I don't think it's the attention, I think he is genuinely trying to make up his mind. He seems like a very earnest soul...I really like what I have heard so far.
I like our chances now more than before...it's amazing how far Weis has gotten with this kid.

His parents are very sharp, they see the big picture for sure.

agreed... and for that reason I'll be suprised honestly if SC wins him over... but I'd be suprised if we do too... my gut tells me he is all BYU in the end with UCLA being the real darkhorse

Totally agree with your post. The parents are the "X" factor here. Their feelings are going to be a big factor. The Mormon families are very close and rely very much on the parent's influence on the children. Couple that fact with the Samoan culture in regard to the role of the parents and I think we will see Manti rely heavily on his folks for guidance. I think it will come down to ND and BYU in the end.

2 things not to forget:

1. USC gets their linebackers to the pros. That might not matter as much to T'eo because as you say he is so family oriented, but still, he's a competitor, and the pros do matter in the end.

2. USC has (and had) lots of Simoans play football for them. Simoans like to stick together. There are large pockets of Simoan communities here in SoCal.

My completely uneducated guess? 1. USC 2. BYU 3. ND (hope I'm wrong)

Now, I said this in another post earlier on this thread: This guy is an absolute beast. Carroll said he's gone after him as hard as he has ANY recruit in his history at USC. To get him would be a HUGE get.

Also remember that when he does come, he's playing one year, then he's gone for 2. Then he might play another year or 2 and then turn pro (people are saying he's so good he might even turn pro right after his mission. I highly doubt, but it bears mentioning.). Regardless, I'll take 2 years out of this kid, even if they are separated by 2 years, 'cause apparently he's that special...

I thought coaches weren't allowed to talk about recruits... or did he tell Manti and Manti told the media?

No, no, Manti would never say that. He's a humble kid.

I misspoke (or misremembered???); My 'highly placed source' told me that Carroll said that!

Actually, I shouldn't have said what i said above. I'm right next to USC, and i know a lot of people in that athletic office (not high up, but they are there). In fact, one of my student's parents is one of the secretaries of Mike Garrett. Some of what i hear I never repeat because I really have no idea if it's true (I hear more bball stuff than football stuff). Anyways, these people tell me that Carroll has said that about the kid. And from reading what I have read, I believe it. I apologize for the way i worded it...

It's all good, not a big deal. Just wondering 'cause i thought i remembered that was a rule. Keep it up with the good info though.

Just heard that Steve Sarkisian from USC is going to take the head coaching job at Washington. Rivals has Sarkisian as Teo's primary recruiter. I understand that the poodle is very active in this as well (as is Charlie Weis, even though Brian Polian is his primary ND recruiter), but I wonder if this will influence Teo's decision? It can't help the Trojans that his primary USC recruiter is now gone.

Manti also said he disliked the surrounding area of the USC campus which is in the ghetto of LA. I can't believe this isn't a bigger problem with more recruits.

NFL, girls, weather, girls, NFL.

The neighborHOOD around USC is very much da 'hood. It's everything you see on TV and more. Last year a h.s. football stud was walking down the street after school in South Central L.A., was asked where he was from and when he responded that he didn't gangbang, he was shot and killed (mistaken identity). It became a national story because he was a stud and a good kid and his dad was a marine, but crap like this happens waaaaaayyyy too much. And it happens around the USC campus a lot more than the national media knows. Just about a month ago my school was on lockdown because a USC student was stabbed and killed after partying all night.

But inside USC, you feel very, very safe. It's like it's own little world. And I give credit to USC's outreach porgrams, which help the community. I get to see the good side of U$C students, and fortunately for society they're not all trust-fund babies and/or frat-pricks (another reason I love ND - no frats). And it's beautiful outside like 80% of the year. And again, the women, my Lord. I can't understate that enough when you're an 18 yr old kid.

I personally wouldn't want my kids going to school there, but I don't blame any player for going there. You have a dynamic head coach whose team is always top 5 and who gets his players to the NFL; you're basically the pro team in town (as huge as L.A.!!!!!), so you're treated like a star (just ask Leinart and Bush); the weather, and the women.

Thank God T'eo doesn't seem to be interested in that stuff, so we have somewhat of a shot...

USC is four or five deep at every position. The Song Girls are 12 deep. And trust me, they don't give 2 s#$&s about admission requirements for Song Girls. Did you hear some of those Song Girls talk after the game? No? Well... me neither wasn't really listening.

By the way, one of the reasons I left LA was because some guy was gunned down by my house. Just a basic gang initiation where you drive by and kill someone random.

I saw and heard ND could "possibly" play Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl. The odds of it happening are very slim due to finals and all that school stuff.. BUT!!! If we were to play in that bowl game, I think Manti would be ours. Being around the team and coaching staff for a week could be a positive..

I agree 100%...I lived in Orange County for 10 years and been to LA many times and that campus is really ghetto...I mean there is graffiti and gangs everwhere around the "Colisium" which is a piece of shit also...I was seriously scared for my life when I was on campus to see ND play..but I do understand why kids wanna go play there too cuz if you're a USC football player than you're GOD with ppl not to mention the women..I've seen it happen!

If you want hot women and the LA scene then you go to UCLA... Don Imus got in trouble for mentioning the type of women that surround USC... I too live within a short drive...

Sorry guys but this is pretty irrelevant. manti is a devote mormon and i wouldnt think he is going to base one of the biggest decisions of his life on how women look.....and believe it or not, Notre Dame has beautiful women too, and they arent ditzy as hell either. really glad to see we got the bowl game in teo's backyard. Hope we put on a show for him.

You're right about Manti. I wasn't talking about him, in fact I said that he probably wouldn't be affected by that stuff, but I was talking about most recruits in general.

As for South Bend women vs. L.A. women, sorry, physically speaking there is no comparison. ND has some hotties for sure, but the depth and overall quality pales in comparison to USC and UCLA (of course $C and UCLA are much larger schools). It's really no contest. However, as far as the overall woman, the complete package, a woman you can take home to mom and pops, well as you said, that tilts WAY in favor of ND women. It is 100 times harder to find a good lady out here than it is in the midwest. I was lucky enough to find me an ND grad, born and raised in South Bend but doing volunteer work in Los Angeles, and we're getting married next year. Couldn't find anyone NEAR her quality out here. Props to SoCal, ACamp and Go Irish for finding good women down here - they're a rare breed.

P.S...Of course, in college I wasn't looking for a wife, and neither are most of these athletes, that was my point. Peace...

P.S II... Getting back on topic.....Come to ND Manti!!!!!

First, my quotes was more towards USC and not so much along the lines of M.T.s recruitment...

Second, my gal is an army brat who grew up in Okinawa so even though we met here I totally agree, good women are hard to find in cali...

third, I grew up with a ton of devoted Mormon and the little bit of trouble I did get into always came from them... lol.... just sayin

Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu ND vs Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl. ND wake up the echos baby!!!

Ok now on to TEO. Manti and his Punahou team won the state championship this past friday night. Manti had a good game with about 10 tackles. He is just so much bigger then the rest of his team.....

If you all want more info on Teo and the upcoming Hawaii Bowl opponent Hawaii Warriors check out this website: www.hawaiisports.com

Ha. My thoughts exactly bro..I grew up in Orange County and all of those women are hotttt but not relationship or bring home to your parents material...I mean there is some but not many...Cali ppl play the field til their 30..at least! Out here in the midwest is the complete oppisite as girls wanna get knocked up and say I love you after 2 weeks with them...No joke I've been out with more than 1 girl out here that she said I love you after 2 weeks!! I freaked out...its just 2 diff worlds...Anyways, with that said, I don't think women have any significance on Teo's decision...

I used to fly back home to Orange County from Indiana and I would just be mesmerized by how many gorgeous women were everywhere. I was convinced the best looking girl at my school would be hard pressed to get a date in So Cal. Just to much emphasis on the looks out here and too much competition. I got lucky and found someone with brains and substance and a culinary gift to boot!

Back to the thread about Manti -

I hope this kid makes the right choice and I really think he is leaning towards ND and BYU. With what I've read, between his mormon faith and his strong Samoan belief about family, those two places seem like the best fit. SC and UCLA and LA in general, are really shallow, and, if you will, God-less looking places. I could be wrong. I don't know him, his family, or what he truly believes, but it is just something I have concluded from what I have read.

NDinLA - how 'bout the weather today?!? Pretty nice down here!

Yes he is. We would be in great shape with his commitment, I think he could start a possible chain reaction of some recruits if decided to go with the Irish, our bowl at his place should help.

Manti's committment would be huge in more ways than one...It would all but guarentee us at LEAST a top 10 class prob top 5...Also I don't think anybody would jump ship with Teo' coming aboard...Lets just hope none of our great recruiters leave (Brown, Ianello, Polian). I think Latina goes and maybe Oliver...Wouldn't hurt us too much except it kinda concerned me that Latina recruited all of the NJ prospects along with Banks. Though I think with CW ties there, we will be alright.
