Notre Dame wins a close one. Jimmy Clausen has another outstanding game.

34-24.

This is the game that proves who ND is this year! Good or bad. I believe that we light up the scoreboard and win convincingly with the D stopping every run to the middle of the field.

This team just lost to Central Michigan. It better not be close. And, if we lose, some people's heads are going to explode around here. Therapists will be needed. Suicide watch mandatory.

The front 7 needs to show up big time! We cannot afford to let Michigan State control the line of scrimmage. This team's mettle is going to be tested big time.

I hope we either win or lose by a margin of fifty points. same with the rest of the games. I want our record to be either 12-1 or 1-11. The ambiguity about Weis needs to end. All or nothing.

Las Vegas opening line Notre Dame -11

N.B. WR Floyd, RB Allen Questionable.

That's a big chunk of the offense missing.

Allen's averaging 105 yds/game rushing which makes him the NCAA's #23 ranked rusher.

Allen adds 25 yds/game in receptions.

Floyd is the NCAA's #2 receiver with 160 yds/game.

If Floyd and Allen don't play against MSU ND will be missing 290 of its 500 yds/game Offense and 6 of the 9 TDs scored.

This saturday will be my first game at Notre Dame Stadium, and it just got a whole lot more interesting. Both teams had high expectations this year with sparty talking about winning the big ten, and ND talking 11-1, 10-2 seasons, both are still possible but both teams cant afford a 1-2 start. I can't wait for saturday, Go Irish!

This team just lost to Central Michigan. It better not be close. And, if we lose, some people's heads are going to explode around here. Therapists will be needed. Suicide watch mandatory.

They might just be extremely pissed off about this. While D'Antonio has been at State (I know not a long time) his team has never dropped two in a row. Let's just beat the shit out of them.

This game will show us what we have. If we beat them down, we are going to a BCS game and going to have a great season. If we lose, we are going to have a new coach, and win 7-8 games. This game is our season in a nutshell.

In two years D'Antonio's lost two in a row, twice, and three in a row once.

'08 2 Losses in a row
L PSU 49-18
Capital One Bowl L UGA 24-12

'07 2 Losses in a row, then 3 losses in a row.
L WIS 37-34
L Northwestern 48-41
Beat IU then
L OSU 24-17
L Iowa 34-27
L Michigan 28-24

MSU has lost 3 of last 4. Their only win in last 4 games is against Div II Montana St.

Might be better to note that while D'Antonio has been at State his team has never beaten ND by less than 16 points.

My bad, just going by what they said on TV. Good info.

We are NOT losing to MSU. There is no way they can keep up with us and despite all the flaws of our defense we have gotten into our opponents backfield quite a bit. Your gonna see a dominant performance.

If anyone has an ear to any student or way to get this message out there to campus DO IT. Fill that stadium with blind @$$ support for these guys and let them know how much you appreciate the effort they have given to improve. It is not the time to lay down on them- pick 'em up and understand that this game may be one of the most important games in a long time. Of course they cant play the game for them but they can darn sure REPRESENT. I wonder how many people realize the importance of this game after last week.

Blue & Gold Illustrated Game Preview

MSU Run Against ND Defense - Advantage MSU
Ringer averaged 125.9 yd/game last season but MSU was ranked #77 in Rushing only 130.1 yd/game. Against ND in '08 Ringer had 201 yds and 2 TD on 39 carries. MSU has rushed for over 200 yds/game in 3 of the 4 games against Charlie Weis.
In '09 Caulton Ray rushed for 71 yds on 12 carries against Div II, Montana St in the season opener.

MSU Pass Against ND Defense - Advantage ND
MSU has two soph QBs, Kirk Cousins and Keith Nichol, who split time against Montana St. MSU's leading receiver in '08 Mark Dell has been injured and has no receptions in '09. Blair White has filled in capably picking up 162 yds and 2 TD against Montana St.

ND Run Against MSU Defense - Advantage MSU
MSU held ND to 16 yds rushing last year. ND returns the same the backs while MSU returns 3 starting LBs from last year.

ND Passing Against MSU Defense - Advantage ND
MSU secondary returns 3 starters from last year, FS and both Corners. However SS Otis Wiley is gone. He had 2 picks against ND last year.

Special Teams - EVEN
Both MSU kickers are candidates for Groza and Guy Awards.

Coaching - MSU
Dantonio is 2-0 against Weis.

Intangibles - EVEN
MSU has won 6 in a row in ND Stadium since '97. Weis is 1-3 against the Spartans. The law of averages should favor ND this time.

Analysis
MSU has won 9 of last 12 games with ND. MSU like BC has been more passionate about the rivalry while ND focuses on other rivals like Michigan and USC. The Irish should have both the experience and talent to rise to the occasion.

Predictions
Burlage ND 31-24
Haynesworth ND 27-13
O'Leary ND 27-17
Sapp ND 24-14
Somogyi ND 27-20

BGIF, Floyd is definitely playing.

Allen is most likely too, he was barely knicked up I read and would have been in on the next series

Good news.

I never read any details on Allen's injury. From what I saw on TV watching Floyd laying on that track, I expected him to be out a week or more. There's not a lot of skin below the knee to put 15 stitches. I probably wouldn't be able to bend my knee for a week or two much less run and play football.

I guess Charlie will address it later today.

That is what I have read atleast. Floyd said if the game went to OT he would have played. Allen's injury I have read is either a rolled ankle or a sore thigh, which he was fighting all week. Anyone else think Allen is our MIP(most improved player) on offense?

If there is a MIP award handed out, right now it would have to go to our entire line on offense. I hate to take anything away from our skill position players (who are all doing great right now)....but our line has been as much a part of the success this year on offense as they were a part of the shortcomings in 07 and 08.

I am with DiveRightIn. Before our loss I would have said we should whoop MSU, and after this loss we better whoop them with all the frustration after the loss on Saturday. Their only win this year is to a 1-AA school and they lost to Central Michigan, who although are not a bad mid-major team, aren't Boise St. or Utah. We need to send a statement to the nation that we mean business this year. We should have beat those jerks last year as well and I can't tell you how pissed I get every time we lose to MSU. We recruit better by far and yet lose because they, in the recent past at least, always play with more passion and intensity. We need to send those Spartans home in a body bag.

Besides, I want to kill every time I remember when they stabbed their flag into our sacred ground. Payback boys!!!!

Living in the Lansing area I can tell you, people are still confident about this Sparty team. CMU is a bad lose, but they are seen as a good team, also if I have to hear the words "Spartan Stadium South" one more time in reference to Notre Dame Stadium I am going to puke.

I'm excited that MSU had less than impressive rushing success against Montana State and Central Michigan, the Chips passed adequately against MSU... Section 12 - Row F - I'm ready....

Matt Hayes on the ND Defense

Matt Hayes on the ND Defense

Hayes' hot seat: Pryor's position coach had better buck up - Matt Hayes - College Football - Sporting News

The Notre Dame defense
The Irish scored more than enough points last week to win at Michigan. The defense, on other hand, still has a long way to go.
ND doesn't have big-hitting, physical safeties who can walk close to the line of scrimmage in run support and drop into coverage from anywhere on the field.
Want to know why South Florida was so successful in defending Rich <NOBR style="COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_13_0>Rodriguez's </NOBR> West Virginia teams? Physical play from the safeties allowed everyone else in the front seven to cheat and play more aggressively against the option instead of just playing responsibilities.
Until the Irish figure out how to slow down the zone-read play, they'll see more and more of it as the season progresses.
Michigan State, which has won six in a row at South Bend in the annual series, is more of a power-running team. But you had better believe after watching the Irish last week that the Spartans will use more zone-read principles Saturday.
