Like the idea of taking Fox now - again with the expanded scholarship limits there is no downside. Allows you to chase the higher guys on the board without nearly as much risk.

Between Indiana and Illinois there are some high end upside players in this cycle that could provide some quality class depth. Not your typical 3 star project types either. I'm talking quality athletes, with excellent measurables and quality Big 10 and SEC offers, that project to be FBS starters. It's a bit of a banner cycle in those two states this year in that sense. ND can't take them all and won't win them all, but there are aome really intriguing guys:

Ifeany Emedobi (Northrop, Fort Wayne, IN)
Sean Fox (Warren Central, Indianapolis, IN)
Jayce Brewer (Franklin Central, Indianapolis, IN)
Chris Wilson (Yorktown, Muncie, IN)
Caleb Johnson (Noblesville, Noblesville, IN)
Kaleb Elkins (Warren Central, Indianapolis, IN)
Quentin Burrell (Mount Carmel, Chicago, IL)
Brock Williams (Libertyville, Libertyville, IL)
Justin Johnson (Evanston Township, Evanston, IL)
Raheem Floyd (East St. Louis, East St. Louis, IL)
Tavares Harrington (Mount Carmel, Chicago, IL)
Keysan Taylor (Guilford, Rockford, IL)

That group doesn't even include the usual suspects we usually talk about...
Guys like:

David Folorunsho (St. Patrick, Chicago, IL)
Brayden Parks (Brother Rice, Chicago, IL)
Cameron Wagner (Saint Joseph, IL)
Monshun Sales (Lawrence North, Indianapolis, IN)

It also doesn't include the 3 Illinois QBs ranked in the top 100...

Jake Nawrot (John Hersey, prospect Heights, IL)
Israel Adams (Montini Catholic, Lombard, IL)
Trae Taylor (Carmel Carholic, Lake in the Hills, IL)

You could genuinely take half a class from Indiana and Illinois alone in 2027 and set the foundation for a top 7-8 class nationally. Personally, I'd have no problrm taking...

WR: Monshun Sales
WR: Quenton Burrell
TE: Brock Williams
OL: Caleb Johnson
OL: Cameron Wagner
DT: David Folorunsho
DT: Brayden Parks
Edge: Ifeanyi Emedobi
Edge: Sean Fox
CB: Justin Johnson
S: Tavares Harrington

I watched Fox film today. He is a take to me. Ideal a 3rd lb but he is a poor mans Sonny Styles.

Indiana and Illinois look promising in 28 too. Give me the two Illinois DEs and whew we cooking

At least one of Prescott or McGee seem like a must. If ND can land both it would be an obvious huge win. There are a few other 2028 edge rushers I'm highly interested in as well. ND is in a great place moving forward.

Vaugh and Toomey. Toomey is like 20 minutes away from me and I may have to go check him out. Same high school as ND alum Anthony Weaver. Saratoga is one of the best summer towns in the U.S.

i wonder how Northwestern figures into all this midwest recruiting and even more so the Chicago area recruiting when they open that shiny new stadium on campus this fall that looks really impressive from video images on youtube

Vaughn, Toomey and Parkinson are definitely at the top of my list not named McGee or Prescott. I also think a guy like Tahj Gray from St. Joseph's Regional might ultimately grow into an edge rusher. I'd hope ND is in on him!

Is Sean Fox an edge or linebacker?
Yes.

He's a guy that you take and see how his body develops. I think that he ultimately ends up as a sub package edge rusher, however, if he can use his length to defend zones he might be a sub package linebacker on pass downs as well.

He was offered by Jean-Mary, so it appears at least in the short-term, he's viewed as a LB.

There are so many body types that are playable in a 2 linebacker nickel base defense. You can stay in the same base set and exchange almost all of your front seven personnel on high percentage pass downs. ND also wants to play more zone defense under Chris Ash, so there is always room for long linebackers that can get their limbs in the hook / curl zone, or carry TE up the seem.

I can see him as a LB, overhang, and a great LB who is a pass rusher on sub packages

Definitely a "hang" defender. I don't really care what position he plays as long as he's playing on the edge of the defense where his length is a huge plus. Tons of room in the modern game for hybrid skill sets if you have length and can run vertically and move laterally.

And can take more "role" players with expanded rosters

He could end up like that 6'6" STUD at LB from U$C, I think his name was Gentry. I can see him growing into a 6'5½" 240lb body type like Styles as well.

Gentry is an awful football player
He looked good an much better at Arizona St before the concussion problems...He was All Conf and a FR AA. U$C really didn't use him best because he played more inside instead of on the edge but he did cause 5-6 fumbles.

ND Michigan Indiana and Arizona St all likely to get OVs, looking like ND/Michigan battle.

I could be reading this recruitment wrong, but I just don't think ND is pushing particularly hard for a commitment here. They've been recruiting him for a long time and I think it's smart to continue to do so in case few things don't go ND's way with their board, but I'd be surprised if both Cooper and Burrell were takes right now.

some podcasters are raving about Cooper but i'm not a good film evaluator so i don't know how good he really is or isn't

I don't think the difference between Cooper and Burrell is substantial, but Cooper attacks the ball better in the air and is an excellent "high pointer" and the general consensus is that he's going to be half a step faster at the next level.

I can't find the article. But there was a freebie on blue and gold interviewing him prior to the visit. He doesn't seem like a bad kid but kind of hinted that depth chart is something he is concerned about. He would have an uphill battle to earning immediate playing time given our current roster.

I would definitely take the Arizona State ov for non football reasons
Tucson food is Dante Moore thread worthy.

I hope we land Quentin. He seems like a guy that doesn’t need a ton of development in order to see the field. In the transfer portal era you never know how soon you might need a guy like that.
