I think it's more making sure the language does not fuck us as much as possible. Like the situation where we would've gotten screwed would've been forcing our hand to join a power conference now and hopefully at minimum that is not included in any bill.

As long as we can still spend money + they start limiting transfer madness the legislation is probably a wash for ND.

I'm ok with reasonable caps on football directly from the institutions. I have yet to hear any good reason why NIL from third parties, even if organized by the institution, should be capped.

Outside of the old school admiration of wanting to pretend we play an independent schedule, how would joining the Big Ten screw us? We'd have a better schedule (better in my opinion, as I despise the schedule we play, especially this year) and I'm pretty sure ND would make more money and have support for their olympic sports.

I'm not looking to debate feelings over indepedence or conference. Just want to know outside of identity feelings, what is the actual screw job of joining a conference.

I think the ability to steer your own ship is really the beginning and the end of the major benefits. It doesn't affect the football fan's day to day, but it does matter that ND's AD is on these calls for the legislative future of college athletics. If OSU has a difference of opinion with the rest of the B1G, it's essentially not represented.

NIL shouldn't have a cap, but they absolutely should have to prove that the deals for the name, image and likeness actually involve using their name, image and likeness. Otherwise, it's like professional teams getting around the salary cap by giving their players off season jobs with companies they are linked to.

What's the ROI there though? Like those sports could easily spend more if there were alumni interested in funding them. But donors don't give a shit.

I am with you.. I used to be pro-indy no matter what, but our schedules are becoming crap. We have big games coming up, but the SEC I believe will back out. Texas is whining, and Florida I will be shocked if they make the trip. I know this is a sacrilegious viewpoint but it is to that point imo.

The whole 5-6 ACC games a year is killing us. The Stanford game is crap, I hate that game.

Preach! I think we either need the 24 team playoff or join the Big Ten to prevent our schedule from becoming like the trash they are this year, permanently.

I think what will help is NBC pushing for either more elite home games or join a conference.

Notre Dame has dominated the ACC. Especially under Freeman. The ACC doesn't like it and it really isn't anything that is going to be impressive nationally.

Something has to be done and they need to stay ahead of the game. Proactive, not reactive, to the next wave. Whatever and whenever that is.
