Sorry guys...More busy today. I'll be at work tomorrow at my computer and hopefully rested to devote the attention I need to not sound ridiculous

If there's anything specific you want me to attest to let me know I'll do my best to remember. I got my notes but I'm no professional either

- I’m curious about the 4 wide receiver sets (personnel) and the DL rotation. Much appreciated when you have time

Who is running with the second string OLine and at what positions? Does anyone of them ever move up to first team snaps?

My understanding is was the following:

LT: Styles Prescod
LG: Chris Terek
C: Cam Herron
RG: Peter Jones
RT: Matty Augustine

It was very early spring when I heard that though, so I'm not sure if any of the other young guys have stepped up and passed someone.

@arrowryan told him its not worth posting a practice report. You'll wake up the next morning with Prister, BD, Horka, and six anonymous accounts explaining to you that you're a liar, you've never watched a football game in your life, your mother should be ashamed, and you personally caused the 2008 financial crisis. They'll have him questioning his own name before Tuesday.

I hear Arrow is still having to live off the grid after fall camp for fear that his location will be exposed.

IE was on top of the world that day! Hopefully I have another opportunity again this year.

Thinking back to that day, I should’ve said something about the offense’s struggles in goal line. They STUNK. It definitely showed at certain points in the season.

Would it be correct to say that Matty Augustine would be first guard / tackle off the bench

Alright, sorry about the delay guys and I appreciate the patience.

Quickly before I get into the 3 phases and positions I will say overall I was super impressed with the pace of practice. With about 2 and a half hours of on field work it was incredible how this program operates. It really is a fine tuned machine. There is not one single wasted minute or staff member on the field. MFMF has this operating absolutely flawlessly. Another thing I was giddy about was how hard the players were being coached by veteran staff members and the new members of the staff. They are not getting away with doing things wrong, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Coach Ash is on their ass and I can tell the expectations that the staff has for the program are just as high as outsiders perspective. I'll touch on this more later if anyone wants me to.

Offense:
Overall, offensively I would give a grade of a B/B+ from what I saw.

OL:
The strength of the unit is by far the OL. The first unit looked to be functioning very fluidly and on the same page. It's hard to gauge pass pro with the QB's being in red, but I thought they looked to protect very well. I saw a pretty clean pocket and didn't seem to be confused on the stunts that they were being attacked with. I'd venture to guess with a veteran group that being half way thru spring they've seen the stunts and blitzes a time or two. Before anyone freaks out and thinks that means the DL sucks, keep in mind that the 1's were going up against the 2's most of practice in the team competition. During RZ periods I thought the OL really wore down the defense up front. I thought they did well controlling the point of attack and gave our RB's a chance to be patient and wait for a gap to open up. I was curious to see how Will Black looked and I may have too high of expectations for him physically. I walked away thinking yep, he's still a freshman, just based on how he looked, but then looking at the roster I was shocked seeing that he was listed at 315. He honestly has an incredible frame. Just led me to be more impressed with how large of a human that Joe Alt is after seeing him up close. Overall, it's no surprise, I think we're going to be totally ok up front, especially with the schedule setting us up well the first few weeks.

RB:
The 3 backs I saw getting reps were Ayenus Williams, Nolan James, and Jonaz Walton. Hard to say there's a star among them with Williams being in a red jersey, but they were as a unit good not great. James lower half is incredible and he runs with very good patience and I liked how he ran on the GL. He gets his pad level low and sees a hole and bursts. Williams is still super overall consistent and looks physically better and better, hopefully he can just stay healthy. Walton had the best run of the day during RZ, bursting thru on the 1's for about 15-18 yard gain to the 1 yard line. However, they didn't even score after a penalty and two incomplete passes. Overall, I'll say that I need to just accept we will probably have a committee of 3 guys that will be looked at to fill this position, it's just a matter of who is it going to be? With a few guys missing spring and reps, you have to give the early edge to the guys practicing. I'm not in panic mode we are going to be ok at RB, we were obviously very spoiled the last 4-5 years from Kyren to J-Love/Price.

WR:
I'll be honest I didn't get a great look at this unit. I was taking advantage of my opportunity more to watch the defense and try to learn something for myself to use. What I did see was very consistent with what we've seen. Faison is very good and reliable and CJ has a great rapport with him. I also saw them looking to get Mylan Graham the ball and looked like he was comfortable in the offense. I didn't see him make an eye popping play, but he did bully the shit out of Christian Gray one time blocking in the run game. He also got chippy one time with Tae after a play towards the end of practice. The 1's seemed to be the same group advertised by the media. 2's IIRC ran either Burress (17) or Fitzgerald (11). Fitzgerald made the best catch of the day on the sideline on a go ball. I thought he looked physically acceptable for an incoming freshman. The slot in the 2's group was Frazier (4), who made a catch during the last team session and physically reminded me of how Avery Davis looked his Sr year. Again, not in panic mode, but I will say at best the group was average. However, we'll get to defense, but they are going against possibly a top 5 DB room in the entire country so it is easy to not look flashy.

TE:
Same as WR in regards to getting a good look at the position. Flanagan/Washington looked to be running with the 1's and Larsen with the 2's. Larsen made the best catch of the day for the group on corner route along the sideline. I really would've loved to see Premer with the group to see how he stacks up. I can see them being more involved, however, with the offense looking to do more in under center play action/boot concepts.

QB:
Good to know who our guy is going to be and what we can expect out of him. CJ is night and day in terms of confidence and on-field leadership. Knowing you're the guy has to alleviate his stress and allow him to play even more free. I'm not a QB guru so take it for whatever it's worth, but despite not being a giant physically, I've never seen a football spin the way it does when he throws it. He is probably the most naturally gifted thrower of the football I've ever seen in person. Everyone needs to do me a favor and say prayers every night thought to keep him healthy. Without shitting the bed one thing I will say is I will be very worried should he go down. Compared to last year, with Minchey, even if something happened to CJ I had confidence we had a very good option in Kenny to come in and we can still win games until he got healthy. Only one practice I know, and our defense is very good, especially going against the 1's, but neither backup looked phenomenal to me. Herbert will require a totally different gameplan. Not to scare anybody, but I got Andrew Hendrix vibes with him. He does run effectively, but throwing the ball was scary. Grubbs needs has work to do mechanically. Very long delivery and arm strength suspect. I do think the offense lends itself more to be the same with Grubbs in compared to Herbert. Should Herbert be in they will need to run the ball with QB more, which would fit his skill set. This early I'd give the edge to Herbert based on experience, but Grubbs could be in the lead to based on he his very obviously more of a threat throwing the ball.

Sorry again for the long message, I'll break defense and special teams/misc up into separate messages if you are bored with my word vomit.

Defense:
Overall, I cannot state the change since MFMF first year in regards to the depth we have at every level. Obviously, we have stars at each position, but we also elite depth to backup any position should we lose a spot to injury/fatigue. I really need to dial down my expectations here b/c I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but wow this defense can really be so good.

DL:
The change in the body type on the DL is fantastic from year 1 to now. The trenches are definitely on par with all the big time programs now. I couldn't say that 3-4 years ago. DT was obviously missing the two guys that I believe will be starting (Onye and Brewu). Gray and Mukam ran with the ones and rotators were Hughes/Dixon and Golden/Sevillano and maybe Hola? There should be no reason that this group gets worn down the way they were in the RZ, but that could be a testimant to how good the first group OL is. I didn't get to see them an INDY as much as I'd like to see Partridge work with them, but they looked like they were working a great deal on hands and hip flips on pass rush. DE ran Young/Traore and I believe Reiff/Dunham with the twos. I didn't get to see 1 on 1's so sorry I can't attest to them in pass rush too much since there wasn't a ton of team drive the field scenarios with drop back passing. I'll be honest I am very excited about what Dunham can be. I got an up close look at him and with his jersey number (44), I'm prolly showing my age, but he looks just like what Grant Irons used to in the early 2000s. If it clicks he can be outstanding.

LB:
LB is a wild card here. Experience is there, but not healthy. Drayk is one of my favorite players. He is so engaged and you can tell he isn't confused by anything. If he wants to be a coach one day I wouldn't be surprised. Ausberry and Sneed ran with the ones. Sneed also got work in pass rush drills during 1 on 1's while other LB's stayed to cover RB/TE. He then switched to get a few 1 on 1 reps. Kyngston wasn't dressed obviously, but during team reps would be in the back mirroring the formations and walking himself thru the movement and checks, like they did a few springs ago with Riley Leonard when he had a foot injury. Drayk and Kyngston change this unit so much so they gotta get healthy. Powlus and the younger Kia got some run with the twos. I was actually very impressed with Thomas Davis Jr early on. Obviously he's a freshman physically so, he'll benefit from a college weight room and nutrition program, but football instincts are very good. I can't think of an early comp for him, but I'll be shocked if he's not in the mix to play next year at the position. He's a natural LB (shocking I know)

DB:
By far from what I saw the most competitive room on the entire roster. The most fun I had was watching the 1's unit cheer on and coach up the 2's, who were going up against the 1 offense during RZ. They are the group that you can tell brings all the juice. Moore is.............WOW. Holy cow he was impossible to throw a fade on in the RZ. You have to throw it thru a key hole and that barely gives you a chance. Adon Shuler/Talich/Johnson might be my favorite players on the team. Shuler is a captain there is no doubt. He is so positive with all of his teammates Defense or offense. The ball is a magnet to Talich, it just finds him. He had a pick 6 during team period again. Tae is also just so good, I'm not gonna bore anybody with much more LOL, it's nothing we don't already know. Joey O'Brien is going to be ready very soon and yeah, we do not need to worry about losing Blair, they knew we had something here. He looks very intelligent for the position and I'm starting to think that is why Ethan Long jumped Blair too. He's very instinctive and understands the game so well. Backup corner Chaz Smith made a very nice play in run support during team periods as well. Really hope that the unit continues to be coached up like they were with Mickens. at Nickel Christian Gray didn't stand out to me, other than getting bullied in the run game, but obviously no news is good news here.

If there's anything I missed or you want info on, ask and I'll try to answer if I can.

Special Teams/Misc:

Spencer is the guy in the kicking game. I don't remember seeing him miss a field goal (not saying he didn't). Unfortunately, in RZ, offense was held to a field goal attempt in Schmidt missed a 25 yard field goal and immediately gave me PTSD. Sorry kickers, I am not patient LOL.

Recruits I got a good look at were the younger Jones, Wiggins, Tuihalamaka, Brown, and Von Brandt.

Again, if I missed something ask and I'll try to give insight.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

No italics—what about Porath and specialists? That’s my biggest concern going into the season.

I think that backing up Black "theoretically" with Prescod makes sense at this moment.
...This is because I'm guessing that Rudolph believes:
A.) Augustine can back up both tackles as a #1;
B.) whoever Jagusah displaces when he gets back in, will be able to back tackle up also;
C.) If Jagusah can't take over for some reason, he can back up all over.
Therefore, putting a relatively unimpressive (so far) tackle behind Black is more of a place-holder.
It also should keep Prescod "involved" in case he has more to grow.

I had this exact same feeling about the secondary last August when watching them. I legit thought there was a 0% chance they’d get thrown on all season. Then they showed their ass against Miami and A&M.

Great stuff. WR is what I'm most interested in because there are lots of hype/uncertainty with the guys besides Faison. If they end up being bad then the team is kinda cooked. If they end up being elite then the team is probably hoisting a trophy at the end of the year.

I wish that people would quit deprecating our secondary for the start vs Miami. They did not "show their ass."

No one could have been prepared for Toney. He was a freshman in his first game. Toney ranked FIRST in all the NCAA in receptions (NOT JUST FRESHMEN) and Fifth in total yards from receptions. He had 40% of their yards against us. As to the QB, he only was held to less than our 205 twice in the regular season by teams who had seen a lot of that offense by then. Two of the best defenses (A&M and OSU) choked them in the playoffs, but they won anyway, and then they had more passing yards in the next two games than we gave. Had it been us at that time, we'd have killed them.

I guess I view it differently. The secondary did not play well against Miami. I watched, in Notre Dane Stadium, the secondary get pantsed by a very average A&M QB. A&M receivers were running wide open everywhere.

A lot, if now all, of the secondary issues were coaching and/or poor usage of personnel.

Agreed and I wish I was able to get a better look. The overall experience I had was better for me personally getting a closer look at certain aspects/positions, but I'll admit I wasn't able to see the overall product as well, which I'm not mad about either LOL

Grubbs needs has work to do mechanically. Very long delivery and arm strength suspect
Interesting to hear. I believe that guys at II have been raving about his "Zip" on the ball. They were quite impressed and mentioned it a few times. That being said, they also agreed, he has a lot to work on.

Nice job providing Wisconsin a scouting report!

I kid, nice breakdown. Good to hear that the OL is preforming well. There were a few Miami fans on Twitter/X that think our OL sucks.
