I am very fired up to report that I have acquired availability on a print of 'Rudy,' and am in the initial stages of putting together a "Get Fired Up for Football" event at the theatre which I operate in Sugar Land, TX.

I don't have specifics quite yet on cost, but hope to offer a single price that includes concessions. Don't hold me to that, details to follow.

That said, we will be hosting a double feature presentation of "Friday Night Lights" and "Rudy," which I felt were a couple of "fire up" movies to get you salivating for football season. The event will be on Wednesday, September 2.

If you are in the Houston area (or know someone who is), please spread the word. I can accommodate up to 800 people for this event, so twitter, facebook, and myspace the word around. Don your Irish gear and come out for a good time, great movies and to meet IA97!!!

PM me if you have any questions. Those of you in the area know which theatre I speak of, but I will provide specifics including location and directions once the event is finalized. That said...IT WILL HAPPEN!!!

GO IRISH!!!

It's an insult, to the amazing that is Rudy, to play Friday Night Lights with it.

Play nice. This is Texas. I am hoping to see some Aggies, Longhorns, Owls, Miners, Red Raiders, Cougars, and Irish as well. Gotta give some Texas love.

NDOM, a little piece of me died when they shut the doors at Studio 28. That place rocked in its day, and was one of my first jobs.

The chain I work for operates the Star theatre on Alpine. The 'big' chain up there always seems to do some creative stuff, you should pitch the idea and contact ND Club of GR. I remember the feeling sitting in a theatre in South Bend when we got to catch a special screening of Rudy for the band after we played at the premiere. The drum cadence still gives me chills...

Studio 28 was the shit back in the day when I was a kid. Since around the late 90's it started to get way too thug and there were always gang fights all the time so I stopped going unless I was packing my twin Desert Eagle 50's.

I usually go to celebration cinema on Knapp and Beltline to catch my flicks. Its way more concervative in my hood.

Yeah, I was visiting up there and saw We Were Soldiers back in 2000 at 1030 at night. A whole different ballgame then when I was slinging popcorn there. Are you old enough to remember the old trampoline park and mini golf they had in front of the theatre? The drive-in rocked too...I was working an internship for that chain and was in the parking lot when they tore down the last giant screen from the old place in 1996.

Other classics from back in the day---Movies at Woodland, Woodland Drive in, and my favorite, Cascade Drive-In. In its twilight, I do recall seeing some bizarre lights getting bright and then extinguishing up on the hill behind the screen. Related to you, NDOM???

Yeah! Beltine drive-in! Sign with the big red roof!!! Drive-in church on Sundays!!!

Odd memories of Quad 6. I saw Annie (the movie) there, and I saw Smurfs and the Magic Flute there. It was pouring cats and dogs, and it was our family and one other woman with her 2 kids in this giant theatre. I also remember seeing the Jaws 3-D poster at Quad 6 prior to its release. Random thoughts...

28th street used to be the bomb-diggity. Putt-Putt golf ruled the world when it was across from Cascade drive-in. One of my first dates after the obligatory Studio 28 date. Do you remember Gumball Express??? It was a short lived Showbiz/Chuck E Cheese place that was across the street from Woodland Mall. There thing was pizza and fried chicken. That building took a few different permutations over the years, including a banquet hall which hosted my senior prom. Koeze's Nuts, Jerry's Road House, Mr. Steak, Mr. Fables!!!! I talk about Mr. Fables onion rings at least once a week. Big order of rings with a Mr. Fabulous or an Olive Burger.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........

Back to the movies nostalgia, did you ever go to the old Cherry Bowl drive-in located in Cadillac? Saw Back to School and Great Outdoors double feature at the Cherry Bowl.

God, were the 80's awesome.

OMG Me and you are exactly alike. Koeze'z Nuts is now on the beltline and still going strong. Mr. Fables is loooooooong gone unfortunately but they DID have THE BEST onion rings EVER (Tasted best with a Mr. Fab or Olive Burger) I'm not sure if I remember the Gumball Express but I do remember the "PINEAPPLE EXPRESS" LOL LOL LOL

And I also saw Jaws in 3D at the Quad. Man....Maybe just maybe we went at the same time. How old are you anyway?

I'm 33.

Those rings were mad delicious. Mr. Burger also had a sweet Olive Burger (and some pretty good breakfast too). I think they are still around??? Replaced Fables with crappy ass Perkins in Jenison..if that is even still there.

I remember Santa used to show up at Koeze's nuts and you could give him your Christmas wish, and they broadcast it on some public access channel on Christmas Eve. Believe in Music is another great former West Michigan institution, as was Mr.Steak, with their cherry pepsis with the furry animals on the straw....OHHHHHHH SHIZZLE!!!!!!!!! Do you remember Roaring 20's????? With the big ass organ where they took requests? I would always request the Star Wars theme (GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK) which came with a sweet laser light show.

Back to the Studio 28 thing...remember KLQ's 94 cent midnite movies? Once a year they showed Heavy Metal, Pink Floyd:The Wall, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. That stuff sold out in 600-800 seat theatres. Know they did it in the 80's, and know it was still going on when I was working there in high school in 92-93. I know you saw Pink Floyd or Python at Studio. Otherwise you will need to turn in your doobie badge.

Ya got me by about 1 year. Just turned 32 in April. Anyway. Somehow this thread turned into the NDOM and IrishAlum1997 lol lol lol lol lol.

I remember all those things for sure. I remember KLQ's 94 cent midnite movies. And Yes I saw Pink Floyd the Wall at studio, But believe it or not I wasnt into smoking mary jane in my high school days, matter of fact I didnt start that till I got into the army and I was stationed in south korea (Man they have some yummy weed).

Anyhow here's a question for you......Do you remember going to Alpine and watching movies at the 2 screen theater for 75 cents per ticket then walking next door to the Clock Diner and getting those greasy ass chilli cheese fries and a malt??? ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaa.

I DO remember the Clock Diner!!! Don't remember muvh about its food, though. Last movie I saw at the Alpine theatre was 'Single White Female.' Man sitting behind me and my girlfriend for a 10pm show started talking about how nice Jennifer Jason Leigh's gun was. Figured I was on the wrong side of the tracks.

BTW, I was born in April too....are we the same person?

Yeah, NDOM and I probably do not see eye to eye on much...except that SW Michigan was the stuff in the 80's and 90's. I'm sure it still has its redeeming qualities today...

BTW NDOM, ever eat at The Dungeon at The Grand Villa in Grandville? Had the best wet burritos back in the day. My brother in law used to be a cook there.

I was in Jr. high when it came out... I went with some friends who weren't into sports... they left and snuck into "The Good Son" starring Macaly Culkin... I cried at the end even though my friends came back right at the end and thought I was a whimp

go irish

Tonight is the big night...JOIN US!

I got a chance to see a 35mm print of Rudy as we screened it in advance of our movie night tonight. I'm not ashamed to say that the music and scenes of campus still bring me to tears. What a great opportunity to see it in a theatre again.

Watching the original The Longest Yard was pretty cool, too. Definitely a time warp seeing that classic (1974) on a big screen.

Hopefully a few people show up for this thing. The Notre Dame Club of Houston will be there raising money for the local scholarship fund, so I am more hopeful for a good turnout to support that cause than to recoup my costs for renting these films for the night.

Even if you're not in the Houston area, tell everyone you know! Twitter, facebook, message boards galore. 7 and 930 pm tonight. Rudy, The Longest Yard. $10 double feature, or just watch one for 5 bucks. ND Club is selling raffle tickets and T-shirts. Raffle prizes include football tickets (or so I've heard)!

Wear your Irish gear and ask to speak to the General Manager. AMC First Colony 24, 3301 Town Center Blvd., Sugar Land, TX (281)277-5858.

GO IRISH!
