Yep. The county and AH taxing bodies have zero incentive to negotiate with them at this point. The Bears bought that land at that price with the view it was a blank slate for the project, so they can pay that rate as unimproved land. And have fun selling it now that everyone who might be interested knows you want out.
Tax payer funded stadiums is actually something, hold your breath, that Americans can agree upon. People don't want them. See Kansas City as a recent example. My aunt and uncle in Valpo don't want this. My aunt and uncle in Palatine don't want to pay for it either. They don't vote the same.
Jerry Reinsdorf went to the state because he wanted a new stadium. He got a real sweet deal at the stroke of midnight from Big Jim Thompson (R) to get the current one he occupies built back in the day. Threatened to go to Tampa and all that horseshit. Not this time. The Ricketts Family paid for the Wrigley upgrades. The Chicago Fire are getting a new stadium (where Jerry wanted his) without tax payer money.
Zero apologies here: Fuck the Bears. Bought land where a racetrack used to be in the suburbs with zero plan. Lay in the bed you made.
