is because you believe Scouts.com more than your own eyes.

It. Is. As. Simple. As. That.

Our play on the field the last 2 years should not have made ANY of us think we were national title contenders.

You don't go from a 7-6 team against a weak schedule with no quality wins and then win a CHAMPIONSHIP.

Does. Not. Happen.

I had no delusions about Notre Dame competing for a National Championship. I'm surprised by the loss because the key players on this team are in their third year starting (for the most part) and, along with the coach, were supposed to have learned all their lessons in 9 loss 2008 and 6 loss 2009.

But that obviously is not the case. The loss at Michigan seemed a lot like the loss to North Carolina last year but it was worse because:

1. Michigan is team that lost 9 games last year.
2. Michigan is starting a freshmen QB.
3. Our team and coach were supposed to be uber motivated after losing the most games in one season in school history and losing the most games in a two year span in school history.

None of that mattered on Saturday.

Well, most ND fans were saying this, including Lou Holtz. Your analysis is good though.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

I love Lou Holtz. But man does he make us look bad. He's the biggest homer in broadcasting.

The reason I am suprised by the loss is because ND lost to inferior talent. Michigan has only had Rodriquez there for 2 years. He hasn't had time to get the type of recruits to run his system. What will his team be like after he has a few more recruiting classes?
When is ND going to step it up and start playing some consistant football? I haven't seen a decent defense effort since CW took over the program. Giving up 27 points to a young team with a freshman QB is unexcuseable.

You know what's even worse than giving up 27 to a freshmen QB? Giving up 38 to a freshmen QB!

Because it's football season and there isn't that much to talk about in March-August. Why do you care? It's not like you own this board. Some of us are busy working, hanging out with our significant other, outside enjoying the spring/summer, watching baseball, etc.

Much like a street game. He had a great game and will run this system well. If he doesnt get jacked up. As far as Notre Dame being over/rated that's just not true. By the way they started only #23 in the country. That's not over/rated. I see a spectaculer offense with a defense that needs some help but is athletic and will improve. I'm not trying to piss anybody off here and dont want to create enemies but this team is loaded, they just dont know how to win yet. There is a big difference between crushing WAC schools and winning close games against quality rivals. The head coach can only do so much. In this case he's put together a talented team. I'm telling you they are good and the best thing he has done is ask them where from here? He'll be gone if they dont dig deep now and that will be a loss. They are right on the edge of starting to bust some peoples @$$ and to pick them apart now is not smart. That's the reason I said they beat SC this yr and friends laugh. Can't you see how tough it would be to beat these guys when the 'D' comes around. Some U$C guy said some $#@& to me on another thread here moments ago and I just said see you on Oct 17. The offense I saw these first two games beats them with the proper help from 'D'. They were not going to win all their games this year and there may be another bull$#@% loss in the pile.

One more thing what do you want them to do go out and sign guys that are rated 2-3 on ability. Its only a rating service and # to get people to buy their service. Give this team the respect to regroup. They have earned that from where they came from. If they dont then I'll agree with you.

Yeah, I was here last week.

I didn't say busy as in just "busy", I said doing other things like watching baseball, working or getting outside and enjoying spring/summer. That's not saying "busy", that's saying doing something better than talking about football when football isn't being played.

There's no point posting thoughts about Notre Dame football in July. What did you guys talk about anyway, where the players were partying for the summer or the most improved weight lifter?

You're wrong there Montana. This midwestguy had some insane logic, got smacked down by all when the play completely proved him wrong. Then suddenly, ND loses and NOW he comes back and acts the way he does. You came back LAST WEEK, when football started. He didn't. He's written some truly insane stuff and pissed a lot of people off in the process.

There's a lot of people here that state their opinions against the grain. NDOM and Phork, for example. But they do it the right way. He gets personal. Just like he did in the post above.

'Midwestguy' is the same guy who said this following gem:
"Friend in the know told me if USC beats us by 4 TDs.

Charlie will be fired. The administration will give him another year if we aren't embarrassed. If we are, he won't be coaching the bowl game.

Friend is highly placed."

That was a gem. Thanks for the inside info. I'm glad someone thought that the admin would pick a random number that the Irish could lose by. Made the site look absolutely foolish.

He also started this thread, about a certain sophomore QB:

It's OFFICIAL. Clausen NOT GOOD. ACAMP & PADOMERNUT defend him

Ummm, is it still official that he's not good? Because if he's not good, the nobody is. (here comes the Hawaii/nevada/michigan sucks argument). See, labeling a sophomore behind a crappy line and no running game 'officially not good' is shortsighted and ignorant, especially coming from someone who brags that he knows the game. JC will be breaking all ND passing records this year assuming he stays healthy. BUt because the defense blew it after he brought them back from 11 down in the 4th, he'll still not be good. With some people, you can never win. (You're one of them)

How bout these goodies from you:

Listen, PAL, shove it up your hole. (There's lots of things like that written by him.)

But my absolute favorite was the time we got into an argument over who is better, Jimmy Clausen or Cody Hawkins. THAT IS NOT A MISPRINT. He truly believed that Cody Hawkins was on par with Jimmy Clausen, that they were both mediocre. All he looked at were the stats, and would consider nothing else. I tried to tell him how good JC would be (look it up), but he wasn't having it. Since you love stats so much, here you go:

Cody Hawkins through 2 games against horrible teams:
5 TD's, 4 INT's, 52% completion rating (!!!!!), 580 yards, playing for daddy.

Jimmy through 2 games against a decent team (but a bad pass defense) and a very good team on the road?
7 TD's, ZERO INTs, 67% completion rating, 650 yds, 44 less attempts than Cody.

Still want to make that argument? Am I still an 'idiot' and a 'JC apologist'?

If nothing has changed, why weren't you here after the win last week? Same coach, same system, same players. Now that you lost you get some tequila in you and you get brave enough to come back? You bring zero credibility when you do that, because all you want to do is hate. You love to be negative.

Listen, if you continue to get personal with posters, you won't be around much longer. It's that simple. We were absolutely fine without you. State your opinion and move on. We know you'll be back only when they lose, so we'll be expecting you.

I completely agree. I was very entertained by that post. And I do remember those arguments and how ridiculous they were. Yea Cody Hawkins is a stud.

I truly believe some of these people are NOT ND fans. How could you be a fan when it seems like you get pleasure when they lose. Do you just hate Charlie? Or are you just miserable people and like being pissed off all the time? Why not come here and celebrate a win instead of just trolling around after a loss?

IMO we wont be seeing much of midwestguy this year b/c I think we are going to win alot of games.

I absolutely LOVE that midwestguy has returned. It is the same reason most people watch NASCAR - for the wrecks! I love good, educated football discussion as much as the next guy, but I really love watching semi-retarded d-bags get bitched slapped by pros like NDinL.A., Wabash, BGIF, Steve, et al.

I am a sick bastard, I know, but when NDinL.A. gets ramped up and goes for the jugular, it really makes my day and brings a smile to my face.

Keep 'em coming midwestguy! You're always welcome to come on here and have your ass handed to you for all to see.

Nice post...agree with most, but I am feeling the urge to do a little Monday Morning quarterbacking on both sides of the ball...

Tell me how, with a couple minutes left and AA having run the first play of the posession for a first down, do we have an episode of long-ball terrets syndrome (granted the second play got stuffed)...Thats CW...love or hate him, he has a problem with being an appropriate play caller...he does things that seem spasmodic / involuntary...he just can't help it. In this case, the path to victory was pretty clear to me...Sam young was killing people on the LOS...I'd have brought him aside and told him it was all on him...I mean damn the guy blocked people w/o his helmet on, and freaking pancaked the SH*& out of some folks (1 was a costly penalty)...I digress...I just think flingin it around, and then hoping your FRESHMAN punter would change the field for you is a bad call...especially since the D couldn't have stopped ...well my fat ass...

On the D...you are optimistic...maybe I'm cynical, but who here is FREAKING sick to death of the ND defense turning pedestrians into All Americans...this trend goes back to Davie...in fact we haven't had a D (except for Tyrone's first year) since Alvarez. Granted these guys are a little better than the last couple years...but why can't we rock a Freshman enough to get him off his game??? In stark contrast BYU took some naked shots a Bradford, a seasoned vet/heisman trophy winner...and even before he was hurt, he was wondering where the next smack in the mouth was coming from....and his game showed it.

Seems to me, we should have told someone to smack that little punk Forcier in the mouth...no matter what...each and every of the first five plays of the game...flags, long plays...no matter...lay his ass on the deck with snot bubbles coming out his nose and mouth...the name of the game is intimidation for a damned freshman...what did we do...made his ass an All American. Aside from missing the easy way out, and just ringing the kid's bell a few times...we don't adjust well. Whatever they were doing in the second half started the first couple posessions, and we FAILED to stop it...

Really, really good stuff. I couldn't agree more.

Look, I'm not looking for Weis to get fired because I'm not real confident that we land someone better but he's not doing a great job with overall game management. He may have called a great game (though I think Michigan's "D" isn't that good) but he didn't, and doesn't, manage the game well. Blown timeouts in the second half and not calling at least one run on the second to last possession was inane.

Actually he called 2 runs on the second to last posession. Allen ran for 14 yards, and then limped off the field. Michigan then decided to load the box, and Hughes ran for no gain on the 2nd play

Not sure where that is coming from, but keep in mind the first pass is a judgement call between clausen and tate. If the corner is lined up in press coverage like he was, then it was a fade. If the corner is backed up, its a short pass. So its not like Weis just said go deep. There was strategy there. And the 2nd pass was a simple 10 yard out pattern, and was WIDE OPEN. Shaq Evans acted like he didnt expect the ball to be thrown to him, which a WR should never do. I have to think if that is Michael Floyd we get a first down, and probably win the game.
