here at U of Memphis we are pretty relieved tommy west is talkin about retiring. we have the 2nd biggest spending limit out of all non bcs schools. these are the people the school is in contact with for the head coaching job. tell me what you think

* Former Southern Miss coach Jeff Bower
* Former Clemson coach Tommy Bowden
* Current North Alabama coach Terry Bowden
* Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson
* Ole Miss defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix
* Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn
* Arkansas assistant John L. Smith
* Former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville
* Former Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer
* Former Briarcrest Christian School/ Lambuth University coach Hugh Freeze
* Former Washington coach Ty Willingham
* UCF coach George O' Leary

dont forget we have fred smith backing us. the fed ex owner has said he would help improve the school. ESPECIALLY now that his son Cannon is back after transferring from Miami. I know some of the names are out there and don't make sense, just give input.

Gus Malzahn is a reach and I think he will be a BCS head coach in the next couple years. I would say no to O'Leary, Willingham, and John L. I have mixed feelings on the Bowdens, especially Terry cause I think he would be there for 3 years max and leave. Someone not on there who I would be a decent fit is Ted Roof. Old Duke coach who actually did pretty well for them and then was the Minnesota D-Coordinator last year and now is the Auburn D-Coordinator. Think he's in his mid 40s too so pretty young. Also, Bruce Fowler the Vandy D-Coordinator is pretty good and in-state obviously. Also Herb Hand, Tulsa's O-Coordinator is good. He was the co-coordinator with Malzahn there so runs same stuff as him.

Dude, did you seriously put Ty Golfingham on that list???? I don't know whether to laugh my ass off or to cry. I don't know whether to punch you or to hug you. I don't know whether to tell you to hire him so i can laugh my ass off or tell you to run as far away from him as possible.

That guy is absolutely a program killer, no two ways about it. Yes, he was successful at Stanford, but he killed both ND and UW, and he can't even sniff a job right now (currently unemployed and REALLY getting to work on his golf game). I know Jesus Christ taught us not to hate, but I really, really, really dislike that guy.

Rant over...

agree, but maybe a team not in a major program would be different

Try Moeller High.

If you're talking looking to Moeller as breeding ground for successful college-ready coaches: Chuckle, chortle, choke. You crack me up. Hell I crack me up!

If you're talking Willingham, that might put him in a "pipeline" to return as head coach at ND – Run away, sweet Faline, run away!

memphis pays tommy west more than boise pays peterson. if we can pay shitty tommy west that much. then i think we can throw a couple dollars out to a good name. the liberty bowl is a terrible venue i know. but the tigers baseball team has a good stadium, certainly not one of the best but its good enough, and the fed ex forum is one of the best in the nation for the tiger bball team. and the facilities play a part in it i think for if a coach wants to come here. we're nike backed now. plays big fred smith backing us. i think we could lock down a pretty good decent name...thats if a team doesnt out pay us

tell your boys to add ted roof or herb hand to the list

and i always feel like old fired coaches from big time schools really just dont do well at small schools. I can only think of a few but George O'Leary, Mike Price, Frank Solich, etc. I feel like non-bcs schools have to find the Petersons who will be content to stay at the school pretty much forever or a Skip Holtz who will stay pretty much until he gets offered a real big time job

im sure if anyone it will be a coordinator or assistant from another school other than a big time name bc they will be a reach to come to a bottom school who has to fight at least 3 sec schools from local talent

Sign Ty to a 2 year K. He recruits crappy in years 3 & 4, however, comes out strong out of the blocks. Coaches have done well with Ty's guys ('5 & '06 - - '09) until they have to rely on his third class ('07 &'08) and what he had in the committed pipeline for year 4 (after he's fired).

Better yet, let him help with recruiting for 2 years then shed him like a repltile skin.
