I'm planning to start a free fantasy football league through Yahoo Sports. It would be a simple head-to-head league with an auto draft (you just rank the players before the draft). So we wouldn't have to all be on-line at the same time to do the draft. It would be a 10 team max, but we could create a second league if there is enough interest. Nothing fancy; just for fun. Tell you what, if we can coordinate something reasonable I'm flexible. I'm also finding out that I can make the league as large as I want, so 10 would not be the max. I'm still gathering info. I've never been a commisioner before, so I need to learn a few more things.

We could do an offline draft right here on IE? Not sure how convenient that would be or if we could get everyone to commit to a set time.

I believe the Yahoo league will allow you to hold a real draft and allow those who aren't present to auto draft.

We have to have an even number of teams. Right now, I have it set for 10 teams max. Since this is my first time running a league, I might just stick with 10 or 12 teams as the limit unless someone is willing to help. If we get 12, I'll probably split it up into 2 divisions.

Concerning the draft, if we do auto-pick: You can set up your own player rankings so the computer picks according to your list. You can also choose players that the computer will NEVER pick for you. This option will be the easiest, but you have less control over who you are getting.

If we hold a live draft: We would need to choose a date. Is there a day of the week and a time preference out there? Once I get some feedback, I'll check to see what is available. I don't know details about how a live draft will work, how long it will take and what happens if you cannot be on-line during the time chosen. I'll try to get that info within the next 24 hours and post it here.

I'll keep updating this as I get new info. I'd like to have the league filled by the 21st and the draft in late Aug or early Sept.

You should hold the live draft whenever people who want to do the live draft find it most convenient. You basically sit around and wait your turn to pick your next player. If you cannot be online, or you don't want to participate in the live draft, the computer will select your players for you based on the list you created. I say set up the live draft so everybody gets what they want.

I'm in - would prefer the live draft too. I would say set up a time for it that works for you in the evening obviously and people who can make it will make it.

Okay, if I set it up the live draft for 5 pm pacific/8 pm eastern, how does that sound for everyone? Maybe Thursday Aug 20th or 27th? This way it doesn't mess with everyone's Friday/weekend. If you can't make it, then set your player rankings and the computer will pick for you.

If this doesn't work, then please make suggestions.

I'm in I'll sign up when I get to it - rather have 27th than 20th - I'm taking my boards on the 20th and will be belligerent by that point after an 8 hour test. I would probably pick Vick first . . . ha.

Is that your bride LA or just some rando - congrats too by the way I will be tying the knot at ND next year.

I'm leaning to the 27th for the draft, just because we might have a better feel for players/injuries closer to week 1. I welcome all opinions, though.

Yes. As of this moment, there are only 5 people who have actually signed up. I currently have it set up for 12 teams max divided into 2 divisions. If we get enough interest I can increase that. First come, first served.

UPDATE: Live draft has been set up for 6pm MDT, Thursday August 27th (which will be 5 pacific (+AZ), 6 mountain, 7 central and 8 eastern, I assume).

As you guys check out the league and look at the rules and scoring stuff, feel free to make suggestions. For the most part I have left the standard settings in place. Those who have more experince at this might know of a better way to do things and I'm open to input. Thanks.
