I'm definitely a realist....I'd say there are 2 types of ND fans. Rational and Irrational

The rational fans know that no matter who the coach is, if you dont have the horses your not gong to beat anyone. So if you lose to syracuse, or navy, or have a year like '07, rational fans understand that it isnt all on the coach. Rational fans understand that if you inherit a program of 3 star recruits, and nothing in the cupboard, its going to be a long road ahead to turn it around. Rational fans understand it takes time to re-build a program from scratch. especially when you are laying down your own, new foundation, not trying to re-capture anything from the past. Rational fans understand that you need to work towrds a goal to achieve it, and thats takes time. Rational fans saw other programs take the quick road (miami, FSU, USC) and knows there is a right way, and wrong way to go about things.

Irrational fans say ND should win the NC every year, an ND player should get the heisman at least once every 3 years...if that doesnt happen, someone needs to get fired. Irrational fans demand and expect to go undefeated every year. Irrational fans think you can just fire a coach, and put anyone in there and it will improve (hello George O'Leary). Irrational fans think by firing a coach that all your problems will go away. Irrational fans have no faith (ironic if your a irrational catholic ND fan; wheres your faith?). Irrational fans have tunnel vision, they cant see the big picture, they cant see progress.

Irrational fans shoot themselves in the foot, in an attempt to make their headache go away.

For me, it's impossible to have an intelligent conversation/argument with an irrational fan, its a no-win situation and a waste of time. its the biggest reason I stay out of the 'Fire Weis", "Weis sucks" threads, partially because its just the same post over and over again, but partially because its a no win argument/situation. I've said it before, ppl hate Weis...even ND ppl, and nothing is ever going to change those ppl minds about Weis...they never had any faith in him to begin with, all of sudden winning 1 game is gonna change that?? wishy washy....even if those ppl ever start to appreciate Weis, they'll just hate him the next time he loses anyway.....

Don't forget poster type #6 -

Perverted, neurotic, flatulent, orphaned, insomniac, sugar-addicted (prize inside), masturbating, necrophiliac, sociopathic, reindeer, with irritable bowel syndrome who sometimes pretend to be muppet characters with tendencies to punch puppies, hump your leg, and poop on your lawn.

We are all God's Children. Some are just brats.

Ok then tell me, when was the last time we went into a season with the 36th toughest schedule. I never said I had a problem with it, but when 2 out of the 12 teams on your schedule are currently in the top 25, 9 wins is not to much to ask, and should be expected.

According to Phil Steele ND's 2008 Schedule was ranked #60 (that's on page 317)

With the exception of phork (8 wins) I think most of us here, preseason expected ND to win 9 games. I know I say ND had a chance to beat all the opponents on the schedule BUT AT LEAST 6 OF THEM HAD THE CAPABILITY TO BEAT ND. I didn't forecast 6 losses simply recognized that talent, coaching, weather, breaks, momentum, injuries, and bad calls, and misplays happen.

ND has Clausen hobbling, Aldridge missed most of the season, Floyd missed most of the season, and Allen was out with an injury. And now we've lost Parris, the #3 WR joining the #2 WR on the sidelines. But of course the only thing relevant is John Saunders or some other twit saying "weak scheudule" and you don't look any further.

Have you noticed how many of those preseason Top 25 that gorged the first few weeks on Division AA teams are dropping now that they face Division 1 teams?

Are you aware that ND hasn't played a Division AA caliber opponent since the 1930's?

I don't recall forecasting 8 wins. In fact I thought it would atleast 10.

lose to BC OR lose 2 more regular season games OR lose in a bowl game, regardless of which game that may be, I think he is gone.

IF the Irish win the rest of their regular season games and then lose a bowl game, Weis will NOT be gone! Going into the season unranked, facing a tougher schedule than anticipated (scUM better than thought, Navy's playing well, UW is a LOT better than thought, BC is better than thought, etc.), recruiting is going quite well and going 10-3 would be enough to save his job, IMO.

I am curious. I have heard over and over again that Crist will be the starter next year if Clausen leaves, and maybe deservedly so. But I have only seen him play in one game, even though he gave ND a boost in that game with some impressive running, it looked to me as if the game was getting away from him, if not for Clausen coming back in. I am not saying that Crist won't be a great quarterback. He very well may be. But what evidence is this being based upon? Is it possible that as a back up he comes in with less expectations and pressure than that of the starter and after settling into the starting role peforms like crap. I will reiterate, I am not saying this will happen, I hope every year the QB does better than the last QB, or has a better season than he did last year. But, if he doesn't will it be the first time you have ever seen an athelete have high expectations and not live up to them? I am curious to see how the 3 categories of poster respond now and after they have seen him play as a starter.

My only point is, great expectations do not necessarily = great perfomances.

The thing that gives me the biggest cause for concern, is the fact that they didn't let him take many chances in his time against Purdue. The playbook for that game, with Crist in, seemed incredibly limited. This could be a case of the coaches not wanting him to make a mistake, and destroy his confidence, or.........it could be a sign that he has not impressed the coaches in practice. One thing that I think would help Crist, would be having Floyd on the field. Floyd is the kind of receiver who can make up for a throwing mistake by the quarterback. He has an incredible ability to adjust to the ball, and to go up and make a play on it. The downside to that is........I haven't seen any of the other receivers exhibit that same ability on anything even approaching a consistent basis. I'm hoping for big things from Crist. I'm just not going to count on them, until they happen.

It screamed to me that he cant throw the ball accurately enough to be trusted to.....throw the ball. We went directly into the toilet in that Purdue game after the initial surprise of that wildcat bullshit.

I think the coaches have been impressed by Crist. Jimmy didnt come back into the game in the 4th quarter due to some medical miracle, he could have theoretically played the whole game if need be. They trusted Crist to play smart and then work the clock when they had a lead.

I dont trust Crist...nothing against Crist, I think/hope he will be good.

But Mr. Clausen makes this offense go, its him that makes the reads, makes the check offs, and distributes the ball. You see the difference in Mr. Clausen from last year to this year; it mirrors the difference between the team last year and this year.

Mr. Clausen makes this offense run good, Crist is unproven at best (not to say that he wont be great) Can Crist make the same decisions as Mr. Clausen? does he have the arm strength and accuracy that Mr. Clausen has? I dont think so...not at this time

Mr. Clausen is the straw that stirs the drink on this team. By no means does he do it alone, but we would not have the same offense with another QB. Floyd, Tate, Rudy, Allen, etc, etc....someone is getting the ball to those guys and its harder than it looks.

nothing at all against Crist, this says more to my confidence in Clausen, than anything against Crist...but when Crist took the field earlier this year, i had feelings of dread come over me. I had an '07 flashback, visions of snaps going over the head of the QB, turnovers, and an inablity to move the ball effectively.

Crist is a completely different QB. He is more of a gunslinger. Stronger arm but not as accurate and more mobile. He will be fine next year. Dont forget how much talent is around him now. This is not 07

I FULLY expect Clausen back next year....at this point, I would be SHOCKED if he leaves. For me, its not even a question of whether he will be back or not. I feel like there is no way he wont be back.

I tend to agree. It's either stay in college, be a God and light up college football, or risk the chance of having to die young in Oakland or here in Cleveland.... Doesn't seem a tough decision at all if you ask me.

I don't think Cleveland would be taking a QB, with the top pick. They have too many needs, and already have a QB controversy on the team.

Sorry for the delay. I was switching my black eye patch from left to right.

I'm not flatulent. I simply piss and poop on lawns. No big thingy.

They deserved it.

Be careful on those lawns, some have fake deer that can be tricky. As soon as you mount one some ahole will tape you on his home recorder and then America will laugh at you on Americas Funniest Home videos.

Or maybe they wont laugh.... maybe they will admire. But what the hell do i know. Have fun with it either way.

No, we only lose 3 linemen, should Stewart choose to come back. It was just one poster who didn't know that ND 'redshirt' policy...

Actually, that is not entirely true because I think it really depends on how drunk she was. Think about it this way: is it necrophilia if you have sex with a girl in a vegetative state? I am not passing judgement - I just think if you put a dead girl and a girl in a coma side by side and closed your eyes, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. If you were able to arrange that, would it count as a three way?

Depends on how long the dead girl had, in fact, been dead.

Most teams declare a redshirt season when a player qualifies for a redshirt. Forgive me for thinking that ND would do something that just about every other team in college football does. I'm kind of used to seeing Jr.(RS) next to a player's name when they've redshirted for a season.

I guess I need to dedicate more of my life to ND football. Here I thought that reading up on recruiting on scout.com every two or three weeks, looking at the SB Trib every other day and posting here was enough. Sheesh.....

lol I know the redshirt policy, but until a 5th year is granted the player is a sr. I was using it to make a point.
