do when they get it right.i agree with you here. while it was a douchey thing to say, he got thrown under the bus by these "journalists".
as if it wasn't clear already, the HC search and now the weis firing has really shown the true colors of most reporters today. no due diligence, no reliable sources, no respect for the traditional rules, and double standards galore. if he really said this off the record, it makes me sad to see him get kicked while he's down.
Do you think this will affect Pete's chances with Swarbrick? Will Charlie put ina good work for him. Living in South Bend wold be god for Pete's fidelity. I watch the ND games at a bar in Hermosa Beach and their are birds everywhere.

No. I think the chances of Carroll having an extramarital affair with Jack Swarbrick are unchanged, in light of this rumor.
Just another example of why gossiping is not the correct thing to do. I also have no clue why you would trust someone in the media to not report that.
Yep.
But since there is no video of the interview, we don't even know exactly what was asked and what was said.
Media stirring up stuff.
I wonder how many members of the "media" lurk on this site posing as an ND fan. I notice that many of the new posters are the ones starting rumors. Doesn't bother me, but CW said that many internet rumors actually hurt his wife and son. That's not cool. Let the man go. He worked hard and was one year away from getting over the hump. Just my opinion.
What was classless about it?
For the record, CW wasn't even talking about Pete Carroll in a realistic sense. He said INTERNET RUMORS can be very harmful to your family and he used the internet rumor about PC as an example of how.
This is why it was supposed to be off the record and also why it was taken out of context. I do agree with most that CW should have just taken the money and gotten out of Dodge, but you can't really fault him for this one.
Men of integrity keep their mouth shut!
Men of integrity stand up for what they believe in. Keeping your mouth shut has nothing to do with integrity.
Weis is gone, quit trying to shovel more dirt on him. You don't like him. We get it, already!
If you don't know , then no one can explain it to you.
Just remember that no body likes a tattletail!
This was incredibly classless by Weis.
It was. His excuse rings hollow. Anyone who deals with the press more than once knows that NOTHING is off the record, especially when they say it is off the record. Charlie's no idiot, he knew exactly what he was doing.

Speaking about another coaches private life without any substantiation and only rumors, is classless and crude.
Men of integrity will not gossip and that is what Charlie did. Shame he lost his job the same week too!
Weis being gone does not absolve him of the stupidity he displayed. He brought this on himself and I am sorry you don't like it, but he did it , I didn't!
What exactly did he do? He didn't "out" Pete Carroll for anything. I think that is the big distinction, in my mind. If he had been the initial source of the rumor, or had said something to the effect of, "Hey, did you hear the rumor about Pete Carroll living with a Grad Student?", then I would be all over Weis for it. All he did was point out something that he apparently had reason to believe that the reporters that he was talking to already knew.
But, on that subject............what does it say about "we the people", when (if the rumors are true) a guy who is cheating on his wife, as well as (probably) breaking workplace rules on fraternization, is considered some kind of "victim"?
You want to justify Charlies behavior and nothing will do that.

Exactly correct, and they brought it up, he should have just said his ideas on the subject of how he was treated in his own words without a 'poodle' reference. He made a mistake, big deal the real point of the matter is how the media still takes it to the negative and runs it into the ground against Notre Dame. The one thing missing once the team starts winning again (and they will win again) is a concerted effort to "play the game" like many (SEC/little 11/Big 12/pac 10) media outlets do. I would like to see a national show centered on Notre Dame like the old coaches show. It would help brand the Notre Dame name and combat the influence of shows like CBS Sports/Tony Barnhardt. These shows are only there to tout their conference and their agenda. Hell 2 months ago Tony Barnhardt was lobbying for a ala/fla title game before they even played the conference off. Notre Dame should roll up its sleeves and get in that game. The hosts could be a who's who of Notre Dame legends. Fight the damn fight dont just take it and say nothing. No, I want people to be honest about the situation. People are treating this like Weis revealed some dirty secret of Carroll's, that no one else knew about. That seems to not be true. From the quotes that I read, it seems pretty clear that Weis knew that the reporters knew about this story. I certainly wouldn't call Weis' comments classy, but neither would I characterize them as classless. I would say that they are in a gray area.
