Getting Married In South Bend

Yup, I'm getting married next Saturday, Aug 1st in South Bend. I'll be taking the plunge at Little Flower Church, where my fiance went to church all her life. Getting married to an ND grad, someone way better looking, way more intelligent, more loving, more spiritual, etc than I could ever be. The kind of girl that nobodies like myself only dream about landing.

Anyways, I'll be leaving to South Bend tomorrow morning to prepare/relax for a week. I won't be around much (I'll still get my ND fix when I can), but any of you South Benders want to get a drink at the Backer sometime during the week before my family and friends arrive just PM me and we'll work it out. See you on the flip-flop...

Gotta tell ya dude, I love your signature. I hate Michigan too. I live in Michigan and am surrounded by these ass hats. My brother is a huge Michigan fan. I cant stand the fans. Anyway just thought I'd share.

LOL. Dude, I can't even imagine what smoking a joint would do to me! My mom put the fear of God in me if I ever did drugs, and then when I was old enough to think on my own I was playing sports and I didn't want to screw up my body. Now I just have no interest; beer and vodka do the trick for me. I think the fear of how I may react probably keeps me away from drugs the most.

As for Michigan, my future in-laws are all from Michigan originally, until my fiance's parents moved to SB when her dad got a job at ND. So there are some huge Michigan fans that will be at the wedding (unfortunately). I went up to Michigan last April for the first time to visit her extended family, and I actually had a great time with her uncle, an actual Michigan State booster (our mutual hatred of all things U of Michigan won him over LOL). That man sits on the team plane with the Mich St coaches, sometimes right next to the head coach (he loves the new coach BTW, hated the old coach as a coach but as a man loved him), that's how connected he is. Anyways, that trip made me think a lot more of Mich St and even the state of Mich (but I still hate UM!!!)...

Seriously though, good luck brother. Marriage is a tough road, but you are in it together. The best advice I can give is to never go to bed angry.

Thanks GoIrish, and thanks to everyone who gave us their prayers, thoughts, etc. It was truly appreciated.

The day/night went about as smoothly as I could have ever imagined. The weather was perfect save for a bit of rain. The wedding was great, the reception was incredible, both families got along great, the best men/maid of honor speeches were perfect, the bride was beautiful, the groom not so much but he tried.

Everyone that came to ND from out of town was blown away with its beauty. My best men's (twins) parents, who were the first to introduce me to ND football many moons ago, visited for the first time and were moved to tears, especially at the Grotto. My brothers, even the die-hard USC fan, were in awe, as well as my cousins who came from Canada. ND truly is a special place.

It definitely doesn't suck to have your wedding photos taken at ND. The reception was in the South Dining Hall, but before that we took pictures at the Grotto, the Rock, the Golden Dome, and other tree-lined sites. By no means am I a rich guy, so this was a blessing. Our photographer was the photographer who does the ND games for the SB Tribune, a young guy who did a great job and had some great ND/CW stories.

Anyway, that's my story. GoIrish, I took your advice and soaked it all in. It was fantastic. After the reception ended at 11:00, the alcohol was flowing in the younger people (open bar all night yo!), so we (about 20-25 of us) finished the night at the Backer. Our friends closed the bar down at 3; the lady and I left at 1:30. The Backer was slamming! Even with the cigarette smoke all over my tux LOL. Back to ND football...
