By alternate team, I mean...who do you root for when you know Notre Dame is out of the national championship race?

For me, it's Ohio State. All of my friends are Skunkbear fans, so it's always nice to hear them shut up when the Buckeyes deliver their annual Michigan beatdown.

I'll take Michigan over tOSU any day....

I am also a huge KU fan in all sports, just like Notre Dame... those are the only two schools I really follow...

but I married a Sooner so I guess I'm also an OU fan now too... their run this past year was pretty fun to watch, although my wife cried when they lost the title game.... and yes, I'm serious, she cried.

1. You'll never hate Michigan as much as I do until you meet one of their fans. They are moooooorons. Some of those idiots were predicting an 11-1 season in 2008, and a national championship caliber team in 2009. They NEVER shut up about how sweet their players are (Hart, Manningham, etc.) and never fail to rub it in my face when Notre Dame loses (claiming our Navy loss was worse than their App State and Toledo losses). When I said Michael Floyd was already better than Mario Manningham, they laughed. THEY ARE AAAAAAWFUL.

2. Kansas. I have no problems with Kansas.

3. If you think that was bad, you should see the holes in my wall from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and some of the 4th quarter of the SDSU game.

WTF is an alternate team? I honestly cant think of anyone other than the Irish that I root for. Having said that, there are teams from the past that I had respect for. I got to say that I cant recall any of them other than a few Nebraska teams.

Sorry Dude, I'm not a Chameleon. I only know the colors of Notre Dame. I will support Memphis Basketball only because I live here but, no other football team and if Notre Dame was to show up and play Memphis is basketball, I'm wearing Notre Dame colors and screaming Fighting Irish.

Let me put it a better way: If our Irish can't win the national title, what teams, if any, wouldn't you mind taking it all?

my alternate team is any team that by them winning gives ND a better shot at a BCS championship, bowl game, etc. so pretty much whatever team is ranked ahead of ND, i want them to lose, so i root for the teams they are playing against.

Oh, and i like the style of football that Flordia plays. but i wouldnt go as far as to say i like flordia.

and i hate hate hate OSU, michigan, miami, penn st, and especially USC, so whoever they are playing is my team at the time as well.

ND...I do not get the alternate team thing. I root against Ohio State anytime I can because their fans are the most annoying SOB's on the planet and take the term"fair weather fan" to a whole new level. Pick one team F%ck everyone else.

exactly, you people should be ashamed of yourself for even mentioning other teams you root for.

Homie, try dating a girl who goes to the U of M and sitting in the Michigan student section with my green Irish jersey on during the 38-0 beatdown 2 years ago. Can you imagine what I went through? lol seriously, worst moment of my life!!

But ohhhh how sweet it was when the next year my gf and 20 of her friends came to South Bend and they sat in the student section and we gave them a beatdown in the rain!!! hahahah, my voice was gone for days.

I have to say that I root for any Catholic school, which means only ND in football because BC is a P.O.S. school who I will never acknowledge shares the same faith as me. Basically that leaves basketball, where there is definitely more than 1 Catholic school to root for. Georgetown, Gonzaga, Marquette, Villanova, St. John's, Depaul, Saint Mary's, I one day hope for a Final Four of all Catholic schools.

I would trade every loss of the season for my "alternate team" for any one ND win,

but with that said...my local New Mexico Lobos.

No BCS shot here though.

p.s. Anyone who is playing USC.

UCLA in everything but football. I root for all local teams to SoCal except for ND, and my sister and brother are UCLA grads. I wanted to play college soccer but UCLA didn't offer, so i went elsewhere. But I root for UCLA in everything from basketball (of course) to baseball ro friggin' water polo. I follow ND in all sports as well, but not as closely as UCLA. But on the football field, it's ND and ND alone...

I like Kansas State. They are the first team I ever really sat down and watched play a game other than ND.

I am a Minnesota-Duluth fan above all teams, including ND. We already won the D2 football national championship, now it's time for hockey!

When I lived in San Diego, I had a bunch of buddies who were SC grads/roadies... I really like what Pete has done at SC. He's a great coach and his record shows.....

Every Saturday, we had parties at the house and all my SC buddies came over and supported the Irish.....But when ND would play SC....I was out numbered 9 to 1.... I will never get to be there and rub it in their face "when" ND beats the men of Troy....

In football, there is no one close. ND all the way! ASU would be a distant 2nd (wife's alum), and Mizzou 3rd (where I'm from; parents still live there). I do have somewhat of a loyalty to the AF Academy since I'm retired AF and my brother-in-law graduated from there.

In all other sports the 4 teams are fairly interchangeable. I root for them all when they play anybody else and would likely chose the team I think has the best shot to "win it all" when/if they play each other.

Retired A. F. I knew there was something going on there...

Thank you for your service buddy.

ASU? O.K. But Mizzou? You need to show me.

You will.

I only hate USC when ND loses to them. I didn't like the Florida teams very much though. Especially the past Johnson coached teams. I thought Schellenberger was a genius of a coach.

And Hannah Storm is friggin hot. She is a Du Lac grad. (Have TV on while I wait for phone call....)

there is really no other team I 'pull for' other than ND. When ND isnt in the National Title race, it is usually a year by year thing where I may like one team over others. I have always liked certain teams tho, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan (i know, its michigan), Penn State..I like to watch games invloving these teams; Notre Dame Vs. Michigan is my favorite game to watch. There is no doubt with my alliance with ND, but I enjoy watching michigan play.

Teams I dont like no matter what FSU, Miami, USC, BC, Ohio St. I find Ohio St to be very boring, even when ND plays them, I find the game boring. I used to not have my current disdain for USC, I used to like to watch them play too. Key word being 'I used to'.

I very much a big fan of UCLA basketball, I knew a couple ppl that went to UCLA (Tracy Murray) and have always gravitated towards UCLA BB since then.

But nothing is sports, Pro or College, gets me going like ND football, there is truly no comparison in that regard.
