gotta love the 63 points on 3 passes

as long as this is a 2-score game at halftime, we win. otherwise it could be pretty tight

Dutch rudder, that's not negative. Navy always gives us fits and Charlie is afraid to bury them. i see a close game, maybe not FG close but close.

NAVY MIDSHIPMEN (5-2)

NAVY MIDSHIPMEN (5-2)

Second-half outlook: Navy
October 21, 2009 2:00 PM
Posted by ESPN.com’s Graham Watson

Navy has won eight or more games each of the past six seasons and despite playing one of the toughest schedules in recent Naval Academy history, the Mids are well on their way to another stellar performance this year.

Although Navy has lost to Ohio State and Pittsburgh, they’ve handled the teams they’re supposed to beat, including rival Air Force to take a leg up in the annual Commander-in-Chief ‘s Trophy race, which also includes Army. The Midshipmen’s schedule does become more difficult in the second half, but so far, Navy has proven it’s up to the challenge.

Best-case scenario: Navy needs seven wins to become eligible for the Texas Bowl, but what would make this season the sweetest for the Mids would be capturing their seventh consecutive Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy by beating Army and defeating rival Notre Dame, who they’ve only beaten once since 1963. Sure, the Mids could go 10-3, but it will be sweeter with those wins in hand.

Worst-case scenario: The second half of the season is littered with strong teams which could wreak havoc on the Mids season especially if quarterback Ricky Dobbs can’t be the player he’s been the first half of the year. Dobbs suffered a knee injury last weekend and has been held out of practice so far this week. There’s no word about the results of his MRI, but if it’s bad, that could mean bad things for what has started out as a tremendous season for Navy.

Prediction: Navy notches an eight-win regular season and wins its seventh consecutive Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy. They play in the Texas Bowl, which is guaranteed with seven wins, and continue the strong winning tradition that has thrived for the better part of this decade.

Temple 27 Navy 24

Temple 27 Navy 24

The 6-3 Mids lost to the 6-2 Owls when Temple's Bernard Pierce ran 41 yds for a TD with less than 3 minutes left in the game. Pierce had a 68 yd TD run as part of his 267 yds on the day. He averaged 9.2 ypc on 29 carries. Pierce accounted for 86% of Temple's Total Offense.

Meanwhile Navy was held to 254 yds of Total Offense and 3.7 yds per rush. Navy won the turnover battle, +2, and TOP with +11 minutes.

According to Sagarin's Predictor model ND should be about a 9.5 point favorite over Navy.

I hate the option (on opposing teams).

But this might get us into to the top 100 in passing defense.

Then again, they threw some nice passes against OSU.

Navy game always scares me (esp since the loss) much in the same way the BC games always do. It always has that potential to be an upset. Were always the better team but year after year we seem to have nothing to slow down the option & it's not like it's anything new or we have to worry about something different. It's all they do.

Navy might have been looking ahead. Still think we win comfortably BUT they better not sleep on Navy

I dont want him risking getting cut blocked and miss more time. Practice for 2 weeks then hit Pittsburgh with everything we got

I'd rather him get in some pt this weekend honestly. Maybe use sparingly but I think he needs some game speed.

We will be ready for the midshipmen, gotta do it without T Rob. This is an o line game, control the clock pile up points and rough 'em up on defense. No more injuries would help.

ND has the ability to handle Navy easily while getting Floyd some reps in preparation for Pitt. Whether they do it or not is entirely up for debate.

I hope they can get Floyd a few reps if he is healthy and ready to go. When Ronald Johnson was cleared to play for USC against Notre Dame, Petey said it just wasn't his time yet, but the next week, he made a diving catch and landed, pretty much, chest first with no problems. I know making comparisons to USC sucks, but isn't Floyd pretty much on the same timetable as Johnson was? If Floyd is cleared to play against Navy, he doesn't need to play a bunch. He just needs to get his feet wet for the next week.

I understand the cut block concern if we're talking about KLM but who is going to through a cut block on a WR?

I think ND will cover the 11. This is going to be a great test for our front 7. As always when playing Navy first down is the key. We need to get them in 3rd and long situations. I think we will see ND go with more athleticism to counter the option. I see Flemming, Neal, and McCarthy having big games for the Irish D.

On offense this is a game for the O-line. We have a huge advantage up front. A heavy dose of Allen and Hughes. Eventually Navy is going to have to bring an extra guy to slow down the run. If that happens Navy will be in trouble, especially if Floyd is back. They will have to pick their poison. Bring a safety and leave Floyd or Tate in man. or bring a backer and leave Rudolph man up. ND will pull away in the second half with big plays in the passing game. This year we finish the job.

I think Brett Favre would, he cut block a CB in a preseason game. Anything is possible with him it seems like.

Sigh... triple option week. Know what that means?

DL and Mike... Dive back. DE/OLB. QB. Safety and Corner... Pitch back.
