I think sweis is a good coach but i keep losing debates to my friend and other kids are making fun of me. I found your forum through a google search. can you help me argue against the facts he emailed me today?

You might want to change the topic to thier overrated QB who should be converted to tight end by next year. Point out that OSU has practically no admission standrards for athletes and ask him how they did against Purdue last week and point out that we happened to beat them this year. The future looks brighter for CW and I think we will have a better record by the end of the season than OSU. As far as the 2007 season is concrned your friend needs to understand how important recruiting is to success in CFB. The cupboard was left bare for CW by Ty and 07-08 were rebuilding years.

Good luck and let him know that Woody Hayes was a nutbar.

the bad thing though is that we have been studying debate so none of the points you brought up would help me at school. our teacher taught us that those points are "specious" and "red herrings."

I'm having a lot of problems trying to find a way to debate that record against winning teams.

Wow, sounds like a private prep school in Ohio. Is the debate whether or not CW is a good coach, good head coach or good college footbal head coach? How long can the period of review span? In 2005 & 2006 CW's accomplishments with a team with no depth that was a very subpar offense under Ty achieved some of the most prolific offensive numbers in ND history. I would also note that every week the team playing ND has it circled n their calendar as either their biggest game of the year or second biggest. When teams come to play ND they are pumped up. It is tough to get young players hyped up week in and week out. When teams show up to play ND they bring their A-game.

This is the correct response.

The truth is, the program has underperformed as of late relative to the standards to which the university and Irish fans hold it to. This simply cannot be contested. That "my friend" brings this up is neither novel nor enlightening to anyone here.

Programs have their ups and downs. Ours is a program that has seen an extended period of downs. And for those who would ridicule us for continuing to root for this team despite the downs, let them bandwagon where they will.

You can point out the numbers all you like, but what is the point ? To tell me that Weis has struggled the previous two seasons ? This doesn't come to anyone here as particular newsworthy. Yet we're still rooting for the Irish every Saturday. "Our friend" is either going to have to come up with a more intelligible argument or troll somewhere else.

I would just tell your friends that all programs have had up and down cycles and Notre Dame is on the upswing. People wrote off programs like Miami for a while, USC in the 90's, Florida State has been down now after dominating the 90's. I read that FSU had a 6 year stretch in which they lost 3 conference games. They have lost that many this season already.

People dont realize, a few bad recruiting classes and you may set a program back for 5 years. Ohio State thought Pryor was the gem of their class, even if he doesnt work out, 1 player, they may be down for 4 years because of this. Its a fragile thing.

also tell them to get in all their trashing talking now, because they wont be able to do it for much longer...and eventhough ND is down, every team still celebrates like they won the NC when they beat us.

you can talk about how OSU wins all the games against the bottom feeders, but cant seem to win the big one....their coach has a good winning percentage, yet he was/is on the hotseat (cuz he cant win the big one).....and whats going on with that ghey sweater-vest of his? plus, ohio st is just plain boring as all hell to watch.

Shouldn't you be celebrating your win over Iowa. Oh that's right, you lost. That's two Big Ten losses in a row now, isn't it? Counting that OSU loss. How did you lose by 18 points to a team that got whipped by Purdue?

Hey instead of asking us about losing records why not walk the 10 blocks from where you are on West Dayton St to Camp Randall and you can ask Coach Belema in his office how come Charlie Weis has a winning record against the Big Ten this year and he doesn't. You could also ask him what his record would be without those BIG wins over Division AA teams like the Citadel and Cal Poly Slo (nice 1 point win).

Then you can get back to your paper on schadenfreude.

Tell him CW is a good enough coach to recognize that Pryor was not a QB and although he did offer him a scholarship, it was as a OLB. While everyone said CW was crazy, take a look at OSU now with Pryor pulling the trigger. He is terrible. But, I bet he'd be a pretty good OLB or DE.

Just a little aside here.. I fully blame Tressel for OSUs dumb assedness. If you aren't going to use Prior with his strengths, then why did you recruit him? I wonder sometimes if Prior wishes he chose Michigan instead.

Naw. I am currently congested and can't smell anything at the moment. I think he REALLY is a 12 year old that uses "specious" and "red herrings." in his day to day vocab.
