Robert Blanton is going to be sick

I went to today's spring game, and the most impressive player on the field was Robert Blanton. How dominant he was. Wow.

No matter who he was covering (Michael Floyd, mostly), Clausen couldn't get the ball to that receiver. Blanton was stride for stride with Floyd on all three deep balls Clausen threw to the big man.

To top it all off, Blanton had a pick six and showed what he can do with the football in his hands, he returned it about fifty yards. It was the typical Blanton interception, a perfect reaction to the slant.

i agree, and said pretty much the same thing on the B&G thread. Blanton is the real deal shut down corner. I'm predicting at least 2 pick 6's this year.

agreed...the only way Walls see's the field is if he beats out McNeil for PT. we have some depth as well.

Really, Walls isn't gonna play? Man that's crazy, I remember talk of him being drafted in the 1st round a couple years ago, am I right on this guys? Anyway, that's crazy. I like Blanton's attitude. He is hard nosed. I'm excited for the defense, except the run defense, didn't we look like shit today, I mean seeing how bad we were last year with the run, doesn't that scare some of you, that they could run all over us, all day?

What scares me the most is that Crist couldn't hit the Great Wall of China if he was standing in front of it.

i heard about this....my buddy who loves jimmy, loved to tell me all about it. Not that he was happy but that I wasn't right about Dayne challenging Jimmy.....I hear Nate looked good though. I never saw that coming. By the way, how come Charlie is so quick to name #3 goody or someone else and not look at Nate. Just asking.

I would be he DID look at Nate. Nate's a nice kid, but he's a walk on for a reason.

What have I learned from an exhibition game in Spring? Absolutely nothing. The spring game is certainly entertaining, but trying to ascertain anything about a player's skill level--beyond what we already know--is futile at best.

Sounds promising about the secondary though.

Yeah, you are right here...they always look good in spring. It's never the same as a real game. But it's fun to get that little taste in the Spring...5 more months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its impossible to really judge anybody based solely the spring game. I have always liked Blanton though, he is a playmaker. Sergio is too.

I'll get bashed for this (As I was during the season when I said the same thing) but I thought he was our best Corner guy when he played last season... really the only one you began to EXPECT he would either shut down that side or flat make a play...

I did not see the spring game but this does not suprise me at all... he was a very pleasant suprise to me last year

We have to wait 3 more seasons?

If we could be granted a NC in three years as long as we had to wait that long for it I would sign the dotted line in a heartbeat

lol

this is a ridiculous statement. Walls is a shut down corner and will be on the field all season.

On a side note, ND can have Blanton, McNeil, and Walls on the field at the same time in the nickel package. Personally, I would like the 5th DB to be Sergio Brown in such a scenario because I think we will be dependent on our secondary covering receivers man to man and commit the extra DB to stopping the run...Sergio is a strong tackler and probably the best blitzing DB.

Teams are going to be afraid to pass against this secondary.

Not sure if it was our secondary or if JC was just that bad. I agree you really learn nothing during the spring...it is just a tease for the upcoming season!

our secondary is going to depend on our pass rush. if we get any kind of pressure in the pocket it will be a great year. but if our guys cant cut through a wet paper bag our secondary will get eaten up

our secondary didn't really get "eaten up" last year despite a lack of any sustained pass rush. Rather, teams who run the football well may not need to even test the secondary if we can't consistently stop the run (i.e. Nevada, MSU, USC) as they did last year.
