Jarrard needed to be a 4 year starter playing 2 in one of the highest classification of HS football in the country to get a 4th star is maybe being a bit generous in defense of the standards of recruiting services

They dropped him solely because of JT Daniels syndrome, nothing more.
Nothing about his film said 5 star tbh. I think Teddy has a lot of tools, but his film isn’t great. Last year was the only year at that higher classification

so much of what makes a great college QB or even a great Pro QB is between the ears

People fall in love with the big arm and big body and forget that Tom Brady did not have either; was CERTAINLY not terribly athletic.
Joe Montana was an excellent athlete but not a big arm and not that big otherwise
seeing how the kid does against better competition this year will tell the tale as much as possible in High School
still a long road to go
all scouting services have their built in biases; I mean look at all the Pro QB busts with teams using high draft picks on players that are physically great but questionable mentally

And coaching/scheme. The fit can be disastrous or prosperous

yeah, that to. And of course how much talent he has around him
Lots of Bama QBs looked better then they were because of all the talent around them

BUT we only want a guy that can get us a ring or two; so doing that is what is important. The vast majority of NC QBs never do shit in the pros
super Joe is the only one we had that was great in the pros; all the rest were meh at best. Huarte, Hanratty, Clements, Rice. Now before that there was Johnny Lujack who did make it all pro once.
Paul Hornung was not a QB in the pros though he is in the HOF

Well, Champ Monds is still in high school so literally no one knows what is between his ears. So all there is to drool over is the measurables and tape.
not true. You can find out a lot if you try. In some ways, I think its easier in high school then in college. You can talk to his teachers to begin with.

They do a ton of shit with them on the visits to see how they are on the board, how they engage with prospects, etc. One reason Gino went after Teddy was because of whiteboard. Not necessarily QB, but some prospects have been dropped bc they didn’t gel with current players

88 on 247. lol. I don’t see how you can watch his freshman / sophomore tape and not give him atleast a low 4 star.

Hopefully he gets to play in one of the all star games to prove himself.
Let him fly under the radar. Our little secret....

It is ridiculous though lol

It's whatever. Keeps him off others' radar and price tag low, and doesn't scare off 2028 guys.

"Last year we took a 3 star project bum for the poors, come to ND and be great".

I think he'll keep rising with a strong fall. He was basically injured all season last year; not much recruiting services have to go on at the moment.

He doesn't camp so he was never going to rise. But an idiot cant watch film and see he is a dude. Not worried whatsoever. I think he is the best qb we have signed since Carr (maybe better but tbd)

Odd thing is they had him as the #1 QB in his class without going to camps, guess they pick and choose when that matters.

If he didn't go to camps then he must have been rated the #1 QB in 28 based off his film. So maybe it is complicated or just stupid lol
They definitely want more film...im not impressed

He reclassed, doesn't do camps or on a 7v7 team. So not only is he not being seen in the off-season, he's also not playing their game so that is another reason he not going to see a high ranking. He will force their hand if he plays the way we think he will this season.

He's still going to end up in the top 75 based off his play this season (barring injury) but not in the top 25 where he belongs just because he won't let them evaluate him at a camp.

Yea, it's one of those modern era things, now I'm starting to deal with camps with my son. He had an UA Elite Camp and the funny thing is one kid on my nephews team was there and ran a 4.33 and is now ranked as a top 200 player and he hasn't played a regular season snap on Varsity! 2 years he has played on JV and he's a top 200 player? Go figure.

Oh dear.

We had D1 decathlon All American on my football team in high school. Dude sucked at any and all sports involving a ball. Funny how track and legit athleticism doesn't really mean a ton if you suck at the game

LMAO, damn! That's actually not to surprising because it's totally different skills and the only thing that would correlate is the fast twitch muscles. They say a decathlete is usually someone who is good at many events but a master of none so to speak. What position did he play WR?

Mediocre corner and the dude couldn't get off the bench on the basketball team. Hard worker too.

Yes master of nothing! Useless guy.

He reclassed, he doesn't camp or 7v7, and he was hurt most last year. He has basically played one season of high school football, as a freshman.
It's not just that he isn't playing their game; he really hasn't played much at all. Which is fine. His tools are absurd. But recruits, especially QBs, shouldn't be ranked purely on physical tools.
Either way, he plays big-time Florida football and like you said if he does what he's capable of this season he'll wind up ranked just fine.

Yeah, 247’s 88 rating is egregious but if he performs like he can in the fall then they’ll have no choice but to bump him again.

Personally, I think he can be the best ND QB prospect since Clausen (yes ahead of Carr). People’s only hesitation with him is the lack of snaps. A shame we’re so rankings focused that people cant appreciate the obvious elite talent.

His talent is undeniable. His Freshman and limited Sophmore film is so good, he’d be a high four star with an expectation of five stars if that was Junior film.

It should be better that he did that so young, but because he’s only seen limited snaps and reclassified, his ranking doesn’t reflect the obvious talent.

He’s kind of the ultimate test case for total number of snaps. If he doesn’t develop, he’ll be who ND coaches point to as the argument for staying in school.

The camp stuff even goes back 30+ years. We had a kid on my high school basketball team that was ranked in the Top 100 of some ranking. He a 6'8" slow kid who averaged 2pt and 2rebounds a game. I was 5'10" and a year younger at the time and averaged much more than that.

Seems these recruitniks still haven't learned their lesson quite yet about laser rocket arms, feet like a ballerina but brains of a caveman.
