All,
Still very green to the recruiting stuff. Can someone explain why a DC is such a critical factor in swaying offensive recruits?
It has to do more who he is than what he is. Yes Corwin is the DC, but he's also a excitable, energetic, very hard working, African American young man that was able to really make something of himself even though he came from what can be a tough town at times (Chicago). Since he isn't that old it hasn't been that long since he was an All-American in college as well as playing and coaching in the NFL. He's also played and coached under some very good coaches during his time in the NFL as well as playing in Detroit for a while, so that gives him another connection there. In many ways he almost becomes a father figure to the recruits/players. e's someone that they can trust because he's been there before, and they can look up to him because they can see what he's accomplished and go to him for advice for their own goals. For instance even after Jonas Gray commited to Nebraska CB kept in touch with him, and according to Jonas they really didn't talk about football but it had more to do with life in general, and when Jonas was unsure about his future at NU CB suggested that he come take an official visit at ND, but there would be no strings attached and he wouldn't be under any pressure to do anything. In his subsequent after commiting to ND Jonas has said that he looks at CB as sort of a father figure.
Each coach has their own region that they recruit in, and for CB that's the upper midwest/Great Lakes region, but as the DC he also take a large part in the recruiting of all the defensive players across the country, and now it's gotten to the point that he's so amazingly good that their basically having him talk to everyone at this point.Which just goes along with how hard of a worker he is. I honestly don't think ND could have made a better choice and at the rate of which he's going I would love to see him as the HC at ND someday down the road. The only bad part is that he's so good that he'll probably have a head coaching job before you know it.
