I was wondering what you guys thought of Clausen's chances for heisman this year. Espn has him ranked as #2 at this point.

Thoughts, comments, concerns please post.

As long as Colt McCoy continues to win he'll unfortunately get the nod over Jimmy & now with Tate in the mix, this further hurts his chances.

I think Jimmy still may have a chance if his numbers significantly increase over these last games, which they should with Floyd back in the mix. However, I do think his best chance is to have a great game against Pitt - which would be somewhat of a signature win for Jimmy. Again, I know there has been a debate if that is a signature win for the program or not; however, I think it easily could be a signature win for Jimmy's career. In summary, his best chances are if - 1) Colt puts up only pedestrian numbers in these last games, 2) If Alabama loses to LSU or Ingram simply starts putting up less impressive numbers, 3) If Keenum and Moore don't put up crazy numbers or lose.

What bout tebow? you guys think he is out of the running or what? and lets hope that the LSU defense this weekend shut ingram down. And it doesnt look like Keenum is going to face a tough d the rest of the year so he may put up huge stats. I really hate texas so i hope colt messes up the next few games. Best of luck to jimmy

whether he wins it or not, I havent seen a better skillful QB in college football this year. They cant take that from him, even Tim Tebags cant take that from him...

anyone who can objectively look at the situation has to agree...

Tebow would have had to put together an absolutely undeniably phenomenal year to have a 2nd shot. I think it's a little late for that. Remember theres only ever been one two time winner in the Heisman's entire history, dating back to 1935.

as late as last year after the syracuse game....I called up a buddy of mine, K&E who sometimes posts on this board, and told him basically this concerning clausen:

paraphrasing:
"I just dont see it man, that dude(JC) was supposed to be all world in HS. Never lost a game, had all this supposed talent...man, I just dont see it; I fear this guy is a bust, and ND is going to implode again. I've given this guy all the chances I think I can, I just dont see this guy as 'the man' for ND...It would be different if I could see some progress, but I just cant see this guy taking this team anywhere. He is still a kid, and does not know how to lead a football team...."

Mr. Clausen has blown me away from the Hawaii game till now...the syracuse loss seems to be a turning point with Clausen, as well as with this team, weis-era. Mr. Clausen has turned me from a very skeptical critic, to a bonafide supporter.

Since the Syracuse loss Notre Dame has:
ended the bowl losing streak
Landed Manti Te'o (he visit was the syracuse game!)
ended the Michigan St. losing streak
ended the BC losing streak

Jimmy's freshman year i thought he was a shit Qb

If I remember right his throwing arm was hurting him, he was also inexperienced, and his O-line was inexperienced......

The syracuse loss seems to be a turning point with Clausen

Actually Weis said it was after the SC game that he saw Jimmy turning into a good QB.

I also remember people saying it was Ron Powlus fault for Jimmy not being a good QB, so they wanted him fired......

His name will be in the running, but Clausen will have a better chance of winning it next year.

Exactly what i thought, all the hype he had i figured he would come in and blow me away but that didnt happen. 42-0 as a starter in high school got me thinking yeah this guy is going to turn it around for us. i didnt start seeing that till the hawaii game. and now i think hes done a lot for us and i think his leadership has turned the program around. i really hope he stays next year. next year will be a great year if golden and jc stay and floyd is healthy.

I think JC has a shot this year, I think Ingram is out. I am not even syre he leads the SEC in rushing anymore. I think Tate at Auburn is better, but plays for a bad tam. I do think it will be JC or Colt McCoy.

In order for him to win 2 things have to happen

1) Win out. This is a nessecity
2) Throw atleast 300 yards and atleast 3 TD's and no INT's against Pitt on a national stage. That game can win him the heisman right there

Here's a thought guys. Let's say next year that Jimmy & Golden stay for their senior year.
Next year you would have Jimmy, Golden, & Michael, all 3 could be on the top of the Heisman list....

He's had plenty of Heisman worthy moments but not getting it done against USC will keep him out of it. The real question is will he get invited or get snubbed? Ih hehad a healthy Floyd all year we're undefeated ranked #4 and he is the clear front runner. Does anybody know how many TD's of his have been called back this year or others he's been screwed out of? (AA scren pass and Floyd's corner catch). Both screw jobs. Plus one of his int's is not his fault at all. Add to that about 1/3 of his incompletions have been throw aways while another 10-12 passes have been drops. If someone looked at the game films he would move to the top of the list.

The underage alcohol thing dont mean shit. There's no way he'll win it. He had Heisman numbers but their defense is holding him back.

Hes the best player by a huge margin in college football. It is a shame if we waste this guy and he leaves after this year. The team around him has half the heart he has (excluding Floyd and Tate, those guys never relented)

Sadly he has no shoit at the Heisman. The stigma of losing at home to Navy and the probability they are a 7 win team is gonna kill it unfortunatly.

6-3 QB's who amass great stats against mostly decent, one above average and a few terrible teams don't win the Heisman. Notre Dame's schedule isn't weak but who thinks putting up big stats on Purdue, Michigan, Navy, Nevada, Michigan State, etc. is really that impressive? Losses to Michigan and Navy are not the way one paves his road to the Heisman. Were those losses his fault? No, they weren't. But it's not enough to look good in losing; a Heisman winner finds a way to elevate his teammates and will them to victory. Jimmy has done that a few times but consider who he did it against--or more importantly who he didn't do it against.

Notre Dame has only beaten two teams above .500 this year. 'Nuff said.

The fact of the matter is this is a 2 win team without the guy. Bottom line. Its kind of like the MVP in baseball, does it go to the best player on the best team or truly the most valuable guy to his team. The Heisman is really convoluted and there is no formula it seems.
