Just a discussion on what he might actually have to say about us kicking Pitts cornhole....

I love how he picked Nevada to win and then after we blew them out, he said " Come on it's just a WAC team...Man he sucks, I want to pour bleach in my eyes everytime I have to watch his comments on this school.....:twocents:

He got the better of Lou last week and if his Pitt team gets the better of us this week he will be looking to put the nail in Charlie's coffin. The question is how was this acting towards ND when Ty was there? Not that I give a shit about appeasing him but who would he support as the new ND coach and would he get off our back? We need to make sure we show up this week. I think we either kick Pitt's ass or it's a game like last years BC game and we are just flat.

okie Dokie, I agree with you about him, but I will be almost as happy mudering Pitt to shut his dumb a** up, as to win a NC right now....

Really...this is the litmus test? If he loses to a home team ranked:

12th in BCS
8th in AP
9th in USA Today
8th in ESPN

If that is your litmus test, then you should already count him as "done" after the Navy loss in our own stadium and not have any more litmus tests for him.

Nah, the 4 losses and counting is my litmus test. And yes the loss to Navy is inexcusable.

I understand what you are saying, but I am with Phork on this one. It is tough to say that a coach must win on the road at night against a top ten team to keep his job. BUT, I think he needs to do this in order to offset some of the inexcusable losses.

If the season were over, and Charlie goes in to Jack Swarbrick's office, what could he say to warrant keeping his job? Nothing! He needs to have something to say to keep his job, and this would be a big step.

If ND pulls off a win on the road at night to a sellout crowd would this finally count as Charlie's "Signature Win"? At this point in CW's career this is probably his most important game. If he doesn't win it I'm not sure how important any of the next three will be in keeping his job. I like some of the things coming from this team this year but have yet to see them put it all together and I think that comes down to coaching.

We have a similarly embattled coach here in Boulder, Colorado. But there is a difference. Hawkins' teams have won games where they were the distinct underdog. In four years, Dan Hawkins has knocked off such as Oklahoma and recently Texas A & M which team was on a roll. True, the Buffs have also lost games they should have won. But for the life of me I cannot come up with ONE game Weis' teams have won where they were an underdog, or at least a notable underdog. This is a pretty pointed indictment of his career at ND to me.

I think Michigan in 2005, just off the top of my head.

UCLA in 2007. Michigan in 2008.

UCLA in 2007. Michigan in 2008.

UCLA 2007 doesn't count. The game couldn't have been more irrelevant and the bruins played their 6th string QB or something like that.

ND was favored to win in UM 2008, so that isn't it.

It is what it is....Charlie's signature win is USC 2005

Well, I think the UCLA game might qualify just because ND was winless at the time. I don't think the Michigan games qualify as a "notable" upset. But none of those games come close to CU beating Oklahoma a few seasons ago.

ND was a 22 pt underdog to UCLA and a 2 pt underdog to Michigan I believe.

And I'm not arguing those as his signature wins, but those were his biggest "upset" and his most recent "upset."

I don't think it is just that easy. It's HIGHLY unlikely that any change would be made before the end of the season. So he would still have some games left. If they lose to Pitt, steamroll U Conn and Syracuse, and then steamroll a decent team in a bowl game, then I doubt that they get rid of him. Regardless of whether or not he would deserve it, I just don't think that they would pull the trigger. But they would have to absolutely steamroll their last 3 opponents, to save him.

That's true........... it's also true that, despite the bad losses Charlie has had, none of his teams have allowed Toledo to hang 50 on them. How about Hawkins?

I didn't mean fired right after the game, at the end of the season. And sadly for ND we don't play Syracuse this year.

I must emphasize that around here, Hawkins' tenure is hardly desired among the hard core fans. I have already compared the two and I believe neither will be coaching at their respective schools two years hence.

The bowl game will have no impact on whether he stays or not. That is too close to signing day. The decision will be made in the days following the Stanford game. If he is coaching us in a bowl game, he will be coaching us for the 2010 season, IMO

I'm not saying this to anger anyone, nor do I think this is right or wrong but, I do believe that a decision has already been made and there will be a press confrence within days after the Stanford game and CW will be let go. I'll be surprised if I am wrong.
