From ESPN:
An MRI on Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen's right foot showed nothing except turf toe, coach Charlie Weis said Tuesday.
Clausen is expected to play Saturday at Purdue.
...

From Weis Video:
Clausen out of practice today. Dayne gets majority of reps. Sharpley some too. He's been running show team. Jimmy getting plate in shoe to take pressure off the toe. Jimmy will get some reps Tuesday and all on Wednesday.

Just try to avoid getting dropped off in Delphi, IN if hitch hiking between South Bend and West Lafayette. Especially on a Sunday morning on the return run/thumb. A long but humorous story that I might relate to bore the shit out of the Board.

Delphi? Ugh

If Notre Dame only scores 27 points against Purdue I am concerned. Under the Charlie Weis era Notre Dame always plays good against Purdue. Look at 07, the worst team ever fielded by Notre Dame put up 3 second half touchdowns on them and only lost by 14. 05 at their place at night we killed them, 06 we killed them, and 08 we killed them. No reason anything different should happen here

Close game, they're big and can run the ball. We need to run it and keep 'D' off field. Purdue can win this game. Lets see if Floyd leaves too much to overcome. I think Tate plays great from here on out. The guy is electric and has got the old ND attitide. This game scares me.

I know it's been said before but, Rudolf can come up huge here.

If we run it decently like we have been doing - their LBs start creeping up to stuff the run - Rudolf starts going wide open down the middle of the field, and he is REAL tough to bring down.

And all that does is open up Golden and ShaqE on the outside.

I like our chances a whole lot, the D just HAS to step it up here soon don't you think?

I don't see our offense having much trouble moving the ball. Like to see how the defense performs, hopefully show some positive signs

Our defense will keep this one close. Purdue will look to control the clock and their balance on offense will give us headaches. I see a close hard fought win. 38-31 type game. Big plays will be the difference. We still have playmakers. Allen, Gray, Tate, Rudolph and Clausen will come up big!!

PU OG Zach Redman Suspended For ND Game

PU OG Zach Redman Suspended For ND Game

N.B. His name is Reckman not Redman.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - The Big Ten has suspended Purdue offensive guard Zach Reckman for Saturday's game against Notre Dame after it reviewed Reckman's late hit at the end of the Northern Illinois game.

Reckman dropped a right forearm on NIU's Sean Progar after Progar recovered a fumble and slid to end Purdue's final desperation play in the Huskies' 28-21 win. NIU's Alex Kube immediately pushed Reckman off Progar, but the situation did not escalate.

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said in a statement that Reckman's actions were unacceptable and could have triggered a larger incident. Purdue coach Danny Hope said in a statement that Reckman made a mistake, and the team would have to live with the Big Ten's decision.

Rich Rodriguez got his wish. After Mouton was suspended by the Big 10 for punching Eric Olsen, Rodriquez opined that he hoped the Big 10 took the same action for other players that did the same. They did with Reckman.

Reckman, 6-5, 297, 5th year is the listed as PU's Starting LG. He started 5 games at LT in '08.

His backup is listed as #72 Justin Pierce a 6-4, 310 Jr. Last season Pierce played in 9 games at RG starting 5 including ND.

Charlie Weis hoping to avoid shootout with Purdue

Charlie Weis hoping to avoid shootout with Purdue

Charlie Weis hoping to avoid shootout with Purdue | The Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne, Ind.

TOM COYNE Associated Press

SOUTH BEND, Ind. —
After back-to-back shootouts against Michigan and Michigan State, Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis doesn't want another against Purdue.
"We don't want to be playing in a game where we're trying to win 35-34 every week," he said.
Weis has good reason for wanting to avoid shootouts. The Fighting Irish (2-1) are 28-5 under Weis when holding opponents to 29 points or fewer, a winning percentage of .848. That would be better than Ara Parseghian's career winning percentage of .836 (95-17-4) and close to Frank Leahy's mark of .855 (87-11-9).
Unfortunately for Weis, though, Notre Dame's 33-30 win over the Spartans on Saturday was just his third victory in 20 tries when an opponent scores 30 points or more. Those 20 games of surrendering 30 or more also is the most of any coach in Notre Dame history. ...

Since being named defensive coordinator at Ohio State in 2000, seven of the eight teams Tenuta called plays for finished in the top 30 in the nation in total defense. The worst season was his first season at Georgia Tech in 2002, when the Yellow Jackets were 50th in the nation at 356 yards a game.
The Irish, who opened the season with a shutout, are on pace to do much worse this season. They are 96th in the nation in total defense, giving up 398 yards a game, including 149 yards a game against the run and 249 against the pass.
...

Whatever is ailing the Irish, they have to start making it harder on opponents, who are averaging 6.2 yards a play. It would be good to start against Purdue, which is averaging 440 yards and 36 points a game.
"There's just too many easy yards that we're giving up," Weis said. "We have to make those yards tougher."

Purdue Passing game

Purdue Passing game

Notre Dame searches for production at receiver | The Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne, Ind.

What it's done so far: The Boilermakers average 229.7 passing yards per game with first-year starting quarterback Joey Elliott. Elliott has completed 61 percent of his passes, thrown five interceptions and four touchdowns. Keith Smith's 17 catches and 222 yards lead the receivers.
The skinny: With inexperience at quarterback and receiver, Purdue has relied more on its running game. When Elliott passes, it's typically short and mid-length. That works when connecting with Smith, a slot receiver who's often tough to bring down, or tight end Kyle Adams. But Elliott has to show he can be accurate with deep passes, and receiver Aaron Valentin (16-139-1) could be the guy to deliver big plays.

More from Clausen on injury_ What does it mean for Saturday against Purdue_ | The Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Tony Krausz The Journal Gazette 9/23

Turf toe is a painful, nagging injury. Clausen may not be 100 percent for the rest of the season, but as long as he can put weight on his foot to throw, he will be fine.
This injury shouldn't hurt Clausen's performance too much because he isn't a quarterback who relies on his feet to make plays.
The junior is all about throwing the ball. He has thrown for 951 yards and nine touchdowns with an incredible 188.6 efficiency.
As long as the offensive line continues to provide the protection Clausen has gotten in the first three games, Michigan State was the first team to sack him, Notre Dame will be fine.
The bigger concern should be running back Armando Allen. The running back is dealing with an injured ankle that kept him out of practice Wednesday.
Allen has come on strong the last two games, and he is providing a relief to the passing game by averaging 108.7 rushing yards. Allen makes teams respect Notre Dame's running game, and that keeps some pressure off Clausen.
If Allen can go Saturday, which coach Charlie Weis said he should, Clausen's turf toe is less of a big deal. Because Allen will make it impossible for Purdue to just blitz like crazy to hit Clausen, because if the Boilermakers sell out every snap Allen will break loose for big runs.

Schmeig to Replace LG Reckman not Pierce

Schmeig to Replace LG Reckman not Pierce

according to Mike Carmin at BoilerStation.com 9/24

Schmeigh is 6-3 300 redshirt freshman.

Big Ten punishes Purdue guard | jconline.com | Journal and Courier

Redshirt freshman Rick Schmeig is expected to start in Reckman's spot against the Fighting Irish.
"Schmeig has a bunch of reps with the (starters)," offensive coordinator Gary Nord said Wednesday. "He was the utility guy if anybody got hurt along the front five and anybody that needed a rest. We consider him a (starter) anyway. He's played in every game and he's played a lot."

Preparing for a blitz

Joey Elliott knows the blitz is coming.
It's just a matter of whether Purdue's quarterback can handle what Notre Dame plans to throw at him Saturday.
"They blitz a lot," Elliott said. "The defensive coordinator (John Tenuta) is a gutsy guy: He lives on the edge. Some teams have found some weak spots on their defense if you catch them in the wrong blitz."
Elliott has faced his share of pressure this season, especially against Toledo and Oregon. Through three games, Elliott has been sacked only twice.
"I think I'll have the confidence in my offensive line and we'll be fine," he said.

Purdue is an average team. If we can't beat them, then what does that make us?

This game is a must win because USC, Washington, Boston College, Pittsburgh, and Uconn are all as good or better then Purdue.

No AA now either?

Should I just start pacing around the room now?

Jumping to conclusions, again?

Who said, No AA?

The 9/23 attributed article quoted previously noted, "The bigger concern should be running back Armando Allen. The running back is dealing with an injured ankle that kept him out of practice Wednesday." The article is two days old.

Charlie has said he'll play but probably with reduced work load.
