with all due respect, this doesnt mean a damn thing. If there isnt an easy out option of this for a coaching job then his agent is inept.

I would rather have Tony Dungy myself, but I am still sticking to the coach we have.....What has Gruden done really? Besides win with Dungy's team...What after that? FIRED!

Signing an extension at ESPN does mean a lot, it likely means Gruden wants to wait a year or two or three for the right job to open up. Hes still around football, and the longer hes on ESPN making sense will keep his name hot in terms of college and pro jobs.

Thats why Bill Cowher hasn't even interviewed for some of the recent NFL vacancies.

I agree, and reading this article from earlier this year makes me believe he is itching to get back into coaching. I think there is absolutely out options to this extension if the right coaching gig opens up (Notre Dame?). This does not eliminate Gruden as a possability.

Some of you guys read what you want to believe. The story quotes an ESPN spokesman saying:

"Jon is committed to Monday Night Football for multiple years and his decision to sign this extension is a clear indication of that," ESPN Senior Director of Communications Bill Hofheimer said after the announcement. "He will not be seeking any coaching positions for the foreseeable future."

Furthermore, why would Gruden sign an extension at ESPN if he wanted to coach? It could hurt him financially to abandon the ESPN contract. If he wanted to coach, he would not send this kind of signal, plain as that.

I agree completely. I find the timing very curious. The ND coaching situation will be settled in the next 2-3 weeks and this tells me that he is just not even interested in what we have to say.

Why?

Perhaps the people where he wants to coach told him it would be another year.

It's funny that some view this as a let down. When has Gruden ever shown any interest in Notre Dame? The only people throwing his name in the ring is the fans. Just because he has ties to South Bend & his Dad coached here doesn't mean anything.

On top of all of this he expressed numerous times over the past year he has no interest in coaching anywhere on any level.

He can stay at ESPN, I never wanted Gruden as a candidate if the job opens up.

You're all foolish.

Gruden is the best guy we actually have a shot at getting. Do you really think Stoops is an option? Brian Kelly?

Why would either of those guys leave their programs?

I think Gruden would make an excellent college coach and be great for recruiting.
